For do we have freedom, have we ever really had true freedom? It is a shock--a rude awakening-- a cruel and sickening realization to discover that we never have had what man has been seeking to understand since time began. Or perhaps, in rationalizing, it might lift our hopes for the future that some day man will achieve this long sought for way of life. Dean Robert LeFevre has given thiis hope to the students of his course in Praxeology. Nestled in the foothills of the Rampart range in Colorado, midway between Denver and Colorado Springs, the Rampart College is teaching its students to THINK. It is not decreeing that, things should be this way or that way. It does not teach politics. The school offers for your evaluation what is right and what is wrong; What does freedom mean' to you? Can it be achieved--and if so--how? Dean LeFevre approaches subjects in the manner of what is truth--and what is not. Taking a principle--the student studies and thinks his own way to a conclusion. There is no dogma. LeFevre does not attempt to dogmatize or finalize. How different from other halls of learning--the ivory towers of dogmatic instruction! The student discovers that fact never changes--but opinions and explanations do. He learns the meaning of responsibility and obligation; the difference. The types of money (credit, fiat, and commodity) and wealth (consumer, entrepreneurial, and political) are scrutinized. The true meaning of protection, retaliation, retribution, and defense is analyzed. The basic documents of our time--the Communist Manifesto, the Russian Constitution, our Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States are studied and discussed--what learned men, such as Benjamin Franklin, De Tocqueville, etc., had to say about our Constitution. Besides eight hours of class every day, including Saturday and Sunday, the student is required to do outside reading--and write several papers having such titles as, "The Ideal Relationship Between Government and Economy." "The Importance of Labor Unions and Their Effect on Economy," "How would you go about the task of putting in a coast-to-coast highway without the help of the government," and "Am I Afraid of Freedom." The whole gamut is run from socialism, communism, interventionism, individualism to totalitarianism. The conclusion to each subject, and/or the principle thereof--is^ left to the student. He is the one who weighs and evaluates--as to the truth--the legal and moral principle. E. a Hold Color Slide Exhibit At Fair The first international exhibition of color slide photography at the. Illinois State Fair will be featured at the 1965 exposition. Four slides exposed by an entrant may be submitted before July 26. The winning slides will he shown daily in the Illinois Building. Tho exhibit is sponsored jointly by the State Fair and the 35 Camera Club of Springfield. The 1965 Illinois State Fair will open Friday, Aug. l.'i, and run through Sunday, Aug. 22. Resi-uo Squad Notes On June 29 the squad members were called to a home in Oakland subdivision where a man suffered a possible seizure. He was taken by the squad in the ambulance to the McHenry hospital. I hate to keep harping on the same subject but the squad members say there isn't much being done as yet as to the house numbers being placed in a conspicuous place. This is very important in a time of emergency. Wouldn't you hate to be the one who needed the squad's assistance and they could not find your home because it had no number on it? Please see that your home is numbered now. The same goes for street signs. If there are none in your area see what you can do about getting them put in as soon as possible. Also, parents please be very careful with your outdoor grills. Be certain the youngsters are no where near them while they are still hot. There is nothing so painful as a burn, no matter how small it may be. Avert such things by exerting caution during the entire time your grill is in use. t Granddaughter Hospitalized Please say a little prayer for the very young granddaughter of Gdorge and Olivia Hiller. The nine month old. baby has been confined to a Chicago hospital for several weeks now. She underwent heart surgery and has been recuperating slowly. She is the daughter of Frank and Dorothy Murphy. In Line For Best Wishes Peggy Peterson will observe birthday number 14 on July 11, while Joy Ann Hettermann will turn 14 on July 13. Fifteen is what Ricky Wakitsch will be on July 12. You can bet Bill Martinec will be surrounded by his family on July 13. It's his birthday. This happy month of July finds Warren Smith turning into a teenager. AUXILIARY NEWS by Renee Jende The Women's Auxiliary to Fox River Post 4600 held its regular meeting on Monday, June 28. Jean Wiles, president, presided over the first meeting of her term. The national convention will be held August 13-20 at the Sherman hotel in Chicago. All auxiliary members are welcome to attend. Delegates from this auxiliary are Jean Wiles, Gen Bradley and Marge Moreth. Alternates are Viola Schuble, Ethel Groth and Kathy Fuhler. An appeal was made by Ray Mann, district national home chairman, for canned goods for the national home. Illinois day at national home is set for Sept. 19. A thank you note was received from Gen Bradley for the gift she received from the auxiliary as the retiring president. President Jean Wiles named All the ball teams of our town, whether they are little ones, or the men, need much more team spirit at their games. They would like to see and hear more "rooters" at their future games. If you have any sports blood in you at all, get out to see a few of these games and let the players know you are behind them. There is a game either here or at the V.F.W. grounds, just about any night of the week. See some real soon. The teams will appreciate and you will get some great enjoyment from participating.
