Lynn received a ceritficatp and an award from Governor Otto Kerner in Springfield. Police Superintendent William H. Morris, in announcing the award, said Lynn was credited with saving the life of McHehry Courity Deputy Don Madsen last Oct. 5. The incident occurred when Lynn was dispatched to the scene of a robbery at 4917 McCullom Lake Road in the village of McCullom Lake. .Enrout6 he received further advice that a shooting had taken place. Upon arrival he found two wounded deputies bleeding profusely, one of them having subdued the subject. Both were wounded in the legs from blasts from a shotgun. Lynn immediately applied tourniquets and stopped the bleeding of McHenry County Deputy Don Madsen's leg. His quick thinking and proper handling were adjudged by the American Red Cross to be worthy of their Certificate of Merit, their highest award. COURT BRIEFS In Branch 3 court presided by Judge John Kaufman Thursday, June 30, Edward F. Scheiner, 8819 Pine avenue, Wonder Lake, was tried and found guilty of improper lane usage and was fined $15 and $5 costs. Rowan Miaton, Jr., 102 Vernon drive, Lilymoor; pleaded guilty to speeding and was assessed 'a- fine of $12 afld $5 costs. Pleading guilty to disobeyed traffic signal WendeTl D. Mill Lane, McHenry, was charged $20 and $5 costs on a plea of guilty to speeding. Dean M. Glosson, 5402 W. Rt. 120, entered a plea of guilty to unnecessary noise and was fined $10 and $5 costs. On another charge of not having a license in his possession he p.-rid a fine of $15 and $5 costs. A plea of guilty to disobeying a stop sign cost Regan C. Kufeldt, 23 Covington, Fox I^ake, $10 and $5 costs. Ronald M. Shearer, 613 Red Wing drive, Round Lake, pleaded guilty to speeding and was assessed $11 and $5 costs. On a plea of guilty of driving while intoxicated Elsie Neumann. 603 So. Emerald drive, was fined $100 and $5 costs. Bethel R. Barnett, 2308 Country Lane, McHenry, pleaded guilty to failure to signal when turning left and received a fine of $10 and $5 costs. Thomas P. Carroll, 1716 Knoll avenue, Lakeland Park, pleaded guilty to operation of vehicle without evidence of registration and was fined $10 and $5 -costs. Ask Zoning Change For Walsh Property A petition has been filed for the McHenry State bank, executor for the ^ late Elizabeth Walsh, ahd the 'McHertry Courity Association for Retarded Children, requesting conditional use classification for* property located on Barreville road. The hearing will be held Wednesday, July 20, at 2 p. m.in the council chambers in Crystal Lake. COMPLETE COURSE Ronald C. Adams of Buss Ford Sales, 3936 W. Floyd Cannon announces the opening of offices in the Pries building for the general practice of medicine and surgery. Dr. Cannon is a graduate of the University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada, and also from the Northwestern Medical school of Chicago. Husk O'Hara's orchestra und^£ the direction of Johnny Constatine comes to the Fox pavilion on July 14. On July 1, 1926, occurred a change in <jthe personnel of the West McHenry State bank, when Parker S. Webster succeeded Carl W. Stenger as president and Gerald J. Carey became a new vice-president and gneral manager of the financial institution. Miss Villa Rothermel has been promoted to the position of chief operator at the local e x c h a n g e t o s u c c e e d M i s s Adele Heimer who was recently married. The hotels were filled to capacity over the busy Fourth of July holidays. William Martin, reporter on the Plaindealer, is laid up this week with an infected foot, a light case of blood poisoning. After a continued illness of two years, Mary Bonslett, daughter of William and Mary Bonslett, passed away at St. Joseph's hospital, Aurora, June 30, 1926. Another change of ownership establishments took place when in ohe of McHenry's business the tailor shop and cleaning business of Joseph Dittrich on Green street , in Centerville, was purchased by Robert Duda of Fox Lake. Mrs. C. W. Klontz very pleasantly entertained a number of ladies from Richmond at a onethirty o'clock luncheon at her home on Waukegan street. Pretty baskets of garden and wild flowers adorned the tables and various corners of their delightful home. Their recovering from injuries recar was in a collision while the Thorsells were returning to Volo after attending a ball game in Chicago. Memberships in the twelve American Legion posts in Mc- Henry County reached a new all time high this year. Reported last week to Commander Ray Page of McHenry is the large total of 840 members. At the mighty age of eighty years Peter J. Doherty, exmayor of the city of McHenry, and a life long resident here, passed away in St. Anthony's hospital in Chicago June 28. Mrs. Charles S. Lasch left this week for Hampton, Va., where she will visit Mr. and Mrs. Ivon White and daughters, Dana and Christie. Mrs. Lasch will help little Christie celebrate her first birthday. Mr. and Mrs. Joseph N. Mill ler, who have made their home for many years on Pearl street left this week for Turtle Lake, Wis.,^*vhere they will make their permanefit home. Mr. and Mrs. Folleth, who managed a shoe store on Main street, West McHenry, have moved from the Popp^. building where they had their shoe store to the Engeln building on Riverside Drive. Ground has been broken for a new home which is being erected by Dr. R .G. Chamberlin in the Wattles subdivision. Ten Years Ago (Taken from the files of June 28, 1906) Mr. and Mrs. James McAndrews and Mr. and Mrs. Gail Shannon and families spent a few days at Rosholt, Wis., where they attended the wedding of the sister of Mrs. Mc- Andrews and Mrs. Shannon. Miss Catherine M. Freund, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph E. Freund of Johnsburg, became the bride of Mr. John H. Wirtz, son of Mr. and Mrs. Anthony J. Wirtz, in a beautiful service solemnized June 20 at St. John's church, Johnsburg. Rev. Fr. Raymond Hettermann, uncle of the bride, officiated. Henry C. (Clay) Hughes died in his farm home in Greenwood township June 25, following an illness of several months. He was a McHenry resident for many years. Members of McHenry's prize winning saxophone trio, which appeared last spring on a Chicago Amateur hour, will return on a program of winners. Members included Kenneth Sawdo, Audrey Tonyan, Gerald Dowe and Terry Lishamer. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Lawson are the parents of twins, a boy arid a girl, born , last week. Miss Gail Brefeld, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Brefeld, a college student, has been engaged as life guard at, the local beach and is on duty from noon to four each day.
