SHOP IN McHENRY ADVENT SEASON \ RECALLS EARLY 1 HISTORY Of DAR At the beginning of this advent season it is important to remember that when the Daughters of the American Revolution was founded seventy- five years ago, it was a distinctly religious, as well as a patriotic organizaton. And so it has been through the years. When the cornerstone of the DAR headquarters in Washington, D.C. called Continental hall was laid, the first article placed in the copper box by a DAR representative was a Holy Bible which had belonged to a Revolutionary soldier. Each year a theme is chosen, from the Bible, This year it is from Corinthians: "Where the Spirit of the Lord is there is Liberty." At the Kishwajukee trail chapter meetings of DAR the regent, Mrs. Grant McDonald of Crystal Lake leads the group in the pledge of allegiance which includes "one nation under God". As chaplain, Mrs. John McConnell of Woodstock offers a prayer. COURT RULES ON ISSUANCE OF BUILDING PERMIT A building permit applied for last August was upheld last Monday when George Jedlicka, building officer for McHenry county, was directed to issue it to Peter Baker and Son, who had petitioned for the writ of mandamus. Judge William M. Carroll ruled against the defendants -- Jedlicka, A. Ernest Schroeder, L. Russell Beard, Howard E. Vogel, Walter Dean and G. Watson Lowe, members of the zoning committee of the county board of supervisors. The property is the Del Freund gravel pit on the north side of Rt. 120. west of Lilymoor. It will enable the petitioners to construct a foundation for an asphalt bathing plant and temporary yai>d for contractors plant required for highway construction. CARD TOURNAMENT The card tournament for members of Joyce Kilmer Court No. 573, Catholic Daughters of America was well attended at the first evening of cards Dec. 2. The tournament will continue until April 7, when winners will be announced. Our Servicemen Naval Aviation Officer tiandidate Thomas A. Creighton, son of Mrs. Helen S. Creighton of 1113 Rocky Beach road, McHenry, has completed the Aviation Mechanical Fundamentals School at the Naval Air Technical Training center, Memphis, Tenn. During the four-week course he was introduced to mathematics, physics and principles of electricity. He studied atomic structure>Jrtalic and dynamic electricity, magnetic theory, and the theory of construction of aircraft batteries.? ? This course prepares Navy and Marine Corps personnel for entrance into more advanced courses at the center. Pvt. Franklin M. Krumwiede, son of Mr. and Mrs. Franklin H. Krumwiede of Rt. 1, Harvard, formerly of Ringwood, was home on a fourteen day leave which he spent with his parents and friends. He entered the Army on Sept. 13, 1965, completed his basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., and reported there again on Dec. 3 to attend wire maintenance school. The young serviceman is a 1964 graduate of McHenry high school. Marine Private George C. Sorensen son of Mrs. Shirley Sorensen of 7216 Oak St., Wonder Lake, was graduated Dec. 4, from Marine recruit training at the Marine Corps Recruit depot, San Diego, Calif. He has been assigned to Camp Pendleton, Calif, for individual combat training and basic specialist training in his military occupational field.
