The way these two teams are shaping up it looks like this could be one of those old fashioned whingding battles. Paul Morenz, home from the University of Wisconsin, was in the Tiger lineup last Sunday at Richmond and blasted a home run that seemed t.o spark the team. Something had the boys swinging bats with authority. The Shamrocks are back in the swing of competition in the league in spite of losing a tight game to Dundee last Sunday. They seem to be working together with a spirit that will catch the fancy of baseball fans. No matter what happens, a ball game between these two teams is always interesting and for keeps. After the way the Yankees blasted our White Sox last Sunday and the way Milwaukee teed off on the Cubs Tuesday with a barrage of home tuns, an undeclared moratorium seems to exist between our chief tormentors and us. What can we say? Our Sox win ball games like they invented the game -- then they run into the Yankees. back in the swing soon and perhaps a good start would be the game at Johnsburg next Sunday. So long for this time. PICKUPS-- The man who has a right to brag doesn't have to. A chip on your shoulder is the heaviest load you can carry. Nothing seems impossible to the fellow who doesn't have to do it himself. Even a girl can get interested in an antique, 11 he has plenty of money. Bob Blake hollered something across the street about that disastrous double header. Fred Meyej; (a Yankee lover) didn't say a word, but that little grin had significance. Guess Boston is our town. The Sox seem to thrive on those visits. We have asked for results and standings in the McHenry County league for each week. Last week they arrived on Friday. Wish our local teams would remind the league secretary that we are a weekly paper and need the copy as early as possible each week. We want to help boost the -league in any way we can. We worry more about these boys and girls on bicycles. Wish some organization like the Jaycees would start a program of instruction to help these youngsters avoid serious injury. Let's teach those kids to observe traffic signals for one thing. As for trick riding and weaving?, we enjoy watching the performance, but not on busy streets. How about doing something before something serious hapj>ens? "Mag" Simon, a good old soul, has passed away and we Recall the many times she offered a helping hand -- including our family when our children were small. Her good deeds should get her to heaven with greater speed than set by our men in space. We are wondering how many of our readers are interested in news on car racing. A call to let us know would help as a guide. Here is one note on a local driver: Duane Harris grabbed the lead in the modified stock car trophy dash by a fine move in the second lap. Harris's time of one minute, forty-four seconds established a new Waukegan Speedway six lap record. Harris later finished third in the third heat race and then was a hot second in the record breaking feature. In this race, Harris was involved in an accident resulting in a spectacular flip . . . but Harris was able to continue. Senator Collins believes "the premiums now received barely pay for the veterinary fees and trucking costs of the livestock, therefore, the increase is neeessai y." KI:AI> THE CLASSIFIEDS A real pitchers' dual took place last Sunday at A. P. Freund Field as Phil Schmidt and the Shamrocks took on Gary Peters and Dundee. Dundee was able to push across runs in the seventh and eighth innings to win 2-0. Schmidt pitched his heart out and looked very good but Peters was just a little tougher with men on base. The Shamrocks had great, opportunities in the seventh and eighth as they loaded the bases with only one out^, However, in the seventh a strikeout and a line drive that was caught ended it and the next inning it was a snappy double play. This Wednesday night the Shamrocks travel to Elgin to play the Noonhours at 7:45 p.m.' and Friday night they travel to Genoa to play De- Kalb under the lights. Next Sunday they take on the Tigers at Johnsburg. McHenry Country Club 2U/ 3>o& by Verona Kent Of al the sneaky ways to sink an approach shot, Lil Kimball used the most devious method we've ever heard about. On 12, Lil's approach shot hit her opponent's ball and her ball richocheted off at a 90 degree angle to end up in the-cup. It's obvious Paul Hahn hasn't got a monopoly on trick shots. It must have looked like hail on the front nine for awhile this morning with all those little white pellets flying into the cups. Pearl Miller sunk her approach on 6, Elsie Olson sunk her approach on 5 and V'erona Kent chipped in on 9. Flag day winners were Belle Vitense for Class A, Vera Herdrich for Class B and Nell Fidler for Class C. Today's scores count as the qualifying score for Match Play Tournament coming up next Tuesday. Partners and tee times will be posted during the week. Good luck to all! ttEAD THE CLASSIFIEDS ~~ The McHenry Country Club is happy to anounce the inauguration of a young people's mer golf program.
