Party Honors Three Teachers KATHRYN RIIIA Couple Plans July Wedding Mr. and Mrs. Joseph J. Riha of 1504 River Terrace Drive announce the engagement of their daughter, Kathryn Lynn, to Dominick Angelo Scolaro, son of Mr. and Mrs. William De Vries, 3402 West 3rd avenue. Miss Riha is a graduate of Patricia Stevens Career College and Mr. Scolaro attended the University of Tulsa in Oklahoma. Both are 1962 graduates of McHenry high school. The wedding will take place in July. Sixty-one teachers, faculty members and guests of the elementary schools, District 15, McHenry, honored Mrs. Eleanor Foley, retiring administrator of Edgebrook school, Miss Nellie Doherty, retiring fourth grade teacher, and Mrs. Elsie Hoppe retiring kindergarten teacher, at a dinner party held on June 2 at Dundee. Mrs. Helen Mauch and Mrs. Alice Macdonald presented the honored guests with beautiful pink and white corsages. Miss Carolyn - Bauer gave a short history of Miss Doherty's forty-six years of teaching service, and introduced Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Angelse and Mrs. Lillian Bolger, who were J invited guests for Miss Dohi erty. The Woman's Society of Christian Service of the Community Methodist Church will hold the monthly meeting on June 17 at 1 o'clock p.m. The program will consist of the showing of two films on cancer, one titled "Breast Self-Examination" and the other "Time and Two Women." Mi's. Frank Gregory arranged for these films, which arc available to any interested group through the American Cancer Society. Dr. Bennett Berman. obstetrician and Gynecologist at the McHenry Medical Group, will be present to answer any questions concerning the subject. A tea will be served following the film. A resume of Mrs. Foley's thirtyeight and one half years of teaching experience and administrative service was presented by Mrs. Pries, which was not only interesting but most humorous. Mrs. Elsie Hoppe's teaching experiences were also presented by Mrs. Pries. The tables were appropriately decorated for the occasion with miniature rocking chairs decorated in gold and were surrounded with pink roses. The place cards for the honored guests were tiny gold rocking chairs, all in keeping with the retirement theme. Miss Man- Kinney. Miss Genevieve Knox, Mrs. Velma Douglas, Mrs. Mary Butler, Mis. Lenore Cooley and Mrs. Ruth Mead, retirees of the past from District 15, were also in attendance. Mrs. Dorothy Gibbs and Mrs. Vera Ward presented the three retiring teachers with beautiful gifts of Beleek Par ian China from Ireland which will be long cherished. Phil Helwig, music instructor of Edgebrook school, conducted a group singing session at the conclusion of the program. Many heartwarming congratulations were received by the three retiring teachers from everyone present. The social committee from the elementary schools, consisting of Miss Carolyn Bauer, Mrs. Pauline Pries, Mrs. Dorothy Gibbs, Mrs. Vera Ward, Mrs. Marion Brolin, Mrs. Delores Hoover. Justen exchanged nuptial vows with Mr. William I. Henderson. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold M. Justen ol 3609 W. Main Street, McHenry, and the groom is the son of Mrs. William I. Henderson, Sr., of 3710 Millstream Drive, McHenry. Rev. Fr. E. C. Baumhofer officiated at the 11 o'clock service. Blonde Miss Justen was radiant in a silk organza bridal gown with shea'th-like front, her bouffant skirt draping into a full train. The bodice was styled with scoop neck and long, tapered sleeves. Re-embraidered alencon lace medallions trimmed the neck and extended down the front. Her headpiece was of soft organza ""roses studded with pearls, holding a veil in four tiers of English silk .illusion. She carried a cascade of white orchids and stephanotis. Attending her were her sister, Mrs. Donald Blake, as matron of honor and Mrs. Edward Boss of Crystal Lake and Miss Kathy Vogt of McHenry, her cousins, as bridesmaids. They were attired in floor length dresses of aqua nylon over taffeta, wi'th bands of white lace at the high wartimes and on sleeves. Chap^»,4ra'ns were held in place /byvblue flowers. Their headpieces \v£re soft blue flowers with circle veils. Each girl carried a bouquet of blue carnations, glads and stephanotis. Richard Kubaiek of 2938 Cherry Lane, Northbrook, attended the groom as best -man and groomsmen were Craig Shaw, a friend, of Des Plaines and Henry Justen of McHenry, brother of the bride. Ushers were Kenneth Justen and Harold Justen, her brothers. Mrs. Justen chose a beige lace over organza dress with which she wore bone accessories and a corsage of green cymbidium orchids. Mrs. Henderson was attired in an iridescent metallic, jacket sheath dress, black accessories and a similar corsage. A breakfast followed the ceremony at 12:30 at the Legion home for thirty guests. Later. 200 relatives and friends gathered in the same hall for an evening reception. The couple will enjoy a honeymoon trip North and West. Upon their return they -will make their home at 3710 Millstream Drive, McHenry. The bride is a 1963 graduate of McHenry high school and is employed as secretary for Rae Motor Corp. The groom graduated in 1960 from Lafte Technical high school, Chicago, and is an engineer with the John Crane Packing Co., Mortor) Grove, 111. Pamela.
