October 21, 1965 THE McHENttT PLAINDEALEH Paths Of History Recalled On Bus Tour Of Woman's Club F o r t y - o n e m e m b e r s a n d guests of the McHenry Womans' ^ club enjoyed a bus trip to historic Galena on Tuesday, Oct. 12. The foilage had taken on its autumnal dress and the woods were veritable tapestries of red, gold and bronze. The fall splendor of Indian summer was a panorama of vivid color enjoyed by all. Several focal points of interest highlighted the tour of this unusual pro-civil war town. A sumptuous buffet luncheon at one of the city's fine restaurants, with its collection of rare Galena pottery, and decorative antiques, will be a memoriable part of the visit. On Thursday, Oct. 28th, a card party and tour of a famous kitchen has been planned by the McHenry Woman's club. A dessert luncheon will be served at 1 p.m. The public is invited and reservations may be made with Mrs. Hugh Locker, president, by phoning 385-2300. The Community Methodist church will be the fioint of departure, meeting at ll a.m. Transportation will be provided for those in need of it. Anyone desirous of participating in the tour, but not playing cards, or visa versa, may feel free to do so. SUPER RESALE BENEFITS EASTER '65 SEAL PROGRAM The Easter Seal auxiliary of McHenry county is planning a 1965 project under the direction of Mrs. Edna Gould. The event, to be staged at the recreational building at Crystal Lake Nov. 4 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., is known as a Super Resale and includes furnishings for the home as well as clothing for all members of the family. The chairman for the project is Mrs. Jack Williams of McHenry, with Mrs. Lynne Renne of Crystal Lake her co-chairman. Intake chairman is Mrs. Donald Swanson of McHenry. The resale is onefi to the public and will^^penefit the McHenry County^ Easter society which operates a physical therapy center in Woodstock under the direction of Robert Steffi. The center is for the benefit of both children and adults. Mrs. May Powers Has 90th Birthday Mrs. May Powers celebrated her ninetieth birthday anniversary Wednesday, Oct. 13, by visiting in the home of her brother, John Wall, in her former home town of Sycamore. She was accompanied by Mrs. George Larkin, Mrs. James Powers, Mrs. Donald Powers and daughter, Michelle: The previous Sunday she was guest of honor at a dirjner at the home of her daughter, Mrs. George Larkin, where she was presented with many gifts. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. James Powers and daughters, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Powers and children, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Powers and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. George Larkin, Miss Alice Gaulke and Mrs. Eveline Larkin of Woodstock. -P.er donalA -- Mr. and Mrs. Nick Nett of McHenry, accompanied by their son, George, of Chicago have returned from a three-week trip to Phoenix, where they viewed the Grand Canyon, Denver and New Mexico. They spent some time with the Netts' daughter Arlene (Mrs. John Scott) and family before starting the trip home. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Schoewer were in Waukegan Wednesday where she attended a Woman's Benefit Association luncheon and meeting. Mr. and Mrs. Byron Hitchens of Evergreen Park called on McHenry relatives and friends Sunday. Mesdames George J. Freund, Carl Freund, Ann Rodenkirch, Art Smith and Bernard Bauer of St. Clara's Court No. 659 of the W.C.O.F. attended a day of recollection at St. Joseph's church in Elgin last Thursday. The George E. Johnson family and Mrs. O. G. Eder of Arlington Heights and Mrs. Erie Geer of Crystal Lake were recent dinner guests in the George H. Johnson home. Freund HOMEMAKERS OF McHENRY TO MEET AT WALKER HOME The October meeting of; the McHenry Homemakers was held at the home of Dee Penick, with twelve members attending. Lois Ryan did an excellent job of conducting the lesson on "Clothes for the Mature Figure." Every member present had some comment to make in regard to the styles and material of clothing bought today. After being served a delicious lunch, the group conducted a business meeting with the new slate of officers. A big vote of thanks was given to Past Chairman Kay Mitchell for the splendid job she did while in office the past year. .The upcoming luncheon.that will be held at the McHenry Country club was discussed and the sale of tickets for this affair was very favorable. The next meeting of the McHenry unit will be held at the home of Jan Walker, new chairman, Nov. 2 at 10:30 a.m. at 4916 W. Rt. 120, McHenry. Anyone interested in attending this meeting as a guest is asked to call 385-2563 for further information. Other Births Mr. and Mrs. Frank Leon announce the birth of a son, James Francis, on Oct. 14 at Sherman hospital, Elgin. He weighed 7 lbs., 1 oz„ and has two brothers, Mark and Michael. Mrs. Leon is the former Joan Nimsgern, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Nimsgern. The paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Leon of Lakemoor. Section One -- Page Three COURT BRIEFS Appearing before Magistrate John Kaufman in branch court last Thursday, Doyne R. Mc- Mahon of Grayslake was fined $17 and $5 costs for speeding. James T. Allen of Chicago was lined $19 and $5 costs lor speeding. Speeding was also the charge made against Michael F. Ziesk of 2616 W. Emerald court, MeHenry, who paid $25 and $5 costs. Donald E. Rose of 348 Rand road, Lakemoor, was charged with having no operator's license and was fined $10 and $5 costs. Allen C. Rehorst of 8710 Rt. 173, Richmond, was fined $25 and $3 costs for reckless driving. RUMMAGE SALE The Woman's Society of Christian Service of the Ringwood Methodist church will hold its fall rummage sale on Friday, Oct. 22, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 23, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Hold Card Party At Spring Grove School On Thursday, Nov. 4, a card party will be held at the Spring Grove elementary school house at 8 p.m. Refreshments will be served. This event is sponsored by the Parent-Teacher association as- their fall fund-raising event. Ronald G. Nelson of 804 Friendly avenue, Lilymoor, was fined $10 and $25 costs for disorderly conduct. Emi! B. Rhoton of 719 S. Fischer, McHenry, paid $100 and costs amounting to $21.50 for driving while under the influence of liquor. Raymond F. Donati of 10703' Main street, Richmond, charged with unnecessary noise while driving, paid $10 and $5 costs. Robert Zahn - pf 806 W.
