Yvonne's birthday actually only comes once every four years since the date is Feb. 29, but her celebration is always on the 28th. Her mother and sister, Lily, enjoyed celebrating with her at the dinner. Many happy returns. Kiwanis Club Meeting Being the last meeting of the month Feb. 22, President Robison turned this into a business meeting. Fred Gutzmacher" gave a report on the meeting held at the Barnard Mill Community Center. Their new officers for this year will be headed by Andrew Thomson of Wonder Lake. Their biggest need is more adult aid to act as sponsors for some of the youth activities. Jim Rob- Ison reported on the dinner dance given by the Woqdstock Moose for the benefit of the McHenry County Retarded Children's group. The ...Moose should be commended for this fine undertaking. Bob Howe reported on plans-for Past Presidents' night. James Ross of Kiwanis International will be the sj>eaker for the evening. Next week Art Lau will sp^ik on sup^ port of churches. Coming Programs March 8-^-Bill C^isty will present the McHenry high school building program. March 15-- Art Lau on "Green Candle" and March 22--Official visit of Lt. Governor Jess Mudgett. A short directors' meeting was held after the regular meeting. Joe Sullivan and Bill Cristy were appointed to audit Treasurer White's books. Dick Pickrum's wife will get the Battle Ax letter. Doesn't pay to miss Dick. Court Of Awards For Cadette Troop Cadette Girl Scouts of Troop 495 held their Court of Awards at Harrison School last Thursday evening. It: began with Scouts Own based on the Girl Scout Promise. ' * The following took part in the ceremony, Lynn Coburn, Joyce Setzler, Joyce Young, and Julie Wasielewski. Mary Oonk was invested into the Troop. Five year pins were awarded to the following; Diane Christopher, Penny Reynolds, Lynn Wines, Sue Smith, Fran Wasielewski, Sue Coburn, Chris Henzef, Jeanne McMillan, Kathy Walker and Penny Ducey.- The Social Dependability Challenge was awarded to Leslie Harris, Joanne Rink, Joyce Setzler, Lynn Coburn, and Julie Wasielewski, The Good Grooming Badge was earned by Penny Reynolds, Lynn Wines, Joyce Young, Diane «Christopher, Kathy Walker, Penny Ducey, Sue Coburn, Joyce Setzler, Fran Wasielewski Pat Hendricks, Lynn Coburn, Jeanne McMillan, and Mary Oonk. The Clerk Badge was earned by Penny Reynolds, Diane Christopher, Penny Ducey, Mary Oonk, Lynn Wines, Kathy Walker, Lynn Coburn, Jeanne McMillan, Sue Coburn, Fran Wasielewski, Joyce Young, and Joyce Setzler. The Family Camper badge was rewarded to Penny Ducey following the family trip to Florida. The meeting closed with the flag ceremony and a Scout Song. Marilyn Coburn and Dolores McMillan are the co-leaders of this fine Cadette Troop. Harrison School PTA News "Who Helps Your Neighbor's Child?" is the topic to be discussed- by Eugene Maxwell at the Harrison PTA meeting, Tuesday, March 9. Mr. Maxwell is well-known for his work with youth in the area. At present he is English teacher and Counsel and Director "tof Vocational Education of Woodstock high school. The Harrison school board election is April 10 and the April 6 ETA meeting instead of candidates will be guests at the the March meeting as previously announced. The PTA meeting was changed to the first Tuesday in April as the second Tuesday, is a school holiday. t Amy Street and Gertrude Brickley, membership committee chairmen, will announce the second high membership which they are striving to attain. March 31 is the deadline for all to help them attain 100 percent. Have you sent in your membership? The meeting will be at 8 p.m. in the school. Hostesses, are the fourth grade room representatives with Estelle Wasielewski and Phyllis Ehredt as chairman. Junior Girl Scouts At Winter Camp out The Junior Girl Scouts of Troop 201 braved the cold February weather for a two night camping trip at Hawthorne Hills in Elgin. Sleeping bags on the floor of the lodge provided warm but solid comfort. One meal each day was cooked outdoors. The girls were fulfilling many requirements for several different badges. Skits highlighted the weekend festivities with the girls trying for their Dramatic Badge. Troop Camper requirements predominated the badge work. The whole troop ventured to the camping site on a chartered bus, driven by Carl Kaschub, to whom they extended their sincere thanks. The girls who were present were Marilyn Beverwyk, Roxanne Delfino, Lauri De Werdt, Jenny and Piper Gianola. The girls hope that by the time the date for the next meeting Tolls around on March 30, the weather will be kinder. Watch For Signs Of Spring In 1961. the ice went out of the lake on March 3. In 1964 it started to leave on ,March 9 and was gone by the 13th. Let's hope it makes an early departure this year too. Jim Stendehach On Dean's List It's always a pleasure to hear that a student enjoys his school work and makes grades that are a credit to himself and his parents. Jim (Jay.) Stendehach who attends the University of Corpus Christie in Texas has made the Dean's list. He is also interested in Poiltical Science and was active in the Young Republican ^roup at election time.
