The couple had originally planned to be married ^ next summer but those, plans / were changed when John received his induction papers, evetit as,Jthg' President's daughter and Pat Nugent of Waukegan tried to do. Enchanting as a story book doll was Nancy as she held her father's arm for the walk down the aisle of . Christ the King Catholic church, Wondet Lake, last Saturday afternoon. Stunningly beautiful also ^was her maid of honor, best chum IWary Beth Luto in a frock of deep, deep Forest green velvet. Other details of the wedding can be found on the society page of the Plaindealer. Friends and relatives met at McDonald's for .the reception'. The dining room was attractively trimmed with streamers of white crepe paper, with a huge wedding bell suspended from the center of the ceiling. A delicious buffet of assorted •hot meats, salads, baked beans, and other succulent dishes were attractively arranged on a large serving table. A beautiful four tiered wedding cake occupied a prominent spot on the bridal table. Seems quite in keeping with tradition to report that Mary Beth captured the bride's lovely bouquet of white roses in cascade, but how about the best man -- Bob Radosh (a real "baseball" pro) of Wonder Lake catching the bride's delicate blue garter! It was really touching to watch Phyllis and Dennis Straumann emerge from the church holding hands as they Remembered their own wedding day just a scant six years ago. We truly wish happiness and maturity for Nancy and John as they begin their married life with only the first (military duty) of many obstacles in their path. for "Ma" and "Pa" Schaefer who moved ta their present dwelling on koyte 31, 20! years ago. Resident's Brother Wounded - In Action With the very unhappy headlines of young men of doubtfuNcharacter and even more doubtful patriotism filling our readinje material, We are most proud ^roxwrite of others with courage abo^and beyond the call of duty. S:ueh a young man (21 this mbnth) is Pfc. Tames A. Ratem'iTiV Tom's younger brother who entered the Marine Corps in June, 1964, went to Japan and has been fighting with the First Division, 9th Marines in Viet Nam. He received a leg wound in action on Oct. 10 and js the recipient of the Purple Heart. In. addition to Carol and Tom, we comment the lad's parenK Mr. and Mrs. George Bateman. Sr., of Mundelein, for their contribution to his and his companies' morale. More Americans of this caliber, we need!!! Fond Memories Recalled As-Couple Celebrates 50 Years One of the greatest thrills of coming to McCullom Lake for a weekend two and three decades ago was stopping in at Schaefer's farm to pick up bread fresh from the oven, a chicken or two, and maybe a pie, for a special treat. Although Mr. and Mrs. Joe Schaefer were a part of the community for only 10 years, they left a strong imprint which has not dimmed with the passing years, and they are still so accessible! It is with a great deal of pleasure that we wish them they joy and happiness they deserve as they mark their golden wedding anniversary with an "open house", Sunday, Nov. 14, from 3 to 5 p.m. at American-Region home. The actual date is Nov. 17. Before the public festivities begin, there will be a family dinner at their home for members of the original wedding party still living. These include Mrs. Peter A. Freund, Mrs. A1 Weingart, Mrs. Joe Nimsgern, and Mrs. Frank Adams. Three are deceased. Serving as hosts are Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Schaefer and Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Miller, the couple's two children and spouses. They also have five grandchildren. Many wonderful surprises have been planned to make the occasion truly memorable Ladies of the Lake The gals will meet at 8 p.m. tonight (Thursday) in the beachhouse. Tickets are available from members of the club if you are interested ;n acquiring a turkey for Thanksgiving. There will be no Thanksgiving party this year. All women of the community are invited to attend. The deplorable state of Spring Road will get emergency treatment to make it passable for the winter season u»$- til it gets the proper treat\ ment in the spring. Seal coat-1 ing of this road, scheduled for summer 1966 (according to the original specifications) will eliminate most of the chuck holes which do occur, in spite of everything. Other necessary road repairs will be made, according to commissioner Harry Lock. A complaint made to health and welfare chairman John