Schmitt, who have been spending the summer, in McHenry, left Wednesday of last week for their winter home in St. Petersburg, Fla. Miss Theresa Hettermann has returned to her work in Chicago after spending several days with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Hettermann, recovering from surgery which she underwent at the McHenry hospital. The William German family of Delphos, Ohio were weekend guests of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Blake. Mrs. Gertrude Vogt of Los Angeles, Calif., who has been visiting relatives in this vicinity, was a giiest of her aunt, Mrs, Louis Stoffel, and visited other relatives here last Thursday. The Harry Friiik family has moved from 4218 W.Ponca street Cooney Heights, to 2413 Wv Country Lane, Eastwood Manor. The place they have vacated is being occupied by the new owners, the Alfred Dietrich family, who have moved from a place near Wonder Lake. Mrs. Robert Conway was a gWest of relatives, in Rockford, a- few days last week. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Patzke and children were guests of his mother, Mrs. Pearl Patzke, and grandmother, Mrs. Martha Feltz, over the Labor Day weekend. On Sunday an enjoyable family get-together was held at the Feltz home with fifty folks present from Elgin, Cary, Wonder Lake, Crystal Lake, Woodstock, Grayslake and McHenry. Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Stapleton, daughter, Susan, and Mrs. Harriet Stapleton, of Grand Rapids, Mich., were entertained in the home of Mrs. Helen Dobyns over the Labor Day holidays. Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Montgomery of Warren, Ohio, were guests on Wed. and Saturday visitors were Mr. and Mrs. John Barron* and children of Arlington Heights. 114 members of the Stephen H. Freund family from Sharon, Wis., Waukegan, Crystal Lake and McHenry enjoyed their annual get-together at the city park, on Labor Day, when plenty of eats, various games and reminiscing made up an enjoyable day. David Geride, who is serving with the Army in Oklahoma, was home for a weekend visit with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Gende. Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Martin were Sunday dinner guests in the home of Mrs. Chester Beck and daughter, Mrs. Grant McDonald, in Grystfll Lake. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Schoewer were in Waukegan, Tuesday, where the latter attended a luncheon and card party. Members of Riverview camp R.N.A. were hostesses at the monthly meeting of the McHenry County Past Oracles Club, held at K of C hall Tuesday, Sept. 7, with folks present from Algonquin, Crystal Lake, Woodstock, Gumee and Fox River Valley Camp. The October meeting will be held in Crystal Lake. Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Phannenstill and family have returned from Lake Gogebic, Mich., where they spent the summer. Mr. and Mrs. Preston Harris have moved from the upper apartment of the Mrs. Henry Weber home, on Riverside Drive, to the Mrs. Lena Bohr home on N. Court street which they have purchased. The Alvin Phannenstill family and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Dixon were in Evanston, Sunday to help Mr. and Mrs. Richard Antonson celebrate their first wedding anniversary. Mr. and Mrs. Phannenstill were in Grayslake that evening to attend the wake of Robert Rosing at the Strang funeral home. Henry Smith has returned from a bus trip to Paris, 111., where he visited friends he hadn't seen in 50 years. For many years Mr. Smith operated a farm in that vicinity. Among those who attended the wake or funeral of Mrs. Anna Anglese in Morrison were her son and family, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Anglese and daughter, Kathleen; Miss Nellie Doherty, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Doherty, Mrs. A.D. Foley, Mrs. John Bolger, Miss Genevieve Knox and Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Conway. Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Smith, sons, Don and Joey, and the former's mother, Mrs. Rena Smith, visited Richard Smith in Naperville, Sunday, where he is a freshman in North Central college. Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Melsek of Ft. Meyers, Fla., former local residents, are visiting relatives and friends in McHenry. Mr. and Mrs. Alford Johnston and daughter, Arlette, accompanied Jill Johnston to Normal, 111., last Saturday, where the latter enrolled as a freshman at Illinois State university. Arlette Johnston, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alford Johnston, returned recently from a visit with her aunt in Scotsdale, Ariz. The enjoyable twoweek trip took her to many points of interest in the state. NEW BIRTHDAY CALENDAR WILL BENEFIT CORPS The coitimunity birthday calendar is a new project sponsored by the parents of the Viscount drum and bugle corps. It promises to be interesting and informative, with everyone in the community having an opportunity to have his name printed and the date on Which his birthday falls. Sponsors promise, however, that it won't tell how "young" you are. It is even possible that the anniversary date of married couples may be shown. A large picture of the corps in full dress will be featured on the calendar. The meeting dates of various organizations and other Special event dates will be listed. These handsome illustrated calendars are a value far exceeding their modest costs and all proceeds beyond the expense of printing go to furnish a new parade shirt for each member of Viscounts. The new corps director, Ernie Zimny, said "New shirts are badly needed at this time to keep the corps looking as sharp as we want them to look." Viscount parents will invite friends, neighbors and relatives to, list the birthdays of members of their families on this new community calendar. Committee members will also contact clubs, churches and other groups to list meetings or other special event dates, or you may contact Martin H. Ehlen. They are Mr. and Mrs. Walter M. Smith of 3515 N. Riverside drive and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Smith of 2120 W. Church street. Although they have the same name, the Smiths are not related. The celebration will take place on Sunday, Sept. 26, at the Johnsburg Community club hall, where a buffet supper will be served between 5:30 and 7:30 o'clock, to be followed by dancing. Friends and relatives are invited to attend. Vivian Reinboldt of McHenry and Walter M. Smith of Johnsburg were married in St. John the Baptist church on Sept. 28, 1940. Their attendants, all of whom are expected to attend the anniversary celebratioh, are Mrs. Norbert Smith, Mrs. William Meyers, Mrs. Anthony Appelt of Wadsworth, Vernon Reinboldt and Fred Smith of Des- Plaines. One weighed 6 lbs., 3 oz., and the other weighed 7 lbs. They have been named Darrin James and Dion Lee. The young lady weighed 7 lbs., 8 ozs. MISS BIXBY HOSPITALIZED Miss Laura B i x b y, 19, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James L. Bixby of Wonder Lake, was believed to have shown slight improvement at Sherman hospital, Elgin, late Tuesday night. The young Eastern Illinois university sophomore was rushed to Sherman hospital by ambulance Monday morning after lapsing into a deep coma. Miss Bixby became 111, suffering from a virus, while taking part in the water ski show at the Dells, Wis., early in the month. She was hospitalized at Charleston last week and her condition became worse on Monday. Laura was reported to have moved, although still unconscious, Tuesday night. TWO FAMILIES ARE HOSTS TO TRAVEL GROUP Two McHenry families, Mr. and Mrs. Peter M. Jus ten, their son, Dan Justen, and Mr. and Mrs. Alex Justen, were hosts recently for the ninth annual reunion of a travel group with whom the two Mrs. Justens spent the 1956 summer in Europe. Saturday's activities were centered at a nearby motel where a dinner for twenty members of the group was held. Among Sunday's entertainments were a brunch at McHenry Country Club and an afternoon cruise on the Fox river. " . , Guests at the reunion were Mr. and Mrs. John S. At a farewell breakfast on Monday morning, plans for next year's gathering, tentatively set for Colorado, were discussed. Legion Enjoys Sunday Picnic The McHenry American Le gion Post, No. 491, enjoyed a picnic on its home grounds last Sunday for all members and their families. Shuttle bus service was provided to the proposed new building site on Ringvvood road. Approximately 200 members and their families visited the site and ex pressed much enthusiasm for the property. The picnic began at 10 a.m. and was concluded about 7:30 in the evening after the large group had consumed 500 hot do^s and sixteen cases of pop, among other items. There were games and prizes for the younger set. Mrs. Jerome Miller of Spring Grove and Alfred Smith of New Munster, Wis. The Charles Smiths also have three children, James, 24, serving in the Army in New Jersey, Dennis, 19, and Ricky, 11, at home. Benefit For Volo Cemetery A buffet supper will be served and a card party enjoyed at tha Volo school house on ,Friday, Sep . 17, for the benefit of the Volo cemetery. Serving will start at 5 p.m., with ajl home baked foods served. ; A table of vegetables, fruits and flowers will be on display, and items will be for sale. Priz?s will be given for card and bunco games. Surprise Party for J. F. Nthllls Mr. and Mrs. John F. Nihill, Sr., of 3216 Golf View Terrace, McHenry, celebrated their fortieth wedding anniversary at a surprise party given in their honor on Saturday, Sept. 11, at a Dundee restaurant.
