Tuesday, Oct. 11, students in McHenry high school and elementary schools celebrated National School Lunch Week by enjoying a 15 cent barbeque. The students took advantage of the low cost as twice as many meals were served. Normally, the lunch program provides 1,420 main portions. Tuesday, 2,860 barbeques were sold. The greatest increase was noted in the high school, which fed 1,071 barbeques when they usually serve about 450. All schools fed some youngsters fqr the first time. -Tt is well understood that regular meals cannot be provided during the school year at 15 cents, but the chief cooks in all buildings felt that this program would give the hot lunch practice a boost. This entire week is devoted to celebrating the National School Lunch Program and has been highly advertised. Pupil posters were prepared, as were posters prepared by the art departments in the elementary and high schools. This program was so well accepted that the phrase, "Come One, Come All" was read by some parents to include them. When these parents called the school, however, they learned that it was intended only for the pupils. The people of McHenry county will have the opportunity to see and hear Harris Rowe, Republican candidate for State Treasurer, and Ray Page, Superintendent of Public Instruction, at a dinner being held on Nov. 3 at 7:30 p.m. at the Vagabond House at Island Lake. The dinner is sponsored by the McHenry County Central committee. J.R. "Jake" Levesque has been named chairman of the dinner committee. The working members of the committee are Committeemen A1 Jourdan, Ross LaMotta, Harry Kinne, John Boden and Tony Varese. Also helping in the co-ordinating is County Chairman Ted Wick- _nian.
