CITY AWARDS BID FOR ROAD CONSTRUCTION Following a bid opening at 11:30 a.m. Monday in the City Clerk's office, the City Council convened at 5:30 p.m. for a special meeting and approved the bid of Lakeland Construction Co., Inc. for road construction work on Waukegan road easterly from Green street. The improvement proposed is mainly under Motor Fuel Tax with participation by property owners to the extent of paying curb and gutter construction. This plan has been followed in other areas of the city. The low bid was in the total amount of $14,201.15. Zimmerman and Kahler, Inc. of Huntley submitted a bid in the amount of $15,198. A representative of the state highway department was present at the bid opening and the award is subject to the approval of contract by the state department. The extent of the work is now contingent upon payment if proportionate shares by property owners. It is hoped that construction can start very soon to complete curbing, gravel base and seal coat. The final surfacing will have to be completed next spring since the state does not approve this type of work at this time of year.
