Walter Reynolds and Board Members Absher, Baer, Esbrook and Keiner were named as a committee to develop a plan to create more pier and boat-docking facilities for members at the Hickory Falls park: The objective is to double the existing 30 boat spaces now available, and which are inadequate to meet the needs of all boaters in the subdivision. Bixby was named chairman of a committee to be appointed, to review and recommend changes in rules and regulations covering use of the beach, park and boat-launching facilities. • At the annual meeting Aug. 8, the membership voted a special assessment to pay for resurfacing all subdivision roads, expected to cost $3,050. Each lot will be assessed a prorata share. Walter Walitzer, past road and park commissioner under whose administration-the resurfacing project was started, indicated to the new board members that the work was scheduled to begin in September. The membership also voted on a motion at the annual meeting to increase subdivision dues by 50 percent, an improved lot from $10 to $15, unimproved lot from $4 to $6, and an operating business lot from $20 to $30 per year. The board, acting on a membership vote, authorized treasurer Absher to send a check for $30 to the Wonder Lake Property Owners advisory board as a donation to help that organisation defray administration expenses, and named Bixby as the delegate, and Dr. Sidney B. BUFFALO BACK The buffalo are back on the Illinois prairie, Milton D. Thompson, director of the Illinois State Museum, Springfield, said in announcing the opening of a new exhibit, "Grand Prairie." The great bull buffalo, a cow and her calf lead the herd onto an undisturbed moraine of the Illinois prairie of the 18th Century. A profusion of prairie flowers and tall grasses, as described - by early explorers and pioneer settlers, are depicted in the display. The season is middle to late summer. According to Thompson, there is no longer even one square mile of the Virgin prairie shown so graphically in the display. Today Illinois is the land of corn and soybeans. The East Room of the White House was used as a recreation center and loafing room by soldiers during the Civil War - so much so that all furnishings had to be replaced. BE WISE -- USE CLASSIFIEDS! Metropolitan Stadium in Minneapolis, Minn., normally the home of the TWins baseball team, was transformed into a giant convention hall for the Aug. 12 to 15 event. Dominick Fontana, presiding minister in the vicinity, headed the local delegation. Describing the assembly, he said, "Jehovah's Witnesses were present from thirty-three states, Canada, Centra] and South America, and Lebanon. Attendance climbed to 20,893 on the final day." According to Fontana, the convention was one in a series of sixteen midsummer regional conventions held by Jehovah s Witnesses throughout the United States this summer.' The purpose of the gathering, he said, was to hear laymanlanguage Bible discussions and demonstrations on advanced Bible subjects so all in attendance could increase theii ministerial effectiveness. - "On the second day of |he assembly, a total of 268 persons were baptized at the beautiful Lake Nokomis main beach in Minneapolis. This was merely a public act symbolizing their prior dedication to serve Jehovah God," Fontana emphasized.
