A note of encouragement came from another who was well known in earlier club days, Gretta Goodell. Memory couldn't fail to take long time members back to fhe club presidents who contributed so greatly through their leadership--among them Clifford^ Kiehl, Tom Russell, Le- Rojk Hiller and the present Jjead, Ray Jensen, whose talent and energy accounts for special stage settings. A fly nostalgic thoughts would hardly be complete without noting-- the appearance of many original members. Ruth (Klodzirwki) Klein of Chicago and Sylvia (Snyder) Mitchell and her husband. George Mitchell, of Elkhorn, Wis., (who met in the club 25 years ago) were seen" reminiscing with the Gerald. .Millers and Carl Webers of IVIcHenry, also among the club's first singers. A quick glance at the scrap book revealed that a featured ensemble of the March, 1941, concert--Roy Redwanz, Ruth Klein and Norbert Mauch (only original member still singing with the group) were present at the weekend program, but failed to volunteer a song. It was quite evident that twenty-five years --or some part of this time--have brought t<i_most of us much more than we have given in the pursuit Of a hobby. * A quarter of a century is a lengthy span, but the most de- Voted members vow it marks pnfy,. a long and important tlmpter in a -musical book for ^hich they hope the closing songs arc long in the future. Jjm Perkins, a sixty-year resident of McHenry, died this freek in Waukegan, and his passing wai mourned " by hundreds in this community. In back are Arthur Mukwaya of Uganda and Daniele Marioni of Argentina; and in front are Fairot Khunon of Thailand, Mercury Do of South Viet Nam and Katsumi Komeiji of Japan. Five young foreign exchange students who are attending schools in this area spent last Thursday in McHenry, becoming acquainted wjith the local high school and with the community in general. The five were Arthur Mukw& ya of Uganda, attending Woodstock high school: Daniele. Marioni of Argentina, a studeht at Q?ry Grove; Pfirot KhUnon of Thailand, attending Crystal Lake; Mercury Do of South Viet Nam, attending McHenry high school: and Kitsun)! Komeiji of Japan, who is enrolled this year at Grayslake. / After a busy day which included luncheon as guests of the Rotary club and an appearance before the entire student body, tlie A.F.S. students met with other M.C.H.S. students and interested residents of McHenry for a pot-luck supper and a pleasant, informal evening in the school cafeteria. Probably the most interesting conversations throughout the day centered on comparisons of their home countries With the United States and the misconceptions of both the visiting students and Americans concerning the other's country. The young Uganda student said he found many of his newly made friends with incorrect ideas concerning living conditions in his native land. The young man from Argentina expressed surprise to ,find so many frame houses in. .the United States, adding that in his native country most of them are brick and there tends to be class distinction judged by home construction material. GRANT FRANCHISE TO IMPROVE TV PICTURE IN CITY (Continued from Page 1) of water and sewer facilities and projected needs in the city, the engineering firm of Baxter and Woodman pointed out •'the need for increasing the cost of permits to connect with city services. While the council did. not see fit to increase to the full amount recommended, an amendment was passed which will set sewer connections for residential areas at $150, commercial $175 and industrial $200. The cost of operating the plant has dictat ed the change. It has been pointed out that city service is much cheaper than installation of private septic systems.
