To join the LPPOA, just contact the clerk, Mrs. Edith Barwig, 1510 N. Ramble Rd. or 385-5244. f The Womans club's next project is a bake sale to be held in February. Watch the paper for tnore details later. Arient, Pam and Tod Stoltz and Jeff and Keith Stoltz and Kelly's brother John, and sister, Chris. My son, John, also celebrated his birthday last week, on Dec. 20. Debbie Benes, Shorty Burress and Michael Krasucki were all in on the celebration as well as John's sister, Shirley. Cupcakes and ice cream were served and the children enjoyed playing with the games John had received from his grandma, the day before. Hockey News ' Jan. 2 will be our first game Against McHenry at McHenry at 1:30 p.m. The game will either be played behind the Admiral building or at t he pOnd near Snug Harbor. This should be the team that will be hard to beat. Last year we won by the skin of our teeth !>y a score of 9 to 8. We hope that some of our friends and neighbors will go out to cheer the boys on. Brownies The Brownies had a nice day the Tuesday before Christmas to go out and do their carolling. We hope the homes along the route they took enjoyed their singing. They ended up at Shirley Meurer's home, chilled and hoarse and ready for their hot chocolate and cupcakes. It was really a pleasure for me to serve these girls and their leaders Mrs. Quast and Mrs. Schaedel. Their next meeting will be on Jan. 5 at the Regular time and place. Those attending that dinner as well as celebrating Christmas the day before were Mary Ann and Bob Cholewa and Debbie and Sandra, Rosalie and Stan Slonina and Karen, Judy and Mark, Pete and Bonnie Parisi and Dawn and Dean, and Stevie's dad, Joe, and brothers, Tony, and Joey, and his grandma alid grandpa Parisi and aunt Margaret. Another birthday celebration which took place last week was in honor of Kelly Flannigan who turned 7 on Dec. 21. Kelly's birthday party was in a Santa theme which was very logical. Those attending were Bfetty Ann Gerambio, Holly Community House Schedule . Please let Jo Rizzo know of any change of schedule. Monday, Jan. 3 Girl Scout meeting - 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Boy Scouts - 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 5 - Cub committee meeting, 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 6 - Woman's club meeting. 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 8 - Lakeland Park 4-H Club 9:30 to noon. Girl Scouts Our Girl Scout meeting opened with the pledge to the flag and our promise. After that we made our fathers' Christmas presents which were tie hangers. The girls that were absent the Monday before made their mothers a bottle of bubble bath. Last Thursday, Dec. 23, the girls went Christmas carolling, walking and carolling in the direction of the community house where they were to end up. The girls arrived wet and cold but spirits undampened. After drying off, we played games and exchanged grab bag gifts. Refreshments were served by the girls. These were homemade Christmas cookies and cupcakes. A good time was enjoyed by all. Sincerely yours, Nancy Matthews, Scribe. Get-Well Wishes Shirley George had an unhappy experience on Saturday when she was accidentally hit in the eye with a stick. I guess she was in considerable pain until she finally got hold of a doctor on Sunday and had a pressure pad put on it. Hope it heals real soon Shirley. Nickey Larson is suffering from an ear infection and a bad cold and had to go to the doctor's last Sunday. Hope he is feeling better real soon. Haven't noticed whether Bob Kroening has his cast off yet but hope his arm is better. Gloria Vanek's hand is out of her cast and she was finally able to get some of her Christmas work done. Very frustrating to be off work and not able to do anything. Cub Scouts The Cub Scouts annual Christmas party was held last Tuesday evening with a nice crowd turning out. The evening's entertainment consisted of singing Christmas carols, with each den singing their favorite song, and the parents joining them in some others. R e f r e s h m e n t s w e r e t h e n served. Unless some father comes forward and volunteers to be Cub Master it looks like our Cub Pack will have to be disbanded. Please, won't someone take . over. These boys need your help. Boy Scouts The beginning of the year has started the troop off with a big band. The plans for a whole new set of activities are being formed now. The boys are waiting for their chances for hikes, camps and other activities. In the last meeting the Scouts used their muscles when a boy brought weights. Keep practicing and you will be a Hercules, A s. *lJou ^KnM OW omeone / lew ^/own, The Welcome Wagon Representative would like to call on them and extend a welcome to the community. We did not fine it., but we got very good leads for the scoutmaster to go on. All the Scouts hoped he found it. If not, any Round Lake Beach residents please keep your eyes open for a small grey poodle. One last thing is that all the boys should bring registration and insurance money to the next meeting. Respectfully submitted, Billy Eckhardt, scribe. Strolling Through The Park Lloyd and Ann Dawson renewed old acquaintances recently when they attended a twenty-fifth year reunion of old friends from their old neighborhood where they grew up and attended school. People came from Wisconsin, Indiana and all over Illinois to attend. To help with identification everyone wore a name tag. More than 450 people were served dinner and danced to the music of a Latin American band. A terrific way to end the old year. Frank Dawson was able to be home with his family for the first time in two years. He returned from Okinawa in November and has been stationed at Mac Dill Air Force Base at Tampa, Fla. The weather really cooperated to make this a white Christmas for him. Lucky fellow going South. He will be leaving again just after the New Year. The B o 11 a r i s entertained Vickey's folks, Mr. and Mrs. Mazzoni, and Len's parents. Mr. and Mrs. S. Bottari of West Shore Beach, and Mr. and Mrs. Emil Bottari on Christmas day cozy from the big white outdoors. The Oakford children enjoyed a hectic holiday with their cousins and aunts and uncles and Grandfather, John Oakford, Sr., who came on Christmas morning. Duke and Connie Grondy and children, Marilyn McCullough and daughter, Pat, and Eileen and Pete Paulsen and Cindy