The meeting will be very imijflBJ- tant, as there will be a general election of new members to the "board of directors to fill the vacancies of the four retiring board members. The following candidates have accepted nominations so far, G. A. Douglas, William Frazier, Stanley Krueger, Lawrence Mc- Clure and Richard Walinski. There will also be representatives from the local board of improvements present, to bring us up to date on the road program. Woman's Club meeting Lyda Radisch and her welcome committee were very pleased with the turnout they had at their salad luncheon and hat sale, last Wednesday. There were many friends from Mc- Henry who came out to enjoy the luncheon and we were very pleased to see them there. The salad bar had such a large variety of salads it was very hard to fit them all on our plates but we did our best. Everything was just delicious. Ruth Roach, who was in charge, did a superb job. The following evening we again had a chance to buy our Easter hat when they were, jse£ at Woman's club meeting. We had election of officers with the following slate being voted on. Vickey Bottari, lis President; Veretta Gerstad, 1st Vice- President; Jo Rizzo, 2nd Vice- President; Lyda Radisch, treasurer; Secretary, Flora Hageman. We are sure that these people will have a very successful year and we hope that they will have a lot of support from the members. After the meeting, Jerry Rogers was nice enough to come in and ri^n the projector for two films Jo Rizzo had gotten. Cake and coffee was served during, the films. It was very nice to see Lee Glorch out to Woman's club after her illness. Also Lillian Glosson whom we haven't seen for a while. (Jirl Scouts On' Monday, March 29, wo opened - our meeting with the Pledge of-.Allegiance, and' the Girl Scout promise. The two Cadettes from Troop 41 came to the meeting and we talked about planning a party. Wo also practiced saying' our Girl Scout laws, and also talked about thom. Lakeland Park Couples Bowling League The Lakeland Park couples bowling league met for their last game before Sweepstakes last Saturday. The Dodgers stayed in first place with 19 points, the Pirates are in 2nd with 15*2. the Orioles are in 3rd with 15 points, the Braves are in 4th with 14^ points, the Cubs and the Sox are tied for 5th, the Mets are in 7th with 13 points and the Yankees are in last place with 7 points. Walter Pissowotski knocked Clar Haerle out of hi-series scratch with a 573. Clar then is. hi-series with handicap with a 667. The ladies stayed the same with Mary Lou Wilkens having a 500 scratch series and Delores Rogers having a 682 series with handicap. On the 17th of April we will have sweepstakes in McHenry and the first place teams will have their playoff. See you there. Get-Well Wishes We are quite sure we are joined by the entire subdivision in wishing Carmon Hodges nothing but the very best wishes for speedy recovery from the serious eye surgery he is to undergo on • Wednesday of this week. Carmon is at Sherman hospital in Elgin and is in room 389 and we know he'd be ever so grateful for your prayers and cards. Our prayers go to Carmon and his family. Strolling Through the Park Last Wednesday bridge was the order of entertainment at the home of Ann Leigh. Ann's refreshments were high in calories and delicious in eating and were enjoyed by Ann Horzog who took top honors for the evening followed by Ruth McMahon in second. Louise McEnery, Ivy Lezak, Lucille Deitz, Delia Julian, Gayle Laursen and Ruth Chadwick all enjoyed the evening. Sunday was spent in Lombard for Ann Herzog. She visited with Jier daughter and family, the Ellis Steens. It was a gathering of the clan to celebrate Ann's grandson Robbie's second birthday. Our congratulations go to Grandma and grandpa Rehberg on the arrival of their third grandson. Todd Louis made his entrance on March 31 at Woodstock hospital and weighed in at 6 lbs., 11 ozs. and measured a total of 19% inch^S. Todd's proud folks are Pat and Gordie Rehberg and he has two brothers, Scot tie and Kurt. Among the gals hit by spring colds are Jo Rizzo and Sue Grizley, hope they are much better.. Ann find Rich Wohnrade a their children enjoyed the company of Ann's niece and nephew from Batavia. Ricky and Linda Carlstedt enjoyed their spring vacation with Aunt Ann and uncle Rich. Shirley Koch and Ann Wohnrade attended the Y.W.C.A.'s water show in Des Plaines on Sunday evening. Shirley's good friend, Laura Williams, starred in the show. . Edith Barwig was doubly thrilled this past week, her better half Ron is home from the hospital and her dad provided the second thrill with a call from South Carolina. Last weekend had Helen and Larry Strandquist in Western Springs at the home of their son, Larry, Jr. The occasion was two fold as it was Helen and Larry's daughter-in-law, Marjorie's birthday and at the party the engagement of their granddaughter, Susan, was announced. Susan is planning a July wedding. We wish to extend our very best to the newly engaged couple. Saturday of this past week Helen and Larry were the day guests of their good friends, Helen and Harold Rose of Western Springs. Heard that Kitty Hendle and Bill Kamp have been getting all mixed up with recent phone messages, Bill just got too excited and misunderstood Kitty but the whole thing was rather funny we thought-. Glad Bill got the right message and ended up at the home show in Rockford for several days last week. David Wagner has been having quite a time with his bad wrist again and it looks like Dave will have to have surgery done this summer. Gerry and Lloyd Wagner spent Sunday evening at the home of Ger's sister, Jane Umbarger, in Oakhurst 'A. belated "Happy Birthday" is extended to April Faunt who celebrated on April 1. Her folks. Ronnie Kamp was 12 last Wednesday and in honor of the asion his mom Bette had a ery delicious chocolate cake, ice cream and all the works for Ronnie's grandma and grandpa Druml, aunt Dorothy Bruscato, Uncle Eddie and aunt Kay Druml, his cousins, Glen Hamilton, Beth and Ricky Bruscato, Brian Powers and his fiance Kathy. Brusso. Dennis and Kevin Druml and his real good friend Donnie Williams. On Saturday the boys were all treated to a roller skating party. Giving my Godson his birthday spanking is getting to be quite a rough ordeal. On Thursday Rose and Ed Oswald spent the day with Barb and Joe Herman of Lake Marie. Mr. Herman sustained a broken collar bone not too long ago and Rose and Ed take them shopping and to. church as he is unable to drive his car. On Sunday the four of them went to Warrenville to visit with Rose's sister, Ann, and her husband, Irvin. Hear Ed is going to get a compass for Father's Day, he has a knack recently for getting lost. Better pack a thermos of coffee and make some sandwiches next time you leave Rose, you never know when you'll be needing it. Kitty and George Hendle were very pleased with a visit from Gorge's folks, Mr. and Mrs. John Hendle of Chicago on Friday. Grandma and grandpa Hendle took their two grandsons, Johnnie and Marty, home with them and Kitty and George joined them on Saturday evening. All five of George's brothers and their wives along with Kitty and George had a wonderful time Saturday evning bowling. Glad to hear that Mary Jane Hodges was able to go back to schooj this week after being home from school with the flu last week. She was still hoarse on Sunday evening and couldn't sing her solo for the high school program but she did enter in the group singing. A birthday party for 6 year old Mary Alice Angelari was held last Friday with Mrs. Sam Parisi doing honors and about 16 children joining in the fun. Mary's birthday was on the 4th. A supper of hot dogs, egg salad, tuna fish, etc. with cake and ice cream to top it all off. Sherry Patterson had a houseful last Friday evening when she held a demonstration. Judy Slonnia celebrated her birthday with a party on April 3. She was 7 on March 31. Darlene and Tina Licastro, Debbie Stupey, Cindy Kamp, Penny and Vanessa Sehaan, Sandy and Debbie Cholewa, and Dawn Parisi and her Aunt Bonnie Parisi and Aunt Marian Cholewa were all there to help celebrate. The children played games and had cake and ice cream. Another birthday party which was celebrated last week was in honor of Patty Laursen. Orchard Drive. After calling the fire department, they escaped with only the , clothing they were wearing. The family dog has not been located and it is suspected that he perished in the fire. Company 1 of McHenry and Company 3 of Lakemoor answered the summons with four pieces of equipment. Chief of police Earl Murray and officer Ken Loesch assisted the fire fighters by blocking traffic at Spring Road and Forest View Drive. Both firemen and police officers remained on the job until the fire was completely extinguished at 4 a.m. An estimated five thousand dollars in damage was caused by the conflagration which started in the attic. The Ed Crick home on the east side and a residence owned by summer people on the west side were not harmed and the fire department must be commended for keeping the fire confined. Mrs. Jones and her daughters took refuge with Mr. and Mrs. Paul Jones of Marengo. Accident Victim Recovering Anne Marie Scarbrough was reported in good condition in McHenry hospital Monday morning after being involved in' an auto accident early Sunday morning. She is reported to have lost control of her car on North Riverside Drive just outside the city limits and rammed a telephone pole. She was alone in the car at the time. The vehicle is reported to be totally demolished. Ladies Meet Tonight Members of the Ladies of the Lake will meet at 8 p.m. in the beachhouse tonight for a combination business and social session. Accident Results In Surgery Carol Bateman who is a candidate for village clerk in the upcoming election will be forced to postpone her campaigning until she is released from the hospital. A freakish accident in her home a few weeks ago put her in McHenry hospital to correct damage caused by . a broken nose. She entered last Thursday and underwent surgery on Friday. She was scheduled to be confined for about a week. Here's hoping the job will give her back her lovely profile. Village Board Meets Monday The president and trustees will meet in regular session on Monday, April 12, at 8 p.m. in the beachhouse. The public is invited and encouraged to attend. Eggs Will Ron For Kiddies The annual EasteVegg hunt for youngsters through 12 will be held Saturday, April 17 at 2 p.m. according to chairman Rich Johnson. Attends Patriotic Congress Marie Howe, who is National Security chairman for McHenry County Council for the American Legion auxiliary, trained to the city last Thursday with several members of McHenry Post 491 Legion auxiliary to attend the 37th annual Patriotic Congress at the* Pick- Congress Hotel. They were impressed with an address by Mrs. Jane Fiquet Hanna who is the deputy director of Civil Defense, Pentagon Bldg., Washington, D. C. She stressed the importance and need of becoming acquainted with and supporting local civil defense directors. World War I Vets Entertain Wives Several of the local gals put away their cooking utensils for an evening ^and enjoyed a meal with their husbands at the American Legion home last Thursday night. The event was a dirtner meeting given by members Of the World War I Barracks.
