The theme of the pack meet; ing was Mexico and Den 1 presented Jimmy McWilliams doing a Mexican hat dance with the toys accompanying him on their hand made instruments. Refreshments were served by Mothers of Den 3, Gail Szamlewski's den. All the boys are cautioned to take good care of their cars and perhaps even do more work on them so that they can be entered in the Pinewood Derby at the See-Do Show in Woodstock on May 15. My thanks to Marge Connell who keeps me posted on all the fine work being done by the Cub Scouts here in. Holiday Hills. By the way I missed giving them credit for the fine tray favors the^ made for McHenry hospital; on St. Patrick's Day. A foin array of leprechauns, hats arid pipes gayly greeted each patient on their tray that day. Both Cub Scouts and their parents are to be commended for the wonderful job being done with, and by the boys, not to mention the tererific job being done by Jack Connell, the den mothers and the committee members. Cancer Crusade It was my pleasure to attend with Vi Abbink the Kick-Off Dinner for the Cancer Crusade to be conducted in the month of April. The dinner was held in Woodstock with all the key workers in the county present. The main speaker for the evening was Dr. Arminger Sommers, a scientist from Abbott Laboratories who told of the work being done in research in the fight against cancer. Vi Abbink is in charge of the entire Nunda rural area, involving many subdivisions. I have taken the Holiday Hills area. Cancer has touched many of our homes and our loved ones. Vi lost ah 18 year old brother, I have lost my husband's mother. Those of us who have lost a loved one know how important it is to find a cure soon, those of you who haven't lost anyone or been touched by it, your money for the crusade this year may insure you against such a loss. In the next week or so I'll be calling on some of you to ask your help in collecting, and others will be calling for your contribution. Won't you all think it over and consider your contribution carefully? We've licked polio, we can do the same with cancer, with your help. Flower and Garden Show For a couple of hours last Friday, it felt just like spring was really here. Elizabeth Patz, Bernice Malstrom, Earline Mettelka and I took a bus, with the McHenry Garden Club, to McCormick Place and saw the breathtakingly beautiful flower and garden show. We came home fired with enthusiasim to start digging, and planting and weedng--weeding???? At this time of year, I'd be happy to trade my snow shovel for a lawn mov^er, a spade and hoe. I wouldn't even mind getting down on my knees and doing some weeding. Welcome Guests A Gerry Breede had several welcome guests at her bird feeder last week. Her guests were some cardinals, red winged black birds and grackels. Spring may not be here, but it must be on Is way. The birds can't be wrong, can they?!? Greetings A very happy birtjjday to a gal who can always mawe you smile, Eunice Heise, on Saturday, April 3, and a happy anniversary- to Midge and Don Teuber who celebrated years of happiness together next Wednesday, April 7.
