This* action was taken at the board's recent meeting, announced H. F. Harrison of McHenry. board president.. Harrison said that a letter stating the board's position was delivered to the Woodstock City Council, which read, in part: "It is the opinion of this McHenry County Board of Realtors that a downtown location of the county court house should be maintained. Of equal if not greater importance is the basic reasoning which led3 to this conclusion. This can briefly be summarized as follows : "Woodstock, as county seat, is the representative city for all of the people who live in McHenry county. In addition, it is a desirable community inhabited by public spirited citizens whose properties, commercial as well as residential, generally display pride of ownership. "The commercial properties surrounding the "square" and the older residential properties in reasonably close proximity to it do not suffer from lack of utility just because of age. The revitalization of this section, along with acquisition of the entire block upon which the Court House Annex is located, would serve the needs of the people of McHenry county for many years to come. "In contrast, the relocation to the proposed site west of the present corporate limits of Woodstock would, in our opinion, result in an excessive burden upon the taxpayers of McHenry county and of the city of Woodstock. It would also inevitably be the cause of diminishing property values in existing commercial and "close*- in" residential areas which Ultimately would result in a change of the character of tjie entire community. We. do believe that this type of cjaangewould be beneficial." 4 The McHenry County Board of Realtors membership-list includes the most prominent real estae brokers doing business in McHenry county, x) t h eT officers for 1966 are Donald C. Tappan, vice - president, and Donald Killeen, secretary - treasurer. % PROOF FORDO UILTTO LAST! YOUNG FOLKS With so much being said about our teen-agers, it made me wonder, because I have never seen one. I don't think there are any teen-agers. I know lovely children, young boys and girls, and then comes the 14, 15, and 16 year-olds. They are the young ladies and gentlemen who "are the hope for the future good citizens of our country. They are all potentially good until some adult spoils them. Most of them are millionaires of cheerfulness, and they make their neighborhood a better place to live in. These young folks want to be noticed and if they cannot get it they resort to destruction and doing things they will always regret just to get attention. I have worked with young people of every age, but have yet to find one who did not respond to kind treatment and respect. I am not condoning the conduct of those who have committed vandalism but hope some suggestion will help in the future. Whatever we do, let us drop the word "TEENAGER" from our American vocabulary and refer to them as our "YOUNG PEOPLE." Respectfully, Mrs. C. Goodell ATTEND CHURCH SUNDAY Q.
