Mrs. William Boetsch, who acted as toastmistress, called on' Fr. Baumhofer, Fr. Wiedetnan and Miss Sarah Myer, district deputy, for short talks. Members from Court Elgin were also introduced. An enjoyable part of the evening was presented by Mrs. James Wegener, who sang solos in keeping with the occasion. This was followed by a community song fest. On Wednesday, May 12," ataout thirty ladies attended the day of recollection at Villa Redeemer. Members are reminded of the business meeting on May . 20. NANCY WEBER Couple Sets Wedding Date Mrs. Agnes Weber announces the engagement of her daughter, Nancy, to Charles Majercik, son of Mr. and Mrs. Allan Phillips of Wonder Lake. Oct. 30 has been set by the young people for their wedding. On May 27 the next regular meeting of the McHenry Garden Club will be held at the home of Mrs. J. J. Gruenfeld, 510 N. Clement Lodge Road, at 1 p.m. This has been a busy month, with the first schedules coming in requestioning entry in various flower shows in both specific and open classes. $11 new members are being encouraged to try their skills in the open classes in either the horticulture or artistic division. They will also l>e helping the older members in .the invitational classes. At the May meeting each member has been asked to lining packets of flowers and/or vegetable seeds to be ^ent to Downey Hospital. These are used by the patients as a part -of their therapy and convalescent treatment. This is an annual project of J he Planl, Fruit and Flower Guild which is . an integral part of the Garden .Club. Newlyweds KATHLEEN BRUSSO McHenry Girl's Engagement Told Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Brusso of 3009 West Rt. 120, McHenry, announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Kathleen Ellen, to Brian Powers, son of Mrs. Dorothy Bruscato of Wonder Lake. The wedding will take place June 12 in Zion Lutheran church, McHenry. OUTSTANDING SENIOR Bernard M. Buss, formerly of McHenry, has been named an outstanding senior by the college of business administration at Marquette University, Milwaukee. He also was named to membership in Beta Gamma Sigma, national commerce honor society. These senior awards were based on scholarship, service extracurricular activities and leadership. Honor Louise Tonyan At Bridal Shower A miscellaneous bridal shower was held Sunday at the home of Mrs. Robert Tonyan honoring Louise Tonyan. Assisting the hostess were Mrs. Girard Zimmerman, Mrs. Ronald Tonyan, Mrs. William Tonyan, Mrs. Charles Tonyan and Donna Frett. Twenty guests were served a buffet luncheon from a table decorated in the wedding colors of yellow and white and a fresh daisy centerpiece. Miss Tonyan will become the bride of James Militello, Jr.. of Crystal Lake on June 19 at St. Mary's Catholic church. Bridal Shower Honors Kathleen Ellen Brusso A miscellaneous bridal shower was held in honor of Kathleen Ellen Brusso Sunday in the Lakeland Park community house. Hostesses for the lovely party were Bette Kamp. Bette Brusso and Lil Druml. A delicious luncheon of cake, coffee and punch was served from a table decorated with -bridal favors and centerpiece made by Bette Kamp. Among the thirty-five guests present were Kathy's mother. Mrs. Eleanor Brusso, and friends and relatives from Wis- | consin, Chicago and McHenry. Miss Brusso will become the bride of Brian Powers June 12 at the Zion Lutheran church in McHenry. BETTY BANACH McHenry (iirl Engaged To Wed Betty Jean Banach's engagement to Douglas Miller is announced Jjy her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Banach of Riverside I)rive, McHenry. The prospective bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Miller of Parkview, also in McHenry. Mr. Miller is a 1962 graduate of McHenry high school and is presently attending Elgin college. DAVID Wl'TTKE A wedding of interest was solemnized on Saturday, May 8, in Spring Grove when Miss Geraldine Sheets of Spring Grove became the bride of Mr. David Wuttke of Genoa City. They will make their home in Genoa City. Sewing Guild Sponsors Party On Tuesday, June 8, at 1 o'clock in the afternoon, the Sewing Guild of the woman's auxiliary to McHenry hospital will sponsor a card party and dessert luncheon at the Knights of Columbus hall, 1304 N. Park Street, McHenry. Prizes will include a hat which the guild won on the Lee Phillips television show. Tickets are available at the Pink Lady Shoppe of the hospital or from members of the guild. All proceeds will go to the hospital building fund. First place winners this year were Mr. and Mrs. Harold Stilling, who went from third place to first on the final night. Second prize was won by Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Clark. Prize for highest score of the evening was awarded to Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Corcoran. Bridge for Books is a oncea- month tournament for couples. Donations by the participants are used to buy books for St. Patrick's school library. Married May 1 DINNER TO HONOR JULIA FEFFER ON HER RETIREMENT A retirement dinner in honor of Miss Julia Feffer of Crystal Lake will be held at Martinetti's on Thursday evening, May 27. Miss Feffer will complete forty-one years^ as a teacher and principal of Prairie Grove school and retire at the close of this term. During this long period of time she has made a wide circle of friends. Well known in this community, she was born on a farm in Nunda township, between Crystal Lake and McHenry. Her future plans include devoting more time to her home in Crystal Lake, travelling and other leisure time activities. Twenty-eight of the forty-one years at Prairie Grove were spent in the one-room schoolhouse as a teacher of the eight grades, principal, school janitor, nurse and counselor. In the last thirteen years she has seen great changes, with first the addition of two rooms and then four more. These seven rooms now have an enrollment of 185, showing a need for another addition. Anyone desiring to attend her retirement dinner should make reservations no later than Thursday noon, May 20, by phone 4.59-6276. KENNETH TOWNSEND Saturday, May 1. was the day selected by Miss Elaine Marie Michels and Mr. Kenneth D. Townsend, for their wedding, which was performed at St. John the Baptist Catholic church. The bride js the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence J. Michels of 1203 W. Goodview Avenue, Pistakee Bay, and Mr. Townsend is the son of the Earl Townsends of Richmond. Attending the bride were Miss Kathy Smith of Mc- Henry as maid of honor. Mrs. William Beutel of Johnsburg, Miss Connie Sweet of Woodstock, Miss Barbara Michels of Johnsburg and Miss Carol Townsend of Rockford as bridesmaids. FRENCH In honor of the golden wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Burton N. French of 2313 N. Alton, McCullom Lake, a dinner and reception were enjoyed on Saturday, May 8, at 7 o'clock in the evening at the Legion home in McHenry. About seventy-five friends and relatives were in attendance. Mrs. French was attractive in a gold brocade dress made by her sister, Charlotte,, of Florida, during the time she was visiting them.
