The award was made at last Sunday evening's father-daughter banquet of the Junior Legion auxiliary. More than 100 persons attending enjoyed community singing led by Mr. and Mrs. Ed Guettler. Among their "chorus" were the five Guettler daughters and their "adopted" daughter, Mercure, foreign exchange student from Viet Nam who is living with the Guettler family this year. STATE REGENT TO ADDRESS DAR COUNTY MEETING The guest of honor at the March 28 meeting of the Kishwaukee Trail chapter of DAR, which will be held at the home of Mrs. John K. Tornow, 1011 Rose street, Woodstock, will be the state regent of the Illinois organization, NSDAR, Mrs. Richard H. Thompson, Jr. Mrs. Thompson was born in Muncie, Ind., and received a bachelor's degree at Columbia university. She has taught music and art in several high schools and colleges. As an under- graduate student at Northwestern she used her artistic talent in illustrating the school publications, "Purple Parrot" and "Syllabus". Her water color paintings have been exhibited in numerous shows and galleries. She has traveled widely throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, Europe, Africa and the Near East. Mrs. Thompson has served the DAR with ability and distinction ;n various capacities. With such a background, her utalk on "New Trends in DAR" is eagerly anticipated by DAR members and guests. RITA WEYLAND PLANS LEADIN LOCAL THEATRE Rita Weyland, well known McHenry actress, will be recreating her hilarious lead characterization of the teetotalling spinster, Miss Skillon, who falls off the wagon in the production of "See How They Run" at the Twilight Ridge Playhouse, Rt. 31, Crystal Lake. Mrs. Weyland portrayed the old maid who drinks not wisely but too much, eight years ago in the Crystal Lake Players production of the same play So vivid was her characterization, the present director, J.J. Butler, who incidentally directed the previous presentation, contacted Mrs. Weyland personally, and asked if she would do the role again. The show f opened Friday, March 18, and ' continues each Friday and Saturday evenings at 8:30 p.m. through April 2. PROPOSED SCHOOL EXPANSION IS TOPIC OF PTA The Johnsburg P.T.A. monthly meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 29, at 8 p.m. in the public school gymnasium. The election of the nominating committee will be conducted by the president, Richard Morley. A discussion on the proposed expansion of the educational facilities of District 12, including dual enrollment, will be presented by the Citizens. Informational council of St. John's parochial and Johnsurg public schools. Mrs: Louise Worzala and Jerry 01- sen of the publicity committee are speakers for the evening. WINS SCHOLARSHIP Lakeland Park C'lnb Holds Spring Party The Lakeland Park Woman's club is sponsoring a spring luncheon and card party to be held on Wednesday, March 30, at the American Legion home in McHenry. Serving time will be 11:30 a.m. A salad bar with ham roll-ups will be featured. Following the luncheon, those wishing to play cards may do so. There will be table prizes for each table as well as special prlzfes. Tickets may be obtained from club members or may be purchased at the door. DAMAGE SUIT A $50,000 damage suit has been opened before a jury, brought by George Northcott of Downers Grove against the McHenry Country club. The suit results from an alleged fall by Northcott on the club property in 1964. FINE ARTS GUILD PRESENTS UNUSUAL MARCH PROGRAM On Thursday, March 24, at 10 a.m., Stuart Struever will show his pictures of "Buried Kaskackia" at the Opera House in Woodstock. The program is being sponsored by the Women's guild of the Fine Arts association. Tickets are available at the door. "Buried Kaskaskia" begins centuries, even thousands of years ago when civilizations grew, flourished, and disappeared. They wrote nothing down, leaving no trace except for the items of their daily life-tools, ornaments, villages and cemeteries left behind. O v e r t h e c e n t u r i e s t h e s e collapsed into the earth and wore covered, sometimes houses built over them, corn "planted in them, or highways dug through them. Now, men have begun to search out these ruins, recovering the bits of evidence which pieced togetheis^ive a picture of life in early times. These men are "archaeologists", and Stuart Struever is one of them. We will repeat his morning program at 1 p.m. for the benefit of students. It will be open to aduits, but Creative Living ticket holders will attend the morning performance. Luncheon will be served following the morning meeting. PAUL'S "Why I Am an Episcopalian" is the topic next week at St. Paul's Episcopal church, McHenry. Fr. John Taylor of St. Andrew's, Grayslake, will be the speaker at 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 24. Fr. Taylor attended public schools in Indiana and received his bachelor of science degree in business administration at Indiana university. He did graduate work at the university's law school and later attended the College of Preachers at National Episcopal Cathedral, Washington, D.C. The pastor is president of the