SEMI-FINAUST STATE TO INSTALL BEACON AT WONDER LAKE ROAD - 120 State Rep. William A. Giblin of Marengo has received a letter from Chief Highway Engineer Virden E. Staff, stating favorable reaction to a request for a safety installation at the intersection of Rt. 120 and Wonder Lake road, the scene of many accidents. Hie letter read, in part, rHAs a result of your inquiry aad subsequent interest in this location by other parties (one of them Mrs. Jean Davis of Wonder Lake), this intersection has been reexamined and a determination has been made that an\)verhead flashing beacon shouldkbe installed. This beacon will flash yellow to traffic on 111. Rt. 120 as a warning of the intersection and red to traffic on Wonder Lake road as a supplement to the stop signs with which motorists must comply prior to leaving Wonder Lake road and making entry onto the state highway. "Our district office is preparing plans for this flashing beacon installation and we hope to have this work accomplished early in 1967." MENTAL CENTER APPROVES $75,000 BUDGET REQUEST The Mental Health Center for McHenry County board of directors approved a budgeted request of $75,000 for 1968 from the McHenry County Community Mental Health board if the proposed mental health referendum is adopted in November. Action was taken at the meeting last week to establish an idea of, what the cost actually would be to operate the Mental Health center as an expended mental health care facility in keeping with the intent of the law. Frank Prem, president of the McHenry County Association for Retarded Children has personally endorsed the referendum and will seek the support of association members at a meeting called for this purpose. He will propose to the board a budget of $25,- 000 for 1968. The two health care organizations' requests then would total $100,000. Translated to practical terms, this means a levy of 2V2 cents per $100 assessed valuation, or less than $3 a year for the average home owner, Joseph Gitlin, Mental Health center board president, explained. This is far below the maximum written in the law, and the referndum is worded to permit a levy of 10 cents only because that is the requirement of the state law. In other counties where a similar referndum was adopted, the request was for ?, cents per $100 assessed valuation.
