Vale avenue, McHenry. ^ Survivors include his wife, Victoria Wieckawicz Nowicki,; seven sons Edward, Eugene, Lubomir, Stanley, Boleslaw, John J., and Victor; four daughters, Valerie P e t g e s, Phyllis Matuszak, Emily Temple and Wanda Kasperski; and twenty-nine grandchildren. A daughter, Irene Rougeau, preceded him in death. Funeral services were conducted at 9:15 Wednesday morning from the Fortuna funeral home at 4401 Kedzie avenue, Chicago, to St. Joseph church 48th and South Hermitage. Interment was in St. Mary's cemetery. KARL BETTS Funeral services were conducted Saturday afternoon at. the George R. Jus ten & Soirti chapel for Karl Betts, 78, of 4816 Barnard Mill road, Ringwood, who died in an Elgin hospital Sept. 8. He had been a patient there for a year. Burial was in Memorial Park cemetery, Woodstock. Mr. Betts was born Sept. 28, 1887, in Des Moines, Iowa. He was a carpenter by trade. Survivors are his wife, Anna; four daughters, Mrs. Harry JOHNSBURG PTA FEATURES FINE SPEAKER SEPT. 20 Johnsburg P.T.A. will begin its fall program on Sept. 20th at 8 p.m. with Dr. Wilson speaking on "Respect and Reverence." Parents of new pupils and kindergarteners will be welcomed by a committee of six. Dr. Wilson is an educator, lecturer, writer and training consultant. It is estimated tha in his supervision and management development activities, he travels over 100,000 miles each year and speaks to about the same number of people. He has coupled his extensive training activities with eighteen years in the classroom as professor of industrial relations psychology, education and economics and has been associated with several universities. The new officers, committee chairmen and room mothers are l o o k i n g f o r e w a r d t o b u s y months ahead. The membership contest is under way for a prize to the first room in each grade that has 100 per cent member* ship. Booster innoculations for diphtheria and tetanus and the small pox vaccinations are scheduled for January and Feburary, as are visual and auditory testings to be taken as soon as the equipment is available. Insert JAMES DORAN F11ST ¥1ST IM ^ET W POST M James Doran goes on record as the first Viet Nam veteran to Join Post 491, adding to a family record of "firsts" extending back many years. The late Robert Doran was the first World War n Pacific veteran to join Post 491 and Mrs. Doran was the first World War II woman veteran to become a member. The Legion had expressed pride to have such a wonderful record in this fine family. James Doran was discharged in August of this year and has reenlisted n the Navy. At present he is attached to attack squadron VA 125 at Cemoore Calif. He is) married and has a son, James, Jr. The young serviceman attended McHenry high school and was a Viscount member for many years. At present, the Legion is accepting new members who have cepting new members who serve in any branch of the service from Aug. 5, 1964, until hostilities cease. The 1967 membership is now in full swing, Post 491 also honored Robert Conway and Shorty Miller at a testimonial dinner last Monday at the post monthl ymeeting. Conway, after sixteen years of faithful service, has resigned as club steward but has said his experience and knowledge are at the post disposal at all times. SHOW WINNING The Register of Merit show season for Hereford breed of beef cattle was kicked-off with a bang at Nebraska state fair's Comhusker ROM show recently. Northern Pump company's Miss Colo won in the spring yearling heifer class. On the second day when bulls were judged, twenty-five were led out, and after much deliberation, Odell Gelvin of Falrland, Okla., selected thef champion. Gelvin is well known in the McHenry area. (Carol) Chaplin of Plymouth, Wis. Mrs. Lee (Dolores) Ritt of Wonder Lake, Mrs. Delroy (Jean) Kauke and Mrs. Gus (Jane) Savalik of McHenry; four sons, Earl and Robert of Ringwood, Carl of Niles and Kenneth of McCullom Lake; thirty-four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. The deceased was a member of the McHenry Masonic order, AF & AM, No. 158, the Woodstock Cavalry Commandry and Tebla Temple Oasis, Rockford. MRS. HELEN CARON Mrs. Helen