The P.T.A, will present James E. Pearson as guest speaker for the evening, >his topic, "Art in Society". Mr. Pearson holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Education, a Master of Science degree in Education and Master of Fine Arts degree from Northern Illinois university. Mr. Pearson has recently written "Travel Broadens" for the Chicago Tribune and "Art in Chicago", for the Chicago Daily News. He is presently occupied as the Art Instructor for the Woodstock Community high school, day and night classes. He makes his home in Ringwood. Mr. Pearson will present his Views on art today as a functional and a practical part of the complex life. The men of ^business, industry and comiherce, the/engineers, industrial designers, the city planners, the homemakers and men and women in all walks of life now look to art as a significant phase of all their activities. Streamlined cars, airplanes, modern buildings of all kinds, bridges, parks, household furnishings, books, clothing and even gardens are all being transformed through art as irfflch as through science to meet continually rising standards of living. ' 4 - FINE AHl-S GUILD DISCLOSES PLANS FOR YEAR AHEAD, The women's guild of the Woodstock Fine Arts association ig looking forward to another year of achievement under the leadership of Mrs. Charles Wright, p r e 's i dent; Mrs. Kenneth V. Fiske, vicepresident, Mrs.. Dan Cameron, secretary; and Mrs. Jos. Rosulek, treasurer. Membership is the first big project of the year and an invitation is extended to anyone .^ie c°unty interested in participating in the guild's exciting program. The membership committee consists of Mrs. Lewis Aiello, Mrs. Richard Babcoek, -Mrs. Kenneth V. Fiske, Mrs. Frank HPWard, Jr., and Mrs. Albert Blaseovich, chairman. Workers are needed in the above listed committees. The guild was organized to expand the varied and active program of the Woodstock Fine Arts association and it has done this with its Creative Living series which include programs on architecture, archaeology," drama, folklore, poetry and literature. The guild plans to develop and execute a plan for the harmonious restoration of the Woodstock Opera House and to increase the public awareness of the potentialities of this historic building which is unique in this part of the country. Believng that the arts and sciences are essential to a full life, the guild takes pleasure in presenting on Jan. 27 a high point in the Creative Living s e r i e s, when Gwendolyn Brooks, Pulitzer Prize winning poetess, will be featured reading her poetry at the Opera House. The program will start at 10 a.m. and tickets may be purchased at the door. Men as well as women will be welcome. High School PTA Tp Sponsor Record Hop The McHenry High Schpol P.T.A. will sponsor a teen record hop, the first event of its 1966 activities. On Saturday, Jan. 8, the McHenry Warriors will clash with the Geneva high basketball team in a home game. The record hop will "roll", immediately following the game, in the McHenry high school cafeterftf." Refreshments will be served. Proceeds from the dance will be added to the scholarship loan fund.
