VACATION TIPS Before starting on that vacation trip, make sure your tires, lights, wipers, steering and brakes are in good working order. Take along a first aid kit, emergency flares, a flashlight and rnake sure you have seat belts. Don't forget to buckle up for safety. Plan your vacation trip to allow for a break from driving every two hours. Make sure you can do most of your driving in the daytime. Remembtr darkness increases driving hazards at all times and especially in strange surroundings. On that vacation trip you will need to check a road map. Be sure to pull off the road and stop when checking your route or for anything that requires your attention or that might distract you from the full time job of driving. If you are going to pull a trailer on that vacation trip, remember it requires different driving methods. Unless you are accustomed to towing a trailer, it's a good idea to practice on an empty parking lot before starting that tour. Good drivers never overload cars on a vacation trip. Acceleration is slower, stopping distance is longer and the sway on a curve is greater. If you use a car top carrier, .make certain that it is well secured and not overloaded. Defensive driving is important at all times. On a vacation trip it is vital! Alertness and the ability to anticpate the actions of other drivers will make your vacation safer.