Caron, 62, of 4434 W. Cicero Ave., Chicago, died in Cook County hospital about 1 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 11. She is the mother of Edward Caron of 4906 W. Maple Hill drive, McCullom Lake. Although she had been in poor healt hfor some time. Mrs. Caron had only been hospitalized for two days. She was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice, in 1953 and son, Richard, in 1944. Funeral Mass was recited in St. Catherine's church Chicago, at 10 a.m., Tuesday, with burial In Mount Carmel cemetary. Visitation was held in Hursen's funeral home, Madison St, Chicago. In addition to her son, Edward, she is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Joan Riley, Park Forest; sons, Robert and Albert of Chicago and Paul and Michael at home. She also leaves two sisters, Mrs. Hazel Jaeger Chicago, and Mrs. Sarah Mackin of Westchester, a frequent visitor in the area, and twelve grandchildren. Henry Peter Olson . HENRY PETER OLSON Graveside services for Henry Peter Olson, brother of Charles A. Olson of McHenry, were conducted at Mt. Olive cemetary in Chicago vlast Thursday by the Rev. Father Vincent P. Fish of the Episcopal Church of the Holy Family, Lake Villa. Mr. Olson died on July 21 at age 74 in a convalescent home in Tujunga Calif., where he had been a patient for about five months. His funeral and cremation took place in California at that time. His - wife, Esther, preceded him in death eleven years ago, after which he resided with his brother at Chapel Hill for a few years before moving to California. The only other survivor is his sister, Hattie (Mrs. George E. Hinze) of Tugunga. MATILDA DAVIDBON Mrs. Matilda J. Davidson, of Bay View lane, Bay, died , Friday,' ided 8/ . formerly Pistakee Sept. 9, about 3:15 p.m. in McHenry hospital, where\she had been a patient ior/ two weeks. Her death Cndi illness of several years Mrs. Davidson, 77, was born in Chicago Jan. 8, 1889. Sh and her husband Anderson (Andy) Davidson, became residents of Island Lake in 1937 and from 1948 to 1959 lived on Bay View lane, after which they moved to Florida. Mr. Anderson died Feb. 4, 1965. Survivors are two sons, William A. of McHenry and Andrew A. of Island Lake; one daughter, Mrs. William (La- Verne) ^Becker of Melrose Park; fifteen grandchidlren; one great-grandchild; two sisters, Miss Fredericka Smith and Miss Eleanor Smith of Fort Lauderdale, Fla. A daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Moeller, preceded her in death. Services were conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock by Pastor Donald E. Johnson of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran church, followed by private burial. Mrs. Davidson was a member of Emera chapter, No. 402, Order of the Eastern Star in Chicago. operator on Rt. 23 south of "Genoa, 111. Mr. Michel was born June 3, 1923, in McHenry, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Michels. On Nov. 22, 1952, he was married in Chicago to Dorothy Klatt. The deceased was a member of Robert Vanderstraten Post, No. 1169, American Legion, thr. Woodstock Moose lodge anc Memorial Hospital for McHenry County association. Besides his wife, he is survived by his father, and a sister Mrs. Emmitt Roberts, who reside in Johnsburg. The body rests at the Schneider - Leucht - Merwin-Cooney funeral home in Woodstock until Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock, when services will be conducted at Nativity Lutheran church, Wonder Lake. Burial will be in McHenry County Memorial Park' cemetery. DONALD L. MICHELS Donald L. Michels, 43, of 7220 E. North Wood drive, Wonder Lake, died unexpectedly Tuesday morning, Sept. 13, while at work as a crane EDWARD SANTELER Edward Santeler, 69, of Island Lake died Monday, Sept. 12, in Downey hospital. The deceased, a retired machinist was a native of Chicago. He is survived by his widow, Ema; four sons, Edward of Mount Prospect, Walter of Rockford and Howard and Erwin of Scha'umburg; also seventeen grandchildren, one brother and one sister. The body rests at the Island Lake funeral home where services will be held at 10 o'clock Thursday, followed by private burial.
