Tor those who receive their papers on Wednesday, evening-, there is an open Little League meeting at the community house. We hope everyone is all set for the Little Le-'.^ue dance which is to be hekl at the VFW on Sept. 11, at 9. Women's Club Meeting On Thursday, Sept. 2, the Lakefand Park Woman's club wi'l begin its fall season and we ho, e we will see a lot of new fac os as well as the old. Deepest Sympathy Our deepest sympathy goes to Rose Schiddell on the death of her husband, William, which occurred last week while they were vacationing in Montana. Funeral services were hekl M( nday, with burial in the Irving Park cemetery. Pam Laursen went to see the Beatle concert on Friday with her Aunt Jill and has recovered nicely. Also making the scene was Lynn Giacomo and her girl friend. Judy, Gale and Joyce Mazzoni are returning home after 3 weeks spent between aunt Vicky Bbttari's and Grandma Italia Mazzoni. Among the spectators at the races at the Milwaukee State Fair on Sunday were Bill Eckhardt and friend, Robert Haug. They reported it to be the highlight of a grand summer vacation. Helen Kraskiewicz had surgery at Harvard hospital last week and is coming along nicely. Our get-well wishes are sent along. Pied Piper, Gloria Flannigan, was in command of a horde of children at an amusement park in Addison last Thursday. Besides Kris, John and Kelly Flannigan were Debbie Gladman, Terri, Carol and Eddie Funk and Pam Laursen who joined the crowd for the day of fun. We hear they had quite a train ride. Patty, Robbie, Billy and Janet Lawrence are spending the week with Uncle John Flannigan while heir Mom and Dad are vacationing. Mickey Gladman entertained the Saturday night regulars wih an evening of cards and chatter. Present were Wilma Atkinson, Gayle Laursen, Rose Dolenski and Sue Funk. Jim Duffy, Ed Gladman and Bob Laursen shuffled the cards with Guenther Dolenski and poined the ladies at Gladmans' for a light repast after the card sessions were over. Gloria Flannigan a tended a bridal shower in Chicago after getting niece, Patty Lawrence, on board her plane for Denver. Get-well wishes go to Fran Di Blasi's dad who is a patient at Northwest hospial. Hope his surgery puts him back in good shape. Marion Winkowski is also on the ailing list, being a patient at McHenry hospital. The Kamp family with Jaek- .ie Laursen, went on a campout from Friday to Sunday at Timber Lake. For the Indian affair they were joined by Lil and. Mike Druml, Kay, Ed, Dennis and Kevin Druml. Also taking in the pageant Were Kitty and George Hendle and sons, John and Marty, and George's folks. Kitty and Georg£ Hendle celebrated George's birthday by having dinner out and atending the stock car races. Then on Sunday, the two want into the city to pick up their sons,' Johnnie and Marty, at their grandparents' home. Upon their arrival George was guest of honor for a surprise birthday party given by his folks. We are happy to hear there was nothing more serious than smoke damage occurring from the fire at the Chas. Fernstrom home recently. Last Saturday evening, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Abbott, Mr. and Mrs. Valentino, and Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Hagemann attended an anniversary party at the William DeVries home in McHenry in honor of the fiftieth wedding anniversary of his folks, Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph DeVries. We want to extend our best wishes and congratulations on this happy occasion which was Aug. 19, to this very nice couple. Visiting the DeVries for the weekend to be on hand for the celebration were their son and family from Playfield, a sub division of Chicago. Meg Humann spent the week at Grandma Humann's in Chi cago to celebrate her birthday a little ahead of schedule. The Humanns also went to an amusement park in 'Addison on Friday and had a ball. They met old friends iji the popcorn line whom they hadn't seen for 4 years. Sunday they went on a trip to Lake Geneva with friends, Phil and Marge Johnson, for fishing, boating, swimming, eating and collapsing at the end of the