Section Two -- Page Two THE McHENRY PLAINDEALER Thursday, August A* 1966 : if LAKELAND PARK NEWS Barbara Meurer--385-4356 Carole Humann--385-1605 ALL STAR TEAM PLAYS GOOD BALL IN TOURNAMENT It has been a very busy time for the ball players in Lakeland Park the past two Weeks with the all-star team playing heads-up ball. Last week Wednesday, the Lakeland Park All Stars travelled to Lake Zurich to play their first game with the Lake Zurich All Stars. They won 9 to On Friday, they had a return game here with the team and lost by a score of 7 to 0. At this time, the boys were told that the team was entered in the Highwood Park District tournament and would play their first game on Saturday evening at 5:15. Arriving there, we found out we would be playing the host team, Highwood. The boys played a good game of ball, keeping us on the edge of our seats by ending the game in the 6th inning with a tie score and having to play extra innings. The game was won in the seventh, with a wild pitch by the Highwood pitcher, bringing in the winning run. Final score 4-3. Our next game will be on Tuesday. Aug. 2, against Lake Zurich, who is also in this tournament. Sure hope the boys win. The boys on the All Star team are, Joe and Jerry Selefski, Butch Morgenson, Scott Belohlavy, Robbie Wickenkamp, Dave Wickenkamp, Don Kaminski, Alan Meurer, Don Prazak, Jock and Kevin Worm, Marty Apel, Greg Bartos and Jeff Stolz. The manager is Ron Meurer, and the coaches are Jim Wickenkamp and Lee Mai. Happy Birthday Wishes Happy birthday wishes go to Carmon Hodges who adds another year on the 4th of August. On the 5th, Bobby kroening will be 15 and Pammy Mullen will be 6. On the 6th of August, Bob Laursen adds another year. Mark Bartos will be 14, Del Burns III will be 4 and Jerry Sullivan will be 12. The 8th of August has Jimmy Daurio turnink 12, Angelique Burmann 4 and Margaret Lane adding another year. The 9th of August has Lorraine Arient and Pat Richardson sharing the same day and Robert Moore turning 10. Aug. 10, my son Alan will be 12 and on Aug. 11, Jackie Richardson will be 5, Jimmy Hansen will be 16 and Keith Stolz will be 10. Happy birthday to everyone. Birthday Doings Christine Sweeney celebrated her tenth birthday on^July 28 with a supper birthday party. The girls went on a scavenger hunt, did a little dancing and took a walk to the ice cream parlor nearby. Those attending were, Ann Thennes, Tamrhy Justen, Donna and Mary Humann, Kathy Mueller. Joan Krein, Carol Brda, Diane Butler, and her sisters. Colleen and Alicia. On July 29, Colleen Sweeney had a party to celebrate her fifth birthday with all of the girls coming in their best party dresses. Cupcakes and ice cream cones were served to Patty and Pammy Mullen. Linda Bonk, Chris Knapik, Debbie Lawrence, and her sisters, Alicia, Christy, and Mary Therese. owski are friends from high school days. Margo and Robert Leone and the kids enjoyed a day at Brookfield zoo the beginning of the week. « Get-well wishes to Marge Webber, who is at McHenry hospital for surgery. Hope you're good as new in no time. Grandma Neuenfeldt paid a surprise visit to the Humanns. She called from Timber Lake on Saturday afternoon to announce a visit for the weekend. We took her to a softball tournament at Ingleside where our team lost their game. The rest of the weekend was kpent breathing the good old country air. Birthday greetings to Clarence Atkinson who celebrated last Friday night with cake and coffee. On hand to sing their congratulations were Jim and Marion Duffy and sons, George and Danny, Steve and Beula Hoard and Lorraine Anient. • Congratulations to the Bujaks and to Mrs .Arndt on the birth of a new grandson born to Ray and Leona Bujak, The little guy was born on Saturday and weighed 6 lbs. He* was named Raymond Scott and will be called Scotty. Sister Robin is at home waiting for her; newbrother. Cathy Humann attended a party in Skokie for her cousin, Cheryl, on the occasion of her thirteenth birthday. Cathy went with the Nielsen family from Ingleside as the rest of the family was unable to attend. The ladies met at Delia Julian's last week for luncheon and an afternoon of tripoli. Edna Hountras, Ifcuth . Mo- Mahon, Lu McEneryi and Ann I-Ierzog had "such a .good time that they continued the game in the evening . at Ann's and were joined by Helen Kraskiewicz. More cards were the order of the day on Sunday at Helen's. Lu and Jim McEnery, Ruth McMahon. and Ann Herzog, and Helen and Gene really got the mileage out of that deck of cards. Ann Herzog entertained her family in spurts last week. First she was visited by her 'granddaughter, Carol," and Bill Kesig and their little ones, Ann's great-grandchildren. Robby and Terri. Breakf a s t: Orange-apricot juice drink--fried eggs with canned luncheon meat--toast. Lunch: Chicken noodle soup--» peanut butter sandwiches--rai-$f caVrot sticks--left-over cake, sins--hard candies. Dinner: Cold roast beef on buns--potato salad with lettuce- Steen and daughter, Gini, who spent the day spiffing up the yard and relaxing over a hot deck of cards. Jim and Marion Duffy and the kids spent Sunday at Braidwood where they visited old friends, Mrs. Bone and her two children and grandchildren. They spent the day