Sunset Drive, Wonder Lake, is serving aboard the guilded missile frigate USS Leahy, operating out of Charleston, S. C. The Leahy is scheduled to conduct extensive operational tests of the Terrier Guided Missile System in areas ranging from Virginia Capes of the Caribbean and the Gulf of Mexico. As part of the Atlantic Fleet Operational Test and Evaluation Force, the Leahy will test the capability of the missile systenv under all conditions of operation. v. The. tests will last for several months and will involve studies o^. the missile system in a wartime environment against air and surface targets. Polka of 8712 Shady Lane, Wonder Lake, assisted in the landing of the Ninth Marine Expeditionary Brigade at DeNang, Republic of Viet Nam while serving with Battalion Landing Team 2/9, aboard the amphibious assault ship USS Princeton. During the five days of landing operations, the Princeton steamed more than 3,000 miles 'while conducting around-the- - clock operations to land equipment and supplies for the Bri- ! gade. | The Princeton is now enroute ito the British Crown Colony of Hong Kong for liberty after I concluding operations in the ^ South China Sea. Wiede- • mann and his wife have just ' returned from Webb Air Force HOLD SPECIAL EDUCATION MEET FRIDAY, APRIL 2 A county^wide meeting of all special education personnel employed or residing in McHenry county has been set for this Friday, April 2, for the purpose of giving Consideration to the formation of a McHenry county chapter of the Illinois Council for Exceptional Children. McHenry county, through the past years has shown a steady growth of educational facilities For childt^en ih need of special education. The Illinois Council for Exceptional Children is the professional association which has been most responsible for the rapid growth state-wide of special education facilities. This meeting has been arranged by Miss Melaine- Richard, teacher of trainable .mentally handicapped; Robert Lamborne, teacher . of physically handicapped; Neil Greenhill, school psychologist; and Bill D. Dial, speech and hearing therapist. The1 theme for this meeting is "Special Education in the Sixties". Anyone who is in the process of qualifying for a special education position is. most welcome. The meeting will be at 8 p.m. Friday, April 2, at the Timbers, Woodstock. ILLINOIS POVERTY MAPPED Gov. Otto Kerner has released a 391-page study mapping the range and depth of poverty in Illinois. "This demographic analysis," the governor said, "provides the body of fact with which the Illinois Office of Economic Opportunity and our local communities can now seek federal funds for local community action and anti-poverty programs. As such the study constitutes an indispensable first step in coherent plan for conquering poverty in our state." The highest volume of poverty is to be found where the population of the state is concentrated -- especially the Cook county region containing Chicago'and a number of adjoining cities. LOCAL BOARD TAKES PART IN REALTOR WEEK McHehry Board of Realtors will again participate this year in the nrition-wide observance of Realtor Week, May 23 to 29, T. P. Mathews, president, announced this week. Chairman of the committee for local arrangements is Mrs. Jennie McDermott, and other committee members are Messrs. Thomas Bright, U. H. Garrett and Donald Killeen and Mrs. Helen Wonn. The National Association of Real Estate Boards has individual membership „of almost 80,- 000 and is comprised of more than 1,500 boards, such as the local group. A week is designated each year to point up realtor activities and to explain to the public why it is wise to handle all real estate transactions through a realtor, Mr. Mathews said. A realtor, explained Mr. Mathews, is a professional in real estate who subscribes to a strict code of ethics as a member of the local board and of the National Association of Real Estate Boards. In order to qualify for membership* in NAREB, he added, a real estate practitioner must demonstrate his professional ability and be approved by the other members of the local board. RETURN VEREDI^T A verdict in favor of the plaintiff was returned by a petit jury hearing the case of Brian Powers of Wonder Lake against Carl Kiernan, also of Wonder Lake, in Circuit Court before Judge James Cooney. The suit had asked $65,000 of Kiernan, operator of a vehicle owned by Dorothy A. Bruscato.
