ATTEND CHURCH SUNDAY McHenry Hospital Auxiliary News McHenry hospital has received official approval to take part in the Medicare program, Anthony Corcoran, administrator announced this past week. Next step, completed this week, is for the hospital to return form agreements to the department of health, education and welfare. Corcoran received notice that McHenry hospital meets requirements for participation from Fred B Wolf, department of health, education and welfare. "We expect an initial impact as Medicare goes into effect July 1," observed Corcoran. "The medical staff feels some older patients wno require elective hospitalizatiqn may be holding off until July 1. "After the initial rush, we expect the patient load to stabilize but of course we <fon't know long-range effects yet." Corcoran said a check of patient admittances over the past 12 months shbws that about 25 per cent of them would have been eligible for help under Medicare. The length of patient stay may increase. It has been about seven days on the average but under Medicare some experts feel patients may average ten to eleven days in the hospital. Doctors and hospitals will be working even more closely together. .With more elderly patients in the hospitals, it will be natural for doctors to have more need to headquarter more closely at the hospital. Medicare will pay for patients who qualify. A person must be sick and need hospitalization in order to be admitted for care under Medicare provisions. McHenry hospital has established a utilization committee in accordance with the law to coordinate the Medicare program.
