THEATRE GROUP WILLCONDUCT TALENT SEARCH "I On April 23, between the hours of 1 and 4, the McHenry theatre will be the scene of auditions being conducted by Ann Varese and Company,"Inc., in their quest for new talent. The auditions will be only the first step before a talent show, which will be held on the stage of the theatre on May 7, between features. The program Will be reminiscent of vaudeville days, since it is hoped that all budding performers, and retired performers, will take part ill this sAow. Singers, dancers, Magicians, ventriloquists, dance combos, comedians, and any other performer who feels that lie or she can entertain, are lisked to audition for this talent show. . ?, A group of judges will be on Hand at the theatre on May 7 tp chose the top three acts of the evening. These three acts Will then accompany the regular performers of the theatre group to the Great Lakes Naval hospital to do some entertaining for the servicemen recently returned from Viet Nam. •- Lou Consago, theatre owner, has given a helping hand to Some of the youngsters in the area who have formed dance Bands. They have performed on die stage, between features, and have been very well received by audiences. Since this talent search will be a direct benefit to the hospitalized servicemen at Great Lakes, there will be no extra charge for the entertainment on stage that evening. There is only one stipulation considered and that is the age limit of 16 years for performers, since hospital regulations do exist which would not permit younger persons participating in a program at Great Lakes. VANDALISM, THEFT UNDER INVESTIGATION Break-ins, vandalism and thefts were recorded in sufficient numbers to keep police busy this past week throughout the county. Property damage was reported at Hilltop school, Lincoln road, McHenry, where entry was made by breaking a window. Only a few small items were missing, although desks were ramsacked. Other property damage was being investigated in the McHenry area, but no large items were missing. Four moon-shaped hub caps were stolen from a 1963 car parked in the Buss Ford parking lot during the night of April 4. A. For EASTER!! V ARE YOU? . . . SEE OUR PARADE OF FASHIONS . . DRESSES... This invaluable book focuses upon Stevenson, the public man, the man with whom history will be concerned. A forceful and penetrating narrative, it performs the essential service of separating the man from the legend. For example: We learn here how sporadic and meager was the out-of-state coverage, of Stevenson's administration as Governor of Illinois. Then reading the record, we learn how remarkable that administration was. Thus, doubts are raised as to the absolute validity of the cliche which stipulates that he was a greater candidate than he would have been a President. Many of the passages of his greatest speeches are here, in their original context of time and place. Thus, they regain a pertinence and power that Automatic oven is like having a maim RS-35K, 30" electric, 3 colors or whits. • Frigidalre Cook-Master oven control starts/cooks/ stops automatically at times you select c wide Evenovers makes big* Ineal cooking a "picnic." o Removable storage drawer* A WEEK AFTER SMALL DOWN PAYMENT LEE & RAY ELECTRIC 1005 N. "Thomas" by Shelley Mydans The brilliant life and notorious murder of Thomas Becket, one" of the most complex religious and political figures a wily diplomat and ruthless erfully recreated in this distinguished novel. As chancellor to the young King Henry H, Thomas Becket became the second most powerful man in all England, a wily diplomat an ruthless soldier. So far, he was successful in all he did. His true testing came when Henry, hoping through his chancellor to "ontrol the church, maneuvered Ijis election to the See of Canterbury. Now Thomas was forced to choose between church and state, between the orthodox Christian religion in which he believed and the slow dying Old Religion which still influenced his king. His choice for the church led him into bitter quarrels with Henry, into exile, to his return, and the murder which he foresaw. Shelley Mydans started the research for this novel when she was living in London nearly ten years ago. She has revisited all of the places where Becket lived and continued her research in the extensive medieval accounts of his life. "Mission With LeMay" .. by General Curtis E. Lemay, with MacKinlay Kantor . For some thirty years the name of Curtis E. Le May has been synonymous with our breath-taking, life-taking and life-giving, development of military aviation. But only a few people know the keen, devoted, imaginative man -behind his uniform's facadb. They know that he worked contin iously at his task as a fourstar general, on active duty, longer than any other four-star, general in our history. They may have heard that as a boyish lieutenant he was lead navigator on the first mass intercontinental flight of bombers ever flown. And the repercussions. of Air Force Chief of Staff LeMayV testimony before a congressional committee, setting forth his belief in a mixed weapons system rather than a slavish reliance on missiles, are still echoing in the Capital. "Mission with LeMay" is exactly that. The reader will go the whole journey with the outstanding airman of our time. No one could be better ej quipped than MacKinlay •Kantor, noted author and the general's, close friend, to help tell the. story of Curt LeMay's life.