standing committee of the diocese of Chicago and is a convert to the E p i s c opal church. He is married and has two children attending Northwestern university and Indiana university. The public is invited to attend this meeting, the Jast of four representing the Methodist, Catholic and Presbyterian churches of McHenry. Coffee will be served following Fr. Taylor's talk. Fine Program Awaits Club SORORITY OFFICER Trudy Fre,und, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald M. Freund, 3017 West Crescent avenue, McHenry, was recently elected treasurer of Beta Iota Chapter of Alpha Gamma Delta social sorority at Eastern Illinois university. Miss Freund is a sophomore physics major and mathematics and German minor at Eastern. Her activities include Student Senate, Mathematics club, Physics club, Glee club and Academic Affairs committee. Due to the regular meeting date conflicting with Good Friday, the monthly meeting is scheduled a week earlier. Adelightful treat is in store for club members as musical entertainment will be provided by "The Tri-A-Tones," gifted members of the local organization - namely, Mrs. D. Allyn Hopfear, Mrs. Clarence Keim and Mrs. Hugh Locker.. .Better known in the entertainment field as "Jeanne Randolph," Mrs. Hopfear began her musical career as a pianist in Chicago. She subsequently studied the pipe organ and played in theaters during the era of 'the silent movies. When the "talkies" came into being she became interested in the electric organ and demonstrated for an organ company. Since that time1 Jeanne has played the better restaurants and night clubs. Irene Keim is well known in the Chicagoland area for her beautiful singing voice. Having studied vocal music in Chicago. she has performed in opera and musical comedy throughout the mid-west. She has entertained for various clubs and has been one of the leading soloists in the McHenry Choral club for eight years. Irene is currently the soloist at the Science church. Eleanor LeFeber Locker, a native of Wauwatosa, Wis., obtained her degree in music and art at the University of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. She supervised the music and art departments in Williams Bay and in Cedarburg ,Wis., and played violin with the Madison Civic symphony. Among other accomplishments she directed the Marquette Medical school choir for a year and the St. Matthews Lutheran church choir in Wauwautosa, Wis. for several years. In the local area Eleanor directed the Crystal Lake Woman's club "Choralaires" for several years, giving as many" as eleven performances during a season. She also conducted the Presbyterian church choir in McHenry for several years. Currently Eleanor is a member of the McHenry County Chamber Music society. Accompanying both Mrs. Locker and Mrs. Keim will be Julia Benoy Landmark of Madison, Wis., also a native of Wauwatosa. Mrs. Landmark is accompanist for the Philharmonic chorus of Madison and organist for the Bethel Temple, as well as the Westminster Presbyterian church, which is the largest Presbyterian church in Madison. She is also director of music at the Wisconsin School for Girls in Oregon. Mrs. D. A. Hopfear, chairman of the Fine Arts division, will be chairman of the day, with Mrs. Harold Wildhagen, Ways and Means chairman, on hand as tea hostess. Church Johnsburg - McHenry St. John, the Baptist church in Johnsburg was the setting for a beautiful, early spring wedding on Saturday, March 19, when Miss Pamela Manke became the bride of Mr. Charles B. Caley, Jr. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Manke of 913 Matthews trail, Ingleside, and Mr. Caley is the son of the senior Caleys of 1707 W. Oakleaf, McHenry. Rev. Fr. John Dording officiated at the 3 o'clock nuptial rite for which Sister Celestia accompanied the children's choir. Two bouquets of white carnations decorated the altar. Pretty Miss1 Manke walked down the aisle wearing a white nylon dress styled with lace trim over the full, silk skirt, which extended into a chapel train. Her crystal crown was covered with tiered, elbow length veiling and she carried a cascade of white carnations and stephanotis. Sally Fuller of Round Lake acted as maid of honor for Miss Manke and bridesmaids were Sandra Garner and Kathleen Minahan of Ingleside and Cindy Knack of Lake Villa. All were attired in aqua satin, bellshaped skirts, street length, fashioned with elbow length sleeves and boat necklines. Their headpieces were aqua, flower clusters with blusher veils. They had round bouquets of aqua and white carnations. Debbie Caley. sister of the groom, acted as flower girl, wearing a white dacron and lace dress with aqua sash and headpiece. The ring bearer was David Noah. Mrs. Manke selected a pink sheath dress of nylon trimmed with lace and had matching accessories and a white rose corsage. Mrs. Caley wore an ice blue dress with lace jacket, matching accessories and a similar corsage. A reception for 300 guests was held at 6:30 Saturday evening at the Johnsburg Community club hall, after which the couple left on a wedding trip. The newlyweds will make their home in Ingleside.
