As many children try following the truck, they 'cannot be seen by the driver of the truck or by drivers of cars following the truck. We most certainly would hate to see any of our children hurt. Please keep this In mind the next time the truck comes along. Our Get-Well Wishes To: Bob Tucker who had some surgery, but is now home on the mend. [How ^Q. How can I remove candle grease that has dropped onto one of my good carpets? A. Scrape as much of the wax as possible off with a spoon. Then press the spot through a blotter with a warm Iron to absorb the remaining grease. Repeaj until all the residue has been removed, shifting the blotter from time to time to keep .a clean surface over the spot. Q. How can t eradicate small heat marks from the top of my dining room table? A. Try inverting a muffin tin over the marked area, then resting a hot iron on the pan for a few minutes. Q. How can I make a good thickening for soup? A. One way is with tapioca. Boil the tapioca until clear, then strain the liquid into your soup. Q. How can I prevent spotrings from forming on faeries when removing stains from them? A. By placing a felt-covered furniture floor cup under the spot while applying your cleaning fluid. This, in addition to preventng a ring from forming, also aids in preventing the fabric from slipping about while you're working on it. Q. Please suggest a good, efficient way of pressing a pair of men's washable trousers or slacks. A. One good, safe method is to cover the trousers with newspaper and then use your iron over this. In this way, there's no need to wait for the trousers to dry, because they haven't Veally been steamed. Q. How can I prevent paraffin from separating from the jelly glass? A. If the paraffin is too hot, it will tend to separate from the glass later. Heat it slowly and carefully, and don't allow it to reach the smoking stage. Q. Please suggest a few tips on the successful making of gravy. A. If your gravy is lumpy, beat it with an eggbeater until the lumps disappear. If your gravy does not brown as you would like it, add a tablespoon of strong coffee to it. And the addition of a tablespoon of cream to brown gravy gives it a delicious flavor, too. Q. How can I make the steps of my stepladder slip-proof, thus reducing the possibility of accidents? A. Apply a fresh coat of varnish to the steps and while it is still tacky, sprinkle coarse sand or sawdust over the steps. This will give you the non-slip traction you are seeking. Q. How can I promote longer life in my candles? A. Give them a coat of shellac. This tends to retain the molten wax around the wicks, instead of its running down the sides of the candle. Q. How can I remove shoeleather stains from a pair of light-colored hose? A. A tablespoonful of borax added to your washing water should help considerably. Q. How can I prepare some "super" bread sticks? A. Make these from frankfurter buns by quartering them lengthwise. .Spread .the .cut slices, on all sides, with soft butter or salad oil. Roll in minced parsley, chives, or grated Parmesan cheese. Bake at 425 dtgreea for five to -ten minutes. Other such cookery hints are contained in my new household-hints book. a s. you J(n\n ow omeone flew Jn Down? The sunflower towers taller than a man, its huge golden head filled with thousands of seeds . . • and every seed contains the mystery of life and growth that science cannot explain. We are surrounded by miracles that man did not create. Who created them? Who created us? By the reasoning powers of our own marvelous minds we can be guided to see that God the Creator has made all things according to His plan, and that we can only achieve our highest development by living in harmony with it' How can we know God's will for us? We need only a small seed of faith, for He will lead us in His way if we ask Him . . . and that seed will grow and flourish under His loving care.
