Section Two -- Page Three THE McHENRY PLAINDEALER Thursday /August 19, 19651 MCCULLOM LAKE NEWS EVE LEVESQUE 885-3101 LOCAL LITTLE LEAGUE DEFEATS LAKELAND PARK A very jubilant group of young lads rode home in the back of a truck shouting their victory last Saturday afternoon. The exact quote, "We WON! WE WON!" could be heard from some distance. The final score was 4-2. The local all stars went ahead with two home runs in the first inning and continued to increase their lead. We couldn't be happier for this great bunch of young guys who play to win but have demonstrated good sportsman- Ship along the way. Accolades to Brad Kommer, Terry and Larry Harvey, Val Bailey, Boyd Knaack, Wayne Johnson, Jim 4n' Jeff Michels, Jack Kaminski, Ron Kumpula, Tom Frost, Bruce Thacker, and Alex Hocin on their fine ball playing. Home runs were belted out by Jeff and Jim Michels and Terry Harvey. Praise must also go to Hill Kaminski and his adult helpers who have worked with the lads and fired their enthusiasm! Well done! Tornadic Terror Mark Ringelstetter and his companion of the road stopped at a restaurant in Addison,111., for a brief repast recently. The day was rather pleasant with no hint of foreboding in the air. As the two men sipped coffee, they glanced throgh the large plate glass windows and saw storm clouds in the distance. As the formation drew nearer, the terrifying funnel took shape. Knowing what was approaching, the two men took cover behind the counter while a few other customers who had not been through a similar experience paused to watch the show. The counter man literally "threw" one of the waitresses to the floor, also behind the counter. Those who took cover, including Mark and his friend, were uninjured while the "spectators" were badly cut with flying glass. The holocaust sucked every pane of glass out of the place and caused considerable more damage. Needless to say, Mark has a jgreat deal of respect for Mother Nature on the rampage and does not care to repeat his experience! The Browns and their daughter spent all sof last week enjoying a much needed vacation in the handsome home which they have renovated. Tom joined them for the weekend. More Chairmen Added To Roster Plans for the Cullom-Knoll summer festival are proceeding with great haste. Two more chairmen, have been named and they are Lois Parenti in charge of the buggy promenade and Chuck Thacker will have charge of the "wheels" parade for young lads. The festival will be held Saturday, August 28, beginning at ntibii. General chairmen for the event are Rich Johnson, Rog Kinsey and Ray Lary. More workers are needed to run the various games. If you are Interested, please call Rich at 385-6467. Hospitalized Marge Reid has been a pa-, tient at Memorial Hospital for McHenry County since Friday, Aug. 8. As of Monday, she was due to be confined for another week, recovering from a respiratory ailment. We sincerely hope her recovery will be rapid and immediate. Cystic Fibrosis Drive According to communication received from C.F. area chairman Neva Fuhrer, Lorraine Frost will head the drive in the village. The drive has been scheduled to begin next Monday, Aug. 23 and will continue through Sept. 10. Mrs. Frost needs volunteer workers to aid her in this cause and would appreciate a call at 385-3465. Announce Engagement Mr. and Mrs. Jim Brown of Chicago and Spring Road proudly announce the engagement of their daughter, Carole, to Mr. Thomas A. Wunder of Chicago. His parents are Mr. and Mrs. Michael Wunder also of Chicago. Carole received her lovely diamond solitaire on the afternoon of the Cullom-Knoll square dance, July 17, but the couple waited to make the formal announcement until they had set the date for their marriage. They will exchange vows and rings on May 21 of next year. He Has An "Owie" And it really hurts! Greg Burg, Sr., smashed his forefinger in the line of duty almost two weeks and it has required visits to the medic several times already and more to go. As the driver of one of those huge semis which requires shifting about 8-10 gears, his hands and fingers are a vital part of his job. He did try to work with it the very first day, but had to give up being a "stoic American Indian". The original bandage (almost a sling) has been replaced with a smaller and much daintier looking one. Goody. Almost in the line Three young local lads were mighty astonished the other afternoon as they were lounging in front of a business establishment. They were exchanging banter and watchin the traffic roll past when the; were almost clobbered with flying wheel. Bob Matchen of McHenr; and another fellow riding wit him were travelling east on the blacktop in a '58 model car when the entire rear right wheel assembly parted company with the vehicle. The bolts were sheared off. The two in the car assumed they had a flat tire and were horrified when they discovered the real story. It shook them up considerably. Jim and John Bailey and Mike Schmitt were the spectators and went to the aid of the unfortunate two. A tow truck was hastily summoned and peace was restored to our hamlet. Attacked By Flying "Missiles" Almost In The Line Of Fire No ddoubt, young Frankie Lorch let out a mighty scream last week when he was attacked by about 50 angry bees. He had been climbing a tree when he upset the hive and the flying insects retaliated. His face was a terrible looking mess for several days, but fortunately he suffered no lasting ill effects.