swimming and fishing and topped it off with a barbecue. M o r e g e t - w e l l w i s h e s t o George Manning who is at Memorial hospital in Woodtomato wedges--pickles--choco-j irig and pack with crackers, late cake. Beef and chocolate cake are prepared at home to save cooking time on trip. Carry cooked potatoes and salad dressing separately in the cooler and combine just before serving. Add beverage of choice to all meals. Sunday Breakfast: Orange wedges--sausage links-- pancakes-- butter or margarine-- syrup. Lunch: Roast beef and catsup on whole wheat bread-- morning at Sherman hospital Ann's daughter, Ann, and Ellis stock undergoing tests. Dinner: Canned chili con carne--tossed s a 1 a d--French dressing--buttered rolls--fresh fruit in season. Monday Breakfast: Bananas on corn flakes--scrambled eggstoast with/jam. Luncif: ^Hamburgers on bunscatsup-- pickles--lettuce wedges dres sing--assorted packaged Cookies. Dinner Grilled canned ham-- mustard--canned yams--raisin bread--canned citrus salad-- dressing -- toasted marshmallows. Space does not allow us to list the balance of the week. FAMILIES SEE "GRADS" Reunions of graduates with their families have been tradi tional since the first sheepskir was inscribed. There was noth ing traditional, however, in the reunions grade and high schoo graduates had with their fam ilios recently in the Pontiac penitentiary. Following theii graduation ceremonies the men were greeted and congratulat ed by parents, wives, brother and sisters in the Pontiac chapel - the first such reunion in a penitentiary in the history of Illinois. There were 107 high school graduates and 31 who received diplomas for completing their grade school studies. On Saturday, they went to Hales corners, Wis., where they won a close game, 9 to 7. they won a close game, 9 to 9. On Sunday, a double header was played with Hale's Corners taking the first game 17 to 4 , and McHenry coming back in the second game winning 14 to 11. Steve George, Doug Belohlavy, Gregg Meyer, and Kirk Links are the boys from the subdivision who are on the team. Monday, Aug. 8 - Boy Scout meeting - 8:30 p.m. Get-Well Wishes Get-well wishes go to George Loewe who has been in the Harvard hospital since July 23. His wife, Mildred, and his daughter, Margo Schaedel, have spent many hours travelling back and forth to be with him. Hope he is able to come home real soon. Get-well wishes go to Mary Laurence who is also in the Harvard hospital. Hope it's nothing too serious Mary. Two year old, Diane Crook, Is in Wesley Memorial hospital In Chicago, having been the Victim of a freak accident. Something thrown up in the air, came down and hit her on top of the head putting quite a hole in it. As of today her mother says she is feeling real Strolling Through The Park Susie and Donna Barwig, Grandma Barwig and Mrs. Widhalm have just come back from a trip to Charleston, S.C.. where they were visiting their maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Welcker. While there, they went swimming in the ocean and had a delicious, southern bar-b-que. They also visited their Uncle Fred Welcker, Jr., in Columbia. S.C., and their Aunt Millie and Uncle Truman. The weather was just beautiful for them, with just two days of real hot weather. Billy Barwig is staying there for 3 more weeks, spending two of them at St. Mary's camp for boys. A call came from South Carolina on Sunday from the Fred Welcker, Jr., family announcing a new addition, an 8 lb., baby girl. Congratulations to the whole family. Jody Osmon and Wendy Dralle are visiting up in Kenosha, Wis., with Wendy's aunt and uncle. Our congratulations to the Knownames on their placing second (only 3 points behind the Viscounts) in State competition last Saturday. Those from here are Jody Osmon, Linda Zimny, Donna Kaminski. and their instructor, Jay O s- Our most special congratulations to Tammy Leone who was chosen as the first runnerup in the Little Miss Peanut contest. She can be our princess any old time. Susan Wautelet is recovering from a fall through a greenhouse window which resulted in ten stitches in her leg and orders to keep out of her ]x>ol for a while. Guess which bothers her most! Lou and Lorraine Mazzoni and daughters, Joyce, Gail and Judy, came to spend the day good, but she is to go into j with the Bottaris on Sunday, surgery sometime this week' The girls brought their swimwhich means another week's j ming suits and will stay for stay in the hospital. Attending the shower were Bev Wickenkamp, Helen Brooks, Marge Rebel, Dolores Rogers, Lucille Gross, Doris Johnson, Ann Kuhns, Joan's mother, Marie Laravik, Dorothy' Dargantz, Diane Horn, Diane Hoffman, Dolores Burmann and her mother-in-law, Elsie Burmann, who brought along four of her neighbors from Fox Lake. too. and were treated to a boat ride on the river and some fishing. We'll be seeing more of Bud Walker soon, as he is about to retire. At least that's what he's planning on doing, but Ma has other plans! Cynowas helped Grandma Gartze celebrate her birthday on Sunday at her home in Crystal Lake. The Quasts entertained guests over the weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Warmowski and daughters, Karen and Mary Therese, enjoyed the fine weather.
