Anyone driving into the subdivision is well aware that we have a road problem. All of a sudden things are starting to move, after much work done to bring it about. Last week Wednesday te grader was brought in by Mr. Melahn and the grader worked all day Wednesday and Thursday along with truckloads of gravel used to fill in the holes and ruts, thus giving us some much needed temporary repairs until the new roads are put in. , Orchids to Mr. Melahn from grateful residents and to Ellen Erickson Who made him aware of our problems. Yes, on that same Wednesday night the road program for Holiday Hills was approved by the township board. Not only that, but early the- next morning the engineer was at work in the subdivision already. I don't know when they will be completed, but the work has begun and once again we have hope of having good roads. This is a good time to give credit to ALL--and they are too many to mention by name (besides, with my luck, I'd miss someone) -- who have given loooooong hours of time and effort to bring these roads to pass. When they become a reality, instead of a dream, wouldn't it be fun to have an old fashioned street dance to celebrate?? Rummage, Anyone? The Holiday Hills Property Owners Association will sponsor a rummage sale on Saturday, Sept. 18. That seems a long time from now, and who wants to think about summer's end -- but -- with enough advance notice, it is hoped that you will have time to sort your clothes, giving items that are useable, not just thrown out. The committee would like items that are wearable, but no longer fit the family that owns them. How about starting now to check your ° next season's clothes, and what doesn't fit, set aside and call Bill Boettcher or Mary Mahon, they will Heises Go West Eunice and Chuck Heise, Dean and Dawn, left here Friday, July 3, and headed west with the station wagon and trailer. By Sunday, they were in the Black Hills. One of the most impressive sights they saw was the Little Big Horn, where they viewed General Custers battlefield. From there they went to Yellowstone National Park, spending several days there and one day at Old Faithful. The next stop was the Grand Tetons which were the most beautiful of all the vacation sights. Then on home .through Cheyenne, Wyo.. and eastward ho to Holiday Hills where they arrived one day shy of two weeks after they left, thoroughly enjoying .the entire trip. Eunice tells me the camp sites have s<? many conveniences that she didn't even miss out on the weekly wash and ironing. Contestants Holiday Hills had three lovely little misses participating as contestants in McHenry's Kiwanis sponsored Little Miss Peanut contest. Judy Abbink, Cathy and Eileen Connell all participated. I personally would never want to be judge because these little ones are all princesses in their own way and how they could ever arrive at a decision I'm not sure--but I'm sure it was difficult--and our three gals sure looked sweet up there. Swimming Lessons Swimming lessons are progressing at the Jake beach each Tuesday and Friday morning, from 8:30 until 12:30. Each lesson sees improvement and one day we'll have a whole subdivision of life savers. Clint Raven Injured In Holiday Hills Clint Raven was injured and his motorcycle damaged recently when an unknown family driving a convertible car on the wrong side of the road caused him to go off the road and turn over on the cycle. He sustained a triple break in his collarbone and undetermined damage to his cycle. One break is bad enough, but three--oooh, that must smart! Reunion Lorraine Bemis enjoyed a family reunion- with her sister, Elizabeth. Markham, and her two cousins, Ethel Meredith and Beatrice Van Winkle, on Saturday, July 10. It had been five years since the families had all gathered together and they all enjoyed comparing and exchanging news. Mr. and Mrs. D. M. Markham are from St. Petersburg, Fla., and Mrs. Lloyd Van Winkle and Mr. and Mrs. Michael Meredith are from Chicago. Mr. Meredith is a feature writer for a Chicago newspaper. Get-Well Wishes A cheerful bouquet of getwell wishes to Robert Sundby recently hospitalized for more surgery on his leg--to Gerry Smith who was confined to McHenry hospital last week for extensive tests and surgery -- and to Ellen Erickson whose recent stroke still keeps her close to home. All proceeds will go toward the $750 necessary to sponsor a foreign student at the local high school for one school year. The McHenry chapter of AFS has sponsored two students and is now looking forward to receiving a student from Viet Nam for the coming school year. Information on the student will be forthcoming at a future date. Each of the .2,904 AFS students who are now touring the United States before leaving for home has gained an insight into the American way of life. All who have been brought into contact with any of these students feel their „lives have been greatly enriched by their presence here. The success of this program is dependent upon community support. Without such support the program would fail. Good will and understanding among peoples of nations has greater meaning for those who have, in some way, contributed to this effort. Upon looking out she saw her son, Bill, who has just returned from serving in Okinawa and Viet Nam. Charlie's mother and Connie called Karen on the phone and she drove over to welcome Bill. They are all waiting the home coming of Charles who is on the road and doesn't know Bill has come back. Well I imagine the happiest place " in the Shores this week is the Lindwall home, as they celebrate the return of Bill, safe and sound after 3 years. Kunzers Have New Daughter Julie and George Kunzer of Hollywood Boulevard have weii corned a new baby girl, born July 6 at Woodstock Memorial hospital, named Beth and weighing in at 7 lbs., 15 ozs., length 20 inches. Harms enjoyed a steak dinner at a well know local restaurant on Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Christianson and their Jour children were guests of the A1 Mieritzs on Sunday. They hail from Edison Park and had a full day playing baseball, volley ball and shuffle board while all the children enjoyed the pool. On the 4th the A1 Miefitzes drove to Edison Park to celebrate Roberta's father's birthday. William Matthews was the guest of honor at the party including the entire family and close friends. Arthur Ruemeliri just returned from a week's vacation in and around Madison, Wis., where he has been visiting relatives. Helen Barden joihed a group of friends at Arlington Park on Wednesday but couldn't pick the right horse. Better luck next time, Helen. The Musielak family returned Thursday after a 10 day vacation in Brunswick, Maine. They spent the time with Bernice's sister and her husband, who is in the air foice and stationed in Brunswick. A visit to all the islands and a tour of the Naval Air Force Baj-ie was enjoyed by the whole family, also the ocean was something new and interesting. They made the trip by train and Cathy and Jeff got a big kick oiit of that. Ber- i nice is now hard at work getting her washing done and all the other jobs that accumulate while one is away. This was his first parade, and somehow it didn't come off as he thought. He didn't expect to be the whole show, but he did think he and his tuba would stand out a little. As it happened, he was just "one of th# band." Later, he will realize that if each player weren't just "one of the band" there wouldn't be any band at all. He'll start thinking from there, and the parade will seem a lot better in memory than it fioes right now.
