At a recent McHenry County Fair board meeting, plan« were approved vto have a full Sunday evening grandstand program of local talent. Auditions for the program will be conducted by Tahimeus and a committee of judges, probably during the first two days of the fair on a stage set up in the center aisle of Massey hall. In 1965 there were a total of twenty-nine singles; and groups who auditioned, from which ten were selected to appear on the Saturday nieht program. Firs* prize was $75; second was 550; t h i r t j , $ 2 5 ; f o u r t h , $ 1 5 ; a n d fifth was $10. Each of the ten who appeared on the Saturday night program receive $10 for auditioning. Detail^ have not yet been completed but are expected to be similar to the 1965 arrangements. Mr. and Mrs.^Dean Leonard and daughters, Calinda and Jennifer, were chosen "Family of the Year" at the Methodist chUrch last Sunday evening at Family Night. At a Family Night sponsor-- ; ,ed by the Community Methodist church Sunday evening, May 1, the family of the year was announced. They are Mr. .and Mrs. Dean Leonard and daughters, Calinda and Jennifer. They were selected by members and friends of the church. Mr. Leonard served last year as chairman of the Commission on Membership and Evangelism and this year has served as chairman of the Pastoral Relations committee and is teaching the adult Bible class. Mrs. Leonard is chairman of the Commission on Missions, and is serving as secretary of membership cultivation for the Woman's Society of Christian Service, and is a member of the official board of the church. Other features of the Family Night program included supper, group singing led by Mrs. Ernest C. Carder; a film, "A Better World Begins With Me", shown to the group, and Mr. and Mrs. Gene Negley and family leading family devotions. The Commission on Education, under the leadership of Ldn H. J. Smith, was in charge of the eyening. This jvas a part of the church's observance of National Family Christian Week. The latter wil1 begin on June 13 and consist of three one-month sessions in classroom work.'. School will be in session daily, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. until 12:15, the first semester extending to July 8 and the second starting July 11. All fees must be paid beforo a student is eligible to attend class, with a five dollar deposit at the time of registration. A nominal test book rental fee also will be charged. One unit of credit may be earned in summer school, but a student may choose to take only one-half credit. Registration began this week in the high school office. Courses to be offered are English I, II and III; American History, Typing I, Developmental Reading, Gen eral Mathematics, Driver Education, Sociology, General Science and Social Studies. All subjects will be taught both semesters. Since more students have indicated they wish to take Driver Education that the school can accommodate, only students within the school district are eligible. ' Phone 883-0855 Open Hospital Addition Soon The expansion program of McHenry hospital, for which ground was broken in Septem bet of 1964, is in the final stages qf completion today, it was announced by Anthony Corcoran, hospital admiinistra tor. McHenry hospital opened its doors in 1956 with twentythree beds and no maternity f a c i l i t i e s . I n 1 9 G 1 , t h e f i r s t stage of expansion was completed with the addition o eighteen more beds, including a maternity section, adminis tration offices, dining room etc., bringing the patient bed total to forty-one. With the pa tient load increasing steadily over the years, and with an occupancy ratio consistently over 90 percent (ratio of beds filled to total beds available) when the operational norm is 80 per cent, it was necessary to launch another expansion drive in 1964 to again increase the patient bed capacity. The new three-story hospital addition which will open very soon, will increase the hospital's bed capacity to 137, and transform the hospital into orogressive patient care facil ity.
