Thartday. March 11. 1965 THE McHENHY PLAINDEALER i irtiii ;^N;fec^r"a IlKiliiili ««w ^ .° °f, many years ago might well be entitled -- on this February day -- -f -Thinking." It was taken at Pistakee Bay in an unidentified year, and portrays a bit of nature. Maybe such a spot could be found today, but with increasing populations it is not easy to locate such quiet,, peaceful scenes today. GUIDELINES FOR REDISTRICTING STATED IN BILL Congressman Robert McClory reports that the Judiciary committee of the U. S. House of Representatives has recommended a bill relating to congressional districts which establishes guidelines for redisricting. The bill permits population variations up to 15 per cent from the average for any of the congressional districts, and will also authorize consideration of official population figures established since the 1960 census. 'This is the first time the Congress has spoken out on redisricting. The guidelines established by the Congress should satisfy constitutional requirements and provide an appropriate answer to court decisions which have suggested Buch congressional expression," declared Congressman McClory. With strong bipartisan support, the U. S. House of Representatives is expected to act favorably on this measure before March 15. The Illinois General Assembly, meeting in Springfield, is required to redistrict the state into new congressional districts at the current session. The House Judiciary committee action provides assurance that the present 12th Congressional district will be retained. This district, comprising Lake, Mc- Henry and Boone counties, has a current population of more than 426,000 or within approximately 2 percent of the average population for all congressional districts in the state. Illinois' twenty-four congressional districts were established by the Illinois General Assembly in 1961. Under the redisricting plan approved at that time, Chicago's Sixth Congressional district--represented by Congressman Daniel Ronan--is 34 per cent below the average size, whereas the West Suburban 10th district--represented by Congressman Harold Collier --is more than 32 per cent above average. Disparities such as these and in at least six other districts would have to be corrected under the bill expected to be passed. Practically every custom or habit, invention or item of clothing, from all ages of antiquity, have been preserved in toys or dolls. In Final ^Rehearsals Rudi J. Photo Larry Ekeroth, standing, and Ami Varese, star of "Bye Bye Birdie" are shown discussing plans for the forthcoming production with Tony Varese, left, and John Licastro, co-chairmen for the McHenry County Republican Central Committee's benefit theatre party. LAKE REGION YMCA OFFERS SPRING PROGRAM On March 27 the Lake Region YMCA will begin a new tenweek quarter of program. Several new activities will be offered for the first time. The new programs include adult golf instruction, a men's Thursday night twilight golf league, a women's interior decorating class, an unusual class in oil painting techniques, a women's daytime golf league, both youth and adult stamp clubs, and a youth ceramics class. Any person desiring a new spring schedule can call the Lake Region YMCA at 459-4455 or write to 65 N. William St., Crystal Lake. FILES SUIT \> A law suit has been filed by Edward Bolda on behalf of his son, James Bolda, a minor, naming James Jones and Thomas Stevens. A jury trial has been requested. The suit results from an auto accident at Lily Lake and Lake Defiance Roads in May of 1964, in which James Bolda is alleged to have suffered severe injuries. ^ BLUEBIRD TRAIL NEW PROJECT OF COUNTY BIRD CLUB The McHenry County Bird Club is currently engaged in a conservation project of state and national interest. *fhe project, under the guidance of Misses Alice and Leta Clark, is a Bluebird Trail, which is simply a series of bluebird houses set up in suitable locations, kept in good condition and free of other tenants, to encourage nesting bluebirds. Those interested in keeping nesting records send them to state headquarters where they are used in compiling further information on the status of this bird. Miss Leta Clark advises all nature lovers that soon the imperiled bluebird^will be returning to this area and the«<placing of more bluebird houses throughout the countryside is important if this bird is to make a comeback. Although not in danger of extinction, the number of bluebirds has greatly declined in recent years until it now numbers approximately 50,000 in Illinois. Bluebird houses should be set out soon after March 1. Boxes should be placed 34 mile apart, in an open area (old cemetery, orchard, pasture with a few trees) not to attract other birds to the box. Fence post or telephone poles, if permission is granted, are ideal. The McHenry County Bird Club has extreme information on Bluebirds and has plans for a good house if anyone is interested in building some. This can be obtained by calling Alice or Leta Clark at 338-1634. REGISTRATION FOR YMCA SUMMER CAMPING ACCEPTED . The Lake Region YMCA is accepting registrations for summer resident camping from interested boys and girls between 8 and 15 years old. Arrangements have been made with four YMCA's who own resident camps, to accept Lake Region YMCA members for summer camping. Camping periods at any of these camps range from ten to fourteen days.
