Your helpfulness and comforting expressions of sympathy will aways be remembered. David Reid and Family 12-30-65 With the start of a new year, and additional improvements planned in the McHenry public library, residents of the community are invited to pay a visit to the library. During the past year, nearly 50,000 books were loaned to readers. With such activity, it is gratifying to the board to note that less than one book was lost for every thousand loaned out, and these occurred almost entirely when borrowers move away and leave no forwarding address. In 1965, a complete survey was made of the library. As a result, a good start has been made in the reference book section. A total of $2,500 was spent to add much needed books which are being used each night by students preparing home work. Recently, the library board voted to make the facilities available to all who wish to use them. City residents pay a tax levy while non-residents may pay ten cents per book (five cents for children) or if they would prefer, five dollars per family a year. The McHenry library is the only one in the state to offer this flexible service. Many leading libraries charge a non-resident fee of from ten to twenty dollars a year. HURT IN CRASH Evan Gladstone, son of Dr. and Mrs. Lee Gladstone of McHenry, is recovering in McHenry hospital from injuries sustained in an auto accident in Nevada two weeks ago. He was enroute to Aspen, Colo., with a friend when the crash occurred. Evan sustains! a fractured arm and was accompanied home by his father early this week after a stay in a Nevada hospital. A recent survey of school children in one western city showed that 76 percent of pupils enrolled were born outside of the state. 0 Anyone as busy as Santa' hectic helpers can err occasionally.