Boyle will be investigated and necessary action taken. The snow plowing contract submitted by McHenry Sand & Gravel Company was accepted by the board. The next meeting will be held Monday, Nov. 15, at 8 p.m. in the beachhouse. The public is invited. First Communicants The following children, second, grade students at St. Mary's school, made their first Holy Communion during 8 a.m. Mass, Sunday, Oct. 31. They include Rick Morris, Tammy Jensen, Diane Michels, Michael Nitz and Theresa Taylor. Father Baumhofer recited the Mass and distributed Communion. Last weekend w5s the kickoff for tickets for the ice fishing derby which is sponsored by the Cullom-Knoll association and will be held in February. Ken Betts, with his committee, Bill Gleeson, David Searbrough and Ed Crick are preparing for many weeks of concerted effort to insure the success of the venture. Monies realized from the derby will be used in the construction of a youth center at the beach. Tickets of admission may be obtained from any of the members and have also been placed i n t h e b u ' s i n c s s h o u s e s i n the village. A fantastic array of useful sports equipment is being offered to ,the public and co-operation of the part of everyone is necessary for success. Stork Stance When Emma Nelson came home from Sherman hospital, Elgin, following surgery on her foot, she began her- convalescence by spending a great deal of time in a sitting position and when circumstances required movement, she got around on crutches. , She also manged to hop around on one foot like the big bird from nursery rhymes. She has progressed beynnd that point and is wa'king with a very slight limp. Still hopes to wear shoes by Thanksgiving and she just MIGHT make it! More Schooling For Young: Sailor Naval air apprentice Tom Kane. 18 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Andy Kane reported to Imperial Beach Naval Air Station, Calif., for electronics schooling. INTRODUCE TOUCH TONE CALLING IN McHENRY DEC. 20 TOUCH-TONE calling will be introduced in McHenry on Dec. 20, Illinois Bell manager S. F. Jozwiak announced Wednesday. The optional new service will permit McHenry tefephone users to place calls by tapping buttons instead of turning a telephone dial. TOUCH-TONE * phonos have ten bui-t'ons instead of the conventional dial. Each button has its-own number and its own distinctive tone. When a button is pushed, the tone it produces is understood by telephone switching equipment which completes the call. "With TOUCH-TONE service most people will be able to tap out a number in less than half the time it takes them Jozwiak said. "This is becaus they will not have to turn a dial or wait while it. spins back." In preparation for the introduction of TOUCH-TONE service the McHenry dial tone will take on a new lower pitch cm Tuesday, Nov. 30. The new dial tone is necessary because the present dial tone woulcTirrr3r. fere with the TOUCH-TON^ signals. . V "The change in' dial tojie will have no effect en the operation of present'"1 tele, phones," Jozwiak said. Whether it's Hallowe'en, Mardi Gras, a Hawaiian luiiu CT a masquerade ball, almost everyone of every age enjoys wearing a costume. It makes us feel "different"... less restrained and more light-hearted. Perhaps it's a relief to leave our everyday self at home for a while. For many of us, that tired, worried, unhappy self is far from satisfactory but we seem to be stuck with it. Yet consider this. The burden of, self that we carry is unnecessary... and we have a standing invitation to lay it down! One of the joys of following Jesus is that we must 'leave self behind." There is no place in the Christian life for worry or woe, because the logical sequences of faith in God are contentment and serenity. Yes, the gloomiest pessimists become clear-visioned optimists when they are filled with the light that only God can give. Copyright 196SXiUlirAAmtUni Strict, he., StraJmrg, Va. THE CHURCH FOR ALL ALL FOR THE CHURCH "The Church is the greatest factor on earth for the building of character and good citizenship. It is a storehAse of spiritual values. Without a strong Church, neither democracy nor civilization can survive. There are four sound reasons why every person should attend servicts regularly and supixirt the Church. They are: (1) For his own s«ke. (2i Kor his children's sake. (3) For the sake of his community and nation. (4) For the sake of the Church itself, which needs his moral and material support.
