MARDI GRAS AT MARIAN CENTRAL SCHOOL FEB. 27 The Student Council of Marian Central is sponsoring the annual Mardi Gras on Saturday, Feb. 27. All Marian students, their families and friends are invited to this gala event which opens at 4 p.m.. and ends at 11 p.m. Most of the clubs are participating in this event by presenting one or two booths. These range from a Spook House to a Pizza Booth. All the clubs are unofficially competing to make more money than any of the previous years. A sock-hop from 8 to 11 will conclude the festivities. READ THE CLASSIFIEDS MISSIONARIES GIVE/TALKS IN CHURCH MARCH 4-7 The Chain O'Lakes Evangelical Covenant Church will be sharing the Chicagoland Missionary Conference on March 4 and 7. The Rev. Chester Larson and Miss Elsie Carlson, both missionaries to Congo, will visit the congregation here. On Thursday, March 4, Rev. Chester Larson will speak and show slides of his work in the Republic of Congo. The regular church family fellowship supper will precede his message. Rev. Larson and his wife have been missionaries in Congo since 1951. He has served as preacher and teacher concerned with the work of evangelism among the villages. He alsb located in another area of the Congo during his second, term and Gospel was carried to areas where it had never been before. During his third term on the Congo field he was legal representative for the mission. This involved acting as the official representative for the mission in relation to the government of Congo. Because of his position and location in Gemena, Rev. Larson has had many opportunities to counsel with the national president of the Church of Christ of the Ubangi and with many other Congo leaders. He also taught religion in the government secoftdary school in Gemena. On Sunday, March 7, at the 11 a.m. worship service, Miss Elsie Carlson will speak. She was first sent to Congo in 1952. She has served as a nurse in the hospital operated in Karawa, Congo. She was in charge of dispensary for a/?ftyie, treating over 9,000 patients, and served as a nurse to over 200 lepers. Large Crowd At Deanery Meet Ninety-five women from Catholic parishes in McHenry county attended the open deanery meeting held in St. Mary's auditorium, McHenry, on Thursday ni^C'Feb. 18. Rev. Eugene Baumhofer, host pastor, introduced the guest speaker James Wiebler, noted Catholic layman, a member of the Liturgical Commission for ROckfdrd Diocese and a professor at Loyola University. His talk was most interesting and there was an open discussion. The evening will be headlined with a talk by screen and television star Ronald Reagan. Joining Mr. Reagan on the platform will be State Treasurer William J. Scott. Mr. Reagan, a native son of northwest Illinois, holds an AB degree from Eureka College (Illinois). He was a sports announcer at radio station WHO. Mrs. Reagan is the former Nancy Davis, daughter of Dr. and M Loyal Davis of Chicago.