day. The Bill Perry family is back home after spending the summer-- s4^_Gpeeley, Colo, where Bill was attending Colorado State college. T a m m y L e o n e c e l e b r a t e d her sixth birthday a week ago Saturday with av big party. Happy birthday, Tammy. Cathy Mueller celebrated her eighth birthday on the 20th of August with a party in her honor. Helping, her celebrate were Debbie Schaedel, Kathy Harper, Judy Revak, Shirley Meurer, Debbie and Wendy Mueller. Cake, ice cream, koolaide and candy bars were served to the girls. Another natal day which was celebrated last Friday was, Billy Burman's eighth birthday. Those attending were Dave Wickenkanmp, Clark and Jeff Bierman, Chris Rogers. Ronnie Rebel, Pat Stanek, Bob Jenkens, Dave Burman, Angie Burman, Kathy and Michel Burman and Danny Johnson. A combined birthday party was held on Sunday to celebrate Billy's and Kathy's natal days at the Burman home. Broasted chicken was served to about twenty people, grandmas, grandpas, aunts, uncles and cousins. Jody Osmon was a bridesmaid at her uncle's wedding last Saturday, in Gurnee. A belated anniversary wish goes to Ev and Jay Osmon who celebrated on Aug. 13. The Hagemanns had a very busy week which began on Tuesday when the Charles Weber family from Elgin, the Harold Olsons from Streamwood and Mrs. Emma Olson from Chicago enjoyed a steak cook-out at noon and pizza in the evening. The weather man co-operated and provided a beautiful day. Sunday guests were Mabel Klug, Ted Granger and Mildred Kissinger of Chicago, also, Irving, Dorothy, Kenneth and Karen Belau from Chicago and Mr. and Mrs. H. Stahlecker and granddaughter, Connie, from Woodstock. McHenry Area Youth Represent County At Illinois State Fair Special Deadline Next Week Next week I will have two deadlines to meet, the regular one on Monday, and the holiday deadline on Friday. It would be nice to have lots of phone calls next week to help me out. The only way I can put in about your activities is to hear from you so how about a call, at 385-4356. Community House Schedule Jo Rizzo has very few reservations yet from the different organizations which usually start up in the fall. Lost One Correspondent It's with regret that I have to announce that Kay Druml has had to give up writing the column with me. I enjoyed working with Kay very much and will miss her help, and also the use of her typewriter. Skiing did not become popular in U.S. until the chair lift was developed. At seven o'clock on the morning of Thursday, Aug. 12, 15 girls and 2 chaperones met at the Farm Bureau building prepared to leave for the Illinois State Fair. Upon arrival at the fairg r o u n d s , t h e g i r l s w e r e checked into the dormitory, where they stayed with several hundred girls and chaperones. At 1:30 Thursday, the girls representing the county in clothing reported to clothing classes which are held each afternoon until 5 and each morning at 7. Good grooming, carriage, modeling, accessorizing, and plans for the all-important Dress Revue were discussed. The dress revue for the group of countries of which McHenry county is a part was held Saturday afternoon, Aug. 14. The following girls were selected by judges to attend: D e b o r a h B r a d y , H a r v a r d ; Marsha Hemmingsen, Union; Mary Jo McCullough, Harvard; Nancy Kane, Richmond; Jane Richardson, Spring Grove; Pat Ryan, Harvard; Mary Lee Wright, Wonder Lake and Pearl Ann Schoenberger Woodstock. Five girls represented the county in foods demonstrations. This is another important area in 4-H training. The following girls attended the foods demonstration classes: Mary Alice Pihl & Connie Davidson, Pamela Pagles & Pat McCullough, Harvard, & Kathy Diane, Cary. Julie Tappan and Caryn Keil attended the flower arranging classes. Julie created four arrangments which were jud^d by a well qualified and recognized jurist. On Friday, Aug. 13, Kathv Pope of Harvard represented McHenry county as an M. C. for the Share-The-Fun performances. Donna Schmelzer and Michael Marchese, both of McHenry, represented McHenry county 4-Her's ift the public speaking contest.