celebrated the birth of Christ with the Oakford family. On Sunday Mr. and Mrs. Arvey Anderson and children came for dinner and a day of sledding and snowballs. Rosemary Haase and children, Bob, Jim, Carol Ann, Rosemary and Stevie came on Monday to enjoy the holiday. The Murphy family went to Mary's mother's home in Chicago to spend Christmas. Mrs. Carey enjoyed the best Christmas in years with all her sons and daughters together for the first time in a lortg time. PR0FEfficn=: 3ICECT0RV EARL R. WALSH INSUMNCE Fire, Auto, Farm & Life Ins. Green St. McHenry, I1L Several of the children from the subdivision took part in the services held at Shepherd of the Hills. Beth Okal played her horn at the Christmas eve service, and Bruce Okal took the part of Joseph in the pageant. Also in the live nativity scene was Jim Hansen. Another member of the cast was a real live Circus donkey w ho had the honor of transporting Mary to Bethlehem. Hope that Sandy Dawson has licked the flu bug by now. The ol' debbil struck on Christmas eve and kept up for a good part of the week. Some Vacation. Jim Kujak was able to get Christmas leave to be with his folks on Christmas, and then returned to Ft. Knox, Ky., where he is stationed. Don Harris left Wednesday for Long Beach, Calif, where he is scheduled for seven months of shore duty before starting Electronics school in July. He just graduated from boot camp at San Diego. , Also home from boot camp in San Diego is Ray Franklin who is on his way to San Francisco where he will be attending Electronics school for the next 38 weeks. Another of the boys who enlisted together in the Navy is Ed Schultz who surprised his folks at two in the morning a couple of days early. He has been assigned to the Flagship, U.S.S. Mt. McKinley which is based at San Diego. AH the sparkle around the subdivision isn't from the ice and snow, a good amount of it comes from Carol Ann Franklin who will be married on January 8 at St. Patrick's Church to Donald Lincoln of the Peoria area. Also anticipating the wedding bells are Richard Reining and Elyse Garland, - neighbors on Rogers Avenue who will be married on January 8. Best wishes to all of them in their new lives. Dorothy Rehberg received a diamond ring from her intended, Edwin Heims of Wonder Lake. They are making plans for a February wedding. Get-well wishes to Cissie Gray who spent a short time in McHenry hospital for tests after Christmas. Among the residents who braved the storm to celebrate the Christmas holidays were Shirley Koch and children who went to her parents for turkey dinner. Good thing they got there as Shirl had all the fixins but the turkey. On Sunday, Max's sister, Tiny, and Bill Brewer and kids and his brother, Mr. and Mrs. William Koch, and family came for ham buffet. The Rehberg family spent Christmas eve at Gordie's home in Eastwood Manor with their three grandsons. On Christmas Day they had dinner with their neighbors, Bill and Marian Moser. Also taking part in the festivities were Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Patoux and daughter, Vera. They also spent the evening with Mr. and Mrs. John Heims of Wonder Lake, Dorothy's future in-laws. Sounds like a hectic weekend with mom suffering from no voice after all the parties. Kenneth Owens, who formerly lived on Beach Avenue and has moved to McHenry, was home on leave for the holidays. He is with the Army and stationed at Ft. Carson, Colo. Ron and Jackie Creutz celebrated a little late with all their relatives around the area. The loud noises you hear on Pleasant Avenue come from Tom's new drum from Grandma Creutz! A Sour Note With all the men of good cheer who abound at Christmas time it strikes a sour note to have to report on the activities of the youhg Scrooges who also seem to be in evidence. The golden rule seems to be missing from their training programs when they include acts of vandalism in ltheir schedules. So many people have gone to so much work and expense to decorate^ their homes for the holidays just to have some little pip. squeek come along and steal, the light bulbs. In one in-» stance it wasn't enough to" merely remove the bulbs t but it was deemed necessary--to*- trample them and to wreck Jtha whole lighting system. Bah Humbug! Seems that our modern day Ebenezer Scrooges could use a touch of the Ghosts' of Christmas to give them a little of the proper outlook on life. Maybe a little old-fashion:' ed wood shed treatment is all that's needed. Orchids Orchids to all the un-sung heroes who worked on Christmas to keep the roads open and to restore the power $0 that we could enjoy the holiday. Among these were Frank Hromec, Ron Creutz, Max Koch and Harry Wohlert, and many, many more. Read the Classifieds ZION EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH (Missouri Synod) 4206 W. FOR THE CHURCH The Church is the greatest factor on earth for the building of character and good citizenship. It is a storehouse of spiritual values. Without a strong Church, neither democracy nor civilization can survive. There are four sound reasons why every person should attend services regularly and support the Church. They are: (1) For his own sake. (2) For his children's sake. (3) For the sake of his community and nation. (4) For the sake of the Church itself, which needs his moral and material support. Plan to go to church regularly and read your Bibl* daily* What has happened to this marvelous world of ours in this twentieth century of God's grace? Mankind seems to be passing through a sea of troubles which has no counterpart in human history. There are wars and rumors of wars among the nations, and many of the nations themselves are split into warring factions, each faction striving for supremacy, and each intolerant of the views, hopes, and lights of others. The great trouble with the world is that men have forgotten God. They no longer seek spiritual guidance, but follow the vain ways of the modern world. We have become a cynical, materialistic generation. If this drift toward world tragedy and chaos is ever stopped, the churches of the world must do it. The world's hope -- our hope -- is in God and His Church. He alone can save mankind from a sorrowful fate. The Church seeks to turn the hearts of men from the ways of war and fear and hate to the ways of peace and lOVe. Copyright 1966 Keittrr Advertising Strvict, Ime., Stratburg, Va.
