SMITH St. John the Baptist church, Jdhnsburg, was tihe setting for a 'beautiful wedding last Saturday, Aug. 14, when Miss Sherry Evans changed her name to Mrs. Ronald Smith. Miss Evans is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Edmund Evans, Jr., of 3716 W. Waukegan road, McHenry, and the bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Smith of 3807 N. Spring Grove Road, Johnsburg. The nuptial ceremony was performed at 1 o'clock in the afternoon, with Neil Sobel singing "Ave Maria" prior to the Mass. He also sang "On "Ibis Day O Beautiful Mother" as the bride placed her bouquet on the altar of the Blessed Virgin. The church was decorated with altar baskets of mixed yellow and coral flowers, and the pews were marked with white bows. P r e t t y , d a r k - ( h a i r e d Miss Evans was radiant, in a gown of veiled organza with a scoop neckline edged with alencon l,ace. The fitted bodice was s t y l e d w i t h e l b o w l e n g t h sleeves and a bow at the waist, and the bell skirt had lace bands and a wide hem of alencon lace. The gown had a d e t a c h a b l e c h a p e l l e n g t h train. Miss Evans' headpiece Was of lace and pearls in a lampshade style, holding in place a full length veil of imported bridal illusion with lace appliques. She carried a full cascade of Japhette orchids with stephanotis, white pearl grapes and camellia foliage. Acting as her attendants were Mrs. Gerald Stilling of Crystal Lake, a friend, as matron of honor; Miss Diana Evans of McHenry, sister of the bride, Miss Marilyn Smith of Johnsburg, sister of tht? groom. Miss Jane Niemeyer of Effingham, Mrs. James Berg and Mrs. Richard Herdridh of McHenry, friends of the^ bride, as bridesmaids. All weie attired in gowns of duckling yellow chiffon, styled with scoop necklines, fitted bodices and bell skirts. The back detail included two chiffon panels of the same shade of yellow, and gladiola chiffon caught at the neckline with a flower of the two colors. Hcadpieces were of petal and bow effect in the same shades, with yellow veiling. They carried full cascades of birds of parad i s e , b i t t e r s w e e t , n a t u r a l Wheat and ti leaves. Thomas M. Potrykus of Villa Park served the groom as best man. Groomsmen were William Oeffling of Johnsburg, a friend, Thomas E. Evans, III, of McHenry, brother of the bride, Neil Vogan of Houston, Texas, Thomas Hamilton of Indianapolis, Ind., and John Moss of McHenry, all friends. Hill Rd. 385-4013 She wore a hat of veiling and ostrich feathers, matching accessories and had a corsage of green cymbidium orchids with coral sweetheart roses. Mrs. Smith wore a sheath dress of peacock blue, matching accessories and a corsage of white cymbidium orchids and yellow sweetheart roses. A reception for 400 guests was held at the McHenry Country Club following the ceremony. Decorations for the reception included baskets of yellow and coral flowers and potted palms banking the receiving line. Other similar floral centerpieces were used in the reception rooms and a pair of large candelabra decorated the buffet table. The latter were decorated with white candles, yellow grapes and yellow and white flowers. Lynn Reihansfferger, friend of the bride, was in charge of the guest book. The couple left later .on a trip to Vancouver and Victoria, British Columbia. Upon their return they will reside at 1032 Algonquin Road, Apt. 105, Arlington Heights. For her going-away attire, the new Mrs. Smith wore a yellow linen, two-ipiece suit with navy dotted Swiss accessories and an orchid corsage. Among the guests was the bride's maternal grandmother, Mrs. W. E. Kolb, of 2015 Thornton Court, Alexandria, La. The bride is a 1961 graduate of McHenry high school and attended the University of Colorado in Boulder, where she was president of Spurs, s o p h o m o r e W o m e n ' s H o n o r society. She received her degree in education from Northwestern university in Evanston in June of 1965, graduating with Distinction. She was a member of Delta Gamma sorority, of which 3he was vice-president. The groom graduated from McHenry high school in 1959 and attended Northern Illinois university. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in business from Northwestern university in 1964, serving Phi Kappa Sigma fraternity as treasurer. Mr. Smit'h received his Master's degree in marketing and finance from N o r t h w e s t e r n ' s g r a d u a t e school of business in June of 1965, graduating with Distinction. He was elected a member of Beta Gamma Sigma, national business honorary fraternity. The bride will teach in Prospect Heights next year. Mr. Smit'h is a budget analyst in the economic planning department of United Airlines. The groom's parents hosted a dinner at Richmond for the wedding party and families following the rehearsal on Friday night. A bullet luncheon and reception followed the marriage ceremony. After a week's honeymoon in the Lake region of southern Missouri, the bride and groom will reside in Lawrence, Kas., where Cheryl will finish her senior year at the University. Aug. 14, when she exchanged nuptial vows with Mr. Charles Dixon. The ceremony which united the young McHenry couple in matrimony was performed in St. Mary's Catholic church, with Rev. Fr. Rudden officiating. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Phannenstill cf 90S N. Allen avenue, McHenry, and the groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Dixon of 1019 W. Rt. 120, also McHenry. The altar of the church was decorated for the 2 o'clock service with bouquets of pink and red gladioli. Given in marriage by her father, the charming and petite bride walked down the aisle wearing a peau de soie taffeta, chapel length gown, styled with sculptured neckline, fitted bodice and long, pointed sleeves. Alencon lace, pearls and iridescent sequins highlighted the bodice, the full skirt and the floating back *,panel. A pearl and borealis crown held her imported illusion, bouffant veil. Miss Phannenstill carried a crescent shaped bouquet. Attending her were Mrs. Ruth Granger, her sister, as matron of honor; Jean Phannenstill and Jane Phannenstill, sisters, and Mary Ann Dillon, a friend, all of McHenry, as bridesmaids. They wore white taffeta, floor length gowns with matching bow half hats featuring flattering maline bouffant veils. They carried fans with pink and red carnations. Her flower girl, small Kelly Granger, niece of the bride, wore a gown identical to that of the adult attendants. Wayne Dixon served his brother as best man and groomsmen were Donald Dixon, another brother, David Granger, brother- in-law of the bride, and Richard Phannenstill, her brother.
