Section Three -- Page One WONDER LAKE NEWS 1 HART LOU HARTOG C, _ SU-717* TWO NIECES OF LOCAL RESIDENTS KILLED IN TEXAS - We were very sorry to learn that two nieces of Mr. and Mrs. Ted Liacas of Oak Road were killed in a head on collision with a truck in Houston, Texas, last week. The girls were aged 14 and 21. A third sister, aged 19, was critically injured and is hospitalized in Houston. She is not expected to survive. All three girls are daughters of Mrs. IJacas' sister. One son survives in "the family. Mr. and Mrs. Liacas went to Kankakee where the funerals were held. House-Garden Walk This weekend, Friday, Aug. 27 and Saturday, Aug. 28, will be the House-Garden Walk sponsored by the Girl Scouts. Four homes will be open for inspection from 2 a.m. to 3 p.m. Luncheon will be served at the George Rink home. The visitors may start at any one. The home of the twelve Ruggeros was designed by the doctor, credit for the interior decoration goes to Mary. The plan is contemporary and functioned, expressly suited to the needs of the ten children and the habit patterns of the family. She writes me her sister is her chaperone. On their way back they will spend a few days in New York. ANNIVERSARIES Bill and Nelda Rowland celebrated their seventh anniversary with a steak dinner in Antioch. Bill is presently attending summer camp with the Army Reserves at Camp McCoy, Wis. He is Chaplain to the 307th Civil Affairs Group on this tour. Bill has had a busy Bummer, also having completed an eight week student teaching course at Waukegan township high school and three semester hours of graduate work from Northern Illinois University. Chuck and Bernice Morgan also celebrated their twentythird wedding anniversary last week. They observed the day by beginning a vacation trip in the south with their two daughters. NEW BABY Celien Sima had a visit from the stork Friday 13, a beautifull baby boy. 7 lbs. 12 oz. They flamed him David Paul and both are in the best of health. NEWS BRIEFS The Albert Weises had a birthday party for their nephew, Phillip Carlson, from Milwaukee. There were fifteen people for dinner. Jess Dare's sister and husband, Mr. and Mrs. B. Langford, came up from Russellville, Ark., to pick up- their son, John Lee, who has been vacationing and working up here for a couple of months. They decided to spend a few days with the Dares before returning home. Mr. and Mrs. P r o k o p ' s daughter, Marilyn, is spending the week with them. Edward Schneider has finally arrived home from a long stay at St. Therese hospital. Although he is still in a cast and will be for a couple of months, he is mighty happy to be back to Sunnyside and his faithful wife. Mr. and Mrs. Prell spent the weekend up in Twin Lakes, Wis., where they indulged in some swimming with the little Prells - Kurt, Laurie, and Charmine. There was a big celebration at the Joe Metzger's Sunday. A combination of a farewell and birthday get-together. Mr. and Mrs. Rudy Bradatzsh and four children, Rickey, Robert, Conrad and Margaret, also Mr. Bradatzsh's mother who is leaving for her home in Germany in the near future, were present. Irma's brother, A d o 1 p h Kuch, from Chicago spent a week out here fishing. He said he made a better catch this time than ever before. -- some big bass. Charles, Dotty and Mama treated uncle Adolph to several dinners at their favorite restaurants. Irma's welcome mat is always out for her brother as he has been a lot of help and company to the family. Mr. and Mrs. Koffski attended a twenty-fifth anniversary party at the V.F.W. in Mc- Henry in honor of their dear friends, Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Taylor, of Streamwood. There has been a big improvement in our neighborhood in the past couple of weeks. The rains came and brightened up all the gfass, trees, gardens, and flowers. And most of the weeds were cut down -- believe me it sure makes a difference in the appearance of our Village. Mr. and Mrs. Harrison had a very large crowd at their house last week -- in fact" there were sixty-one people. This affair was in honor of Mr. Harrison's co-workers and also some of the neighbors attended. Mrs. Nikrin and Mrs. Gaylord took a drive up to Milwaukee to visit both of their sisters who were mighty happy to have them. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Cammarata and son, Larry, attended a picnic at Fullerton woods in Elmwood Park. They saw all of their old friends whom they hadn't seen for quite awhile. winj for boys and one for girls which lead off the kitchen-recreation area. It is the kitchen-laundry area, the heart of the home, which should prove interesting to most h o u s ewives. The downstairs area is the indoor play area for the family and consists of a den TV room and recreation room. Girls on Vacation Four lovely young ladies--two from Wonder Lake and two from McHenry -- left last week for a week's vacation. Cathy Pedersen, Vicki McCall, Betty Danko and Paulette Gute drove to Devil's Lake, Wis., where they rented a cottage for a, week. If they have sill the fun they planned on having they should have stars in their eyes when they return. While there they also hope to make a trip t<J the Wisconsin Dells. Home from Abroad A goodly group waited at O' H a r e A i r p o r t l a s t F r i d a y night to welcome home Betty Lamont and her son, Sam, Jr., and daughter, Heather, who returned from a seven week vacation in Scotland and Ireland. Young Sam also celebrated his birthday on the return trip. I have not seen any of them yet but I know they had a wonderful time and will have enough conversation material to 1 a s t them for months and eveff years to come. I'm sure Sam, Sr., is happy to have his family home again. Welcome home to all three of you and hope to see you soon. Weekend Visitors Mr. and Mrs. Jack Yegge spent the weekend in Waukesha, Wis., where they visited Mr. and Mrs. Robert Vaupell. While they were gone their young son, Jeff, stayed with his paternal grandparents in McHenry. Mr. Yegge returned last Thursday from a business trip through the East. EXPLORER POST WINS RIBBONS About 125 Explorers and Senior Girl Scouts took part i n t h e e l e v e n t h a n n u a l R o c k River regatta last Saturday at the Hawthorne Hills Estate, on the western edge of Rockford. The events included four categories of canoe events, four of land events and four swimming events. The five boys who represented Post 145 showed their daring by coming back with three ribbons for their effort. A blue ribbon was won by Mike Burke in the one man canoe race, a second place red ribbon*, counted by the best three scores of each team, was won by the five boys on the team who repsented this post. A third place yellow ribbon was won in the over and under swimming event, w h e r e t w o s w i m m e r s m u s t swim the length of the course, where one must be under the water and one on top, exchanging when necessary, sounds like a wild one!! Jim Ruggero and Chris Rasmiissen were the two who won in this event. All the boys participated in as many events as possible and plan on trying again next year. The boys who took an active part were J i m R u g g e r o , M i k e B u r k e , Chris Rasmussen, Tom Walkington, and Bill Wines. An evening barbeque concluded the regatta following a fun swim for all. ATTEND CHURCH SUNDAY Shift Workshop Fpr t County Ag. Teachers | The University of Illinois Agronomy department's soil coring machine will be the main attraction at the McHenry county soils workshop for vocational agriculture teachers. The workshop will be held Aug. 26. Extension Soils Specialist Ed Runge, Dr. Roger Courson, and the area SCS soil specialist will conduct the soil sampling and training sessions. Ten different sites in the county will be visited to collect v soil samples and to give the teachers practical experience in judging the land use1 associated with each soil type.
