Surgery Almost Fatal For Family Pet What should havd been a routine operation for Abby -a beautiful Dalmation, owned by Diana and Chase Koch almost took her life recently. The operation was performed by a county vet and she apparently suffered a reaction from a shot. She slipped into a deep coma with only 4 heart palpitations per minute. The vet kept the family informed during the entire crucial procedure. He even cancelled a dinner appointment to remain with the dog. The vet called a consultation with a regular medical doctor who recommended using a high powered rare drug which comes from England. It is used only as a last resort. When the drug was administered, Abby responded, and was brought home LAKEMOO SHIRLEY SCHUERR R- LM MOOR 386-2648 AUXILIARY HEARS DISCUSSION ON SCHOOL TAXES The Woman's auxiliary will hold its monthly meeting Monday, April 5, in the dining room of Club Lilymoor at 8 p.m. Hostesses for the April meeting are Connie Johnson, Marion Leske and Ida Legge. Even a minor auto accident may result in shattered eyeglasses with resulting injury to eyes. The Institute for Safer Livim; urges the use of safety glasses and strong frames for all motorists who require prescription lenses for driving. Safety lenses, easily ground to prescription, can withstand heavy impact and provide imcomparable protection jn case, of collision. Safety lens sunglasses also should be worn, rather than ordinary easily .shattered ones. . V. F. W. AUXILIARY NEWS by Renee Jende The Women's Auxiliary to Fox River Post 4600 met on Monday, March 22. Due to the inclement weather, several members were absent. We were all sorry to hear that Marian Moser was ill. We certainly hope that by this printing you will be feeling fine again. A „thank-you note was received from St. Paul's Episcopal Church for the lo^n of our bowls f';v their lenten supper. Jean Wiles and Genevieve Bradley attended the last Downey party. They reported on a very successful party. Due to the bad roads, they were undecided c^bout goingf^but when they got there and found all the men awaiting their arrival, they were glad they had decided to go. , Americanism Chairman, Inez Young informs us that a proclafnation has . been drawn up for Loyalty Day. She will &ee the Mayor "and ask that it be signed and printed in the paper. Loyalty Day is May 1. Essay Chairman Florence Svoboda was absent; however, President Gen Bradley told us that Flo had ten essays that had been entered in the contest. We* should be hearing from Flo which of our young people were the winners. Vi Abbink, Community Service chairman, reported on books she. is preparing, for entry in the department contest. She has been waiting for various committee chairmen reports. Candy was donated by a local drugstore to be distributed to the Woodstock Children's home. A card party is in the offing, with April 21 as a tentative date. Watch this column for further details. The ° next meeting will be April 12 at 8 p.m. at the clubhouse. This meeting will be the election of officers, so let's all attend.' Bear in mind that the gals that have worked hard all year and attended meetings are usually the best officer material. It stands to reason that those who do not attend meetings and refuse to serve on various committees would not have the'interest of the auxiliary and its dedicated services at heart. It's always iflore fun to spend money for srfch necessities as new cars, vacations, and vacation clothing, than for such lux^ uries as meat, bread and potatoes. We start out as part of a family. And even though we know we are "little" it doesn't matter. We are part of the family--that's important. And what We will become--the family is looking out for that! Then one day we are grownups. And again we are part of a family. But now we are "big." Oh so big! For what the rest of the family will become-- that depends on us! ; j How important a part did the Church play in your transition from being little to being big? Well, in this free land, the chances are good that you grew up spiritually as well as physically. But, even if you didn't--it's not too late! Not only can you see yourchildren off to a free and fine education, but you can come with them to ehurch .. . where the "little" and the "big" learn of GOD . . . where the truth of Christ's teaching guides the destiny of THE FAMILY. tafyrigtt 1968 KtitUr Aivtrtimnf 8truict, Inc., Straiburg, Vo. THE CHURCH FOR ALL ALL FOR TH€ CHURCH The Church ic the greatest factor on earth for the building of character and good citizenship. It is a storehouse of spiritual values. Without a strong Church, neither democracy nor civiliza-. tion can survive. There are four sound reasons why every person should attend services regularly and support the Church. They •re: (1) For his own sake. (2) For his children's sake. (3) For the sake of his community and nation. (4) For the sake of the Church itself, which needs hit moral and material support. Plan to go to church regularly and read your Bible daily.
