Brownies Hold Mother's Tea A lovely time was had at the tea which the Brownies had last Tuesday for about fifteen mothers. We were seated at card tables which were decorated with flowers and pretty candy cups which the girls made. The meeting opened with the mothers joining the girls in the pledge of allegiance and the singing of "My Country 'Tis of Thee". The Brownies then said their pledge. A little play was then presented--a take off on the "Queen for a Day" program, with all the girls doing sppje; fine acting. They then served their mothers coffee and cookies. Mrs. Webber passed out the registration blanks for Day camp and asked for volunteers from the mothers to help Qut that week. One mother for every 8 girls is needed. Camp will be held at Cooney Heights Woods from June 28 to July 2 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and reserT vations must be in by May 26. The afternoon was closed with the friendship circle and singing of taps. Pony League This year the men and boys of Lakeland Park are well represented in Pony League. We have four men with different teams Little League Little league practice is nojy under way, but there is still time to join if you hurry. Ron Meurer has registration blanks and they can be gotten anytime after school. Remember, your registration money has to be in before you can play in a game so get your blanks and money over to Ron as soon as possible. His address is 4814 W. Prairie Ave. The last Wednesday of the month is the night of the Little League open meeting where all interested fathers can voice their opinion or give their help. Mark your calendars now for May 26 at 7:30 p.m. Woman's Club Spring really arrived at the community house where the "May Pole" was surrounded by colorful carnations and cupcakes at the regular Woman's club meeting last Thursday. The business at hand was discussion of our annual smorgasbord which is coming up June 19, the day before Father's day. The girls were given a chance to sign up for the dish they wish to donate. Anyone who would like to donate their favorite dish of food, we would be more than willing to accept. Just call Jan Kozy at 385-2682. We also need more workers, as more hands mean lighter work. We are trying a new system this "year. Last year we had so many people standing in line waiting that we are having three different sittings this year with your ticket being good only for the sitting it is bought for Tickets will be sold in advance. We had to turn many people away last year, don't let this happen to you. At the end of our meeting the new officers were installed with Toots Gerstad taking over as first vice-president from Dee Frazier and Clara Hagerman taking over the secretary's duties from Jan Kozy. Vicky Bottari, Lyda Radisch and Jo Rizzo are continuing in their same offices. The meeting was closed and Jo Rizzo took over for the entertainment of the evening. The ladies played games and really had a ball. The night ended with coffee and cake being served. Get-Well Wishes First of all I want to tell Kay Druml that I hope she hurries up and gets well because I need her. Kay underwent surgery last week at Harvard hospital. Saw Aggie Prazak last Sunday and she's got a real beaut of a cold. Take care Aggie. Jessie Matthews was off of her feet last week when a blister on her heel from a new pair of shoes turned into blood poisoning. A couple of fast acting shots and several days off her feet brought her back to normal. Rich Wohrade was home last week with a backache or strain of some sort. May you all have many more wonderful years of togetherness. Strolling Through The Park Grandma Rizzo spent a lovely weekend at the Rizzo home for Mother's day. Bob and Jessie Matthews and family took a ride into the city to her folks Mr. and Mrs. Reed, for mother's day. Donna Kwiatek had her special evening when she went to the prom last Friday at Marion Central high school. Quite a few mothers and a father or two enjoyed a spring program at Valley View School last Friday morning with each class singing five of their favorite songs. Even the kindergarten class sang a song for the occasion. As a special feature, Carol Huff of our subdivision danced a beautiful ballet number while the 4th graders sang. It was a very enjoyable morning. Grace Mandziera was hostess for the Tripoley players last week with Ivy Lezak, Louise McEnery, Delia Julian, Ruth McMahon, Edna Hountras and Ann Herzog all enjoying the game and the delicious goodies which were served. Saturday evening Louise Mq- Enery had a surprise birthday party for her husband, Jim. The weatherman co-operated very nicely so she had a cookout and served on the patio. The group then played cards. Ruth and Orlo McMahon, Edna and Tom Hountras, Ivy and Stan Lezak, Delia Julian, Ann Herzog and boys, Danny Lezak, Mike and Bob McEnery all enjoyed the evening very much. Ann Herzog was visited by her daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. E. M. Steen, and daughter, Gini, on Sunday for Mothers day. She put them to work changing storms and screens, and they then took her out for dinner at a local restaurant. Jay and Evelyn Osmon with daughters, Jody and Barbara, had an enjoyable dinner out Sunday and then took a trip into Oak Park to see Jay's mother. Burch, Jr., of Wonder Lake was fined $25 and costs and sentenced to three days in jail for operating a motor vehicle without a driver's license. T. Eicksteadt of 2212 W. Wright Road, McHenry, was charged with driving with a revoked license and was sentenced to seven days in jail and fined $38.60 and costs. Andrew J. McCarroll of McHenry received a $10 fine and costs for reckless driving, changed from an original charge of driving while intoxicated. The above cases were heard in Branch I court. } William E. Watts of McHenry was fined $35 and costs on a qharge of acceptance or purchase of liquor by a minor. Two companions were given the same fine last week. James Covey of 1609 Pleasant Avenue, Lakeland Park, was fined $50 and costs of $39.20 when he appeared in Branch I Court Friday. The charge was possession of alcoholic liquor in a motor vehicle.
