Section Two -- Page One THE McHENRY PLAINDEALER Thursday, September 2, 1965 H ROTARY FRIENDS" AT WORK I* ; . U " , ilil'j'pl JLach year the Rot'arians of McHenry take the children of the Woodstock Children's Home on a picnic. This year it was held at Berry Land, Wonder Lake. Pictured supervising the children as they frolic in the pool are Arthur "Torchy" Krause, left, and Larry' Lund, right, both of McHenry. This is but a part of the "Rotary Friends of the Children" program which has been carried on for several years. Besides this annual picnic, members of Rotary become the "friend" of one or more of the children, They send them birthday cards and gifts, give them Christmas presents, occasionally visit them and sometimes take the children to their homes for meals and overnight visits. The young residents of the homes in Woodstock are as excited over a visit from a McHenry Rotarian as from one of their relatives. When they see them coming or happen to see them on the street they exclaim with emotion and enthusiasm, "Here comes my Rotary friend." The Moreni oil fields, Roumania, has a fire that has burned for 559 years, defying all of man's ^efforts to put it out.
