Korner joined the company in 1948 in the Service Supply department, was subsequently transferred to the Service Purchasing department, and in 1951 to the Risk Experience department. He was appointed chief clerk in November of 1951, and promoted , to department head in 195$. Korner attended Illinois Institute of Technology and Sam Houston State Teachers College. Korner is treasurer of St. Paul's Episcopal Church and has been active in junior achievement for eleven years, presently serving on the North district counseling committee. Korner and his wife, Gladys, live at 1201 S. Hilltop Boulevard, McHenry. They have two sons. CONSTRUCT BUILDING A new building to house Althoff's Heating & Air Conditioning is under construction just south of the present building. They expect to move by Sept. 1. COMPLETES COURSE Frank J. Nechrebecki, 4916 West 120th Street, McHenry, graduated last week from a special two-week course in industrial instrumentation held at the Leeds & Northrup Company Training Center in Philadelphia. Employed at American Steel Treating Company, Nechrebecki is in instrumentation and repair. The instruction included studies in gas analysis equipment and temperature measuring instruments. ATTEND CONVENTION John J. and Alyce J. Shay, owners of Shay's Music World, will attend the sixtyfourth annual convention and music show of the National Association of Music Merchants in Chicago next week. Attending the national musia market, Mr. and Mrs. Shay wiLl inspect the newest styles and models of musical instruments which will make their appearance in music retail stores throughout the nation this fall. PHONE RATES A new schedule of long distance rates for within-state calling, which Will result in annual savings of nearly $2,- 000,000 to Illinois users, went into effect on Saturday, June 19, it was announced by Illinois Bell Telephone. The customer savings will be realized principally by an extension of the hours during which reduced rates are in effect, a. company spokesman said. The new hours are the same as those now in effect for out-of-state long distance calls. Lowest station - to - station rates will apply any time on Sunday and after 8 pi.m. on all other days. During these periods, the maximum charge for an Illinois three-minute station call will be 50 cents, plus tax. For more than 85 per cent of these cal's, however, the maximum three-minute charge will be 50 cents it was pointed out. Saturday day station rates also are reduced. <? Here are some examples of how the new rate schedules will work in McHenry: A station call from McHenry to Crystal Lake is reduced from 15 to 10 cents. The charge for a McHenry to Rock Island, three-minute, station call from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Friday, is reduced from 50 to. 40 cents. The charge for a McHenry to Alton, three-nuaue, station call on Saturday during the day is reduced from 90 to 70 cents. The effect of these changes will produce minor increases and decreases in some station and person-to-person rates, mostly of a.nickel or a dime. NEW BUSINESS The city welcomes a new business -- McHenry Tailored Drapery--which opened Monday, June 21, at 3717 W. Elm Street. It will feature a complete line of draperies and other allied items. The owners are Bob Birr of Mount Prospect and Jean Hitter of Salem, Wis. Coeds To Help Host Museum Of Science Tourists visiting Chicago's Museum of Science and Industry this summer may not only get the impression they are on a college campus, but, among t.he demonstrators on hand to show them around, they will find two young women who are coming all the way from London. England, to try their hands at playing hosts to a big segment of the American public. As it has done in previous years, the Museum during the next three months will augment its staff of demonstrators temporarily by the addition of 770 college and university undergraduates, hailing from 51 educational institutions. The staff increase reflects the fact that in recent years the Museum's three-month summer attendance has been exceeding the million mark.
