Perry Owens» president of ihe Whispering Hills Water Company, was the guest speaker. Mr. Owens thoroughly explained the water situation to about thirty people. Sunnyside Estates, being in the highest spot, would naturally bear the brunt of water difficulties. The existing well can supply 750 homes under normal conditions. Only 450 homes are supplied. Causes of the water shortage has been a break in the main which could not be immediately detected, minor difficulties with the pump and excessive sprinkling and water usage during our extraordinary dry summer. L Mr. Owens s y m pathizes with our problem and as he l>ointed out it would be to his advantage to supply us with all the water we need. He has in his possession a new and larger pump ready for installation. But a three phase line from the power company is needed before it can be installed. Afterwards Mr. Owens answered questions from the floor. Two board members were elected at this time. They were Jim Williams and Mel Simmons. After the meeting the Lucky Ladies Club served cake and coffee and everyone enjoyed a social hour. Birthday Celebrations June Voight was very pleasantly surprised when some of her neighbors came to wish Kuechel, Gloria Von Oepen, Pat Bott and Florence Kanter brought cake and rolls and their very best wishes. Kelly Noah and his family spent his birthday in Chicago at the home of LaVerne's parents . Mr. and Mrs. William Johnston. LaVerne's sister and brother were also there to honor Kelly and Mr. Johnston on their birthdays. Helen Faley enjoyed the company of Robin Radtke, Monica Davis and Mary Walczynski on her ninth birthday. The girls had their fill of cake and ice cream and after a chatting session th?y watched TV. $ Magnus Oison had a very pleasant birthday. He and Louise spent the day in Lake Villa at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Thiele. They all indulged in their favorite pastime of playing cards. Ted Voight, Jr., had a family party for his seventh birthday. This included .mom and dad and his six brothers and sisters who know how to make a day different from any other. The Aquanauts Members of the Lucky Ladies Club spent Saturday evening swimming at a nearby indoor pool. Those who joined the fun were the Jim Williams, the Jerry Olsens and guests, the A1 Jourdans of Pistakee Terrace, the Walter Bergs, the Kenneth Segerstroms, the A1 Mays, the Bob Mikkelsens, the Lou DeFranciscos, and the Ed Wickmans. There was the usual amount of cannonballing, ball tossing and of course people tossing! Not to mention a chilling game of ice cube tossing-- they seemed to land in the most unusual places. Following the swim, everyone gathered at the Mikkelsen home for hot beef sandwiches, relishes, salad and refreshments. Proud Godparents Flo and Barb Jesski were godparents to tiny Arthur Kenneth Smith. He is the first son of Barb's niece. The Smiths have three girls, so this christening had reason day. Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Gore and sons from Franklin Park spent the afterjibon visiting. Ervm is the sort' of Mrs. Gore, a former resident of Sunnyside Estates. A weekend away from family and work was ideal for Don Gerstein. He and £ close friend spent two rest filled days in La Crosse, Wis., at the October Festival. Casualty List Nine year old Helen Farley and her family were attending the eightieth birthday party of their great aunt in Chicago where Helen had the misfortune to break her collar bone. Helen who sometimes feels like Cinderella at home is now being treated like a princess by her sisters and brothers. We hope you will be feeling better soon and we hope all the special a t t e n t i o n f r o m f a m i l y a n d friends will ease your pain. Square Dance Weekend A resort on White Sands Lake in Montello, Wis., was the scene of a square dance weekend attended by Bob and Betty Lakowski. There were thirty couples and they were divided into four couples to a group. Bud and Sylvia Von Obstfelder from Sunnyside accompanied the Lakowskis on this relaxing weekend. They shared a cottage with two other couples from Phillips, Wis. The weekend was filled with square dancing and round dancing. Their mornings were free but in the afternoons and evenings there was dancing and then an after party where they all played games. They did not have to do any cooking since all their meals were prepared and served family style. There was always someone playing a trick or doing something funny. Saturday evening four girls walked in and selected partners for a dance. Bob found himself out on the floor dancing not with a girl but with a guy dressed in women's clothes. OPEN HOUSE AT NEW FAMILY UNIT, CHILDREN'S HOME An open house to show the new family-living unit of the Woodstock Children's hometo the public will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 2?t The building is the former home of Mr. and Mrs. William Graham and is located at 14411 Kishwaukee Valley road, one-half mile west of the U.S. Route 14-bypass. Remodeling has adapted the so that twelve children^ under the care of the Woodstock Children's home will live in the building. The house parents, iClr. and Mrs. Glenn Peterson, will have their own quarters. Five different family groups live at the home on North Seminary avenue, and children from the same family will be kept together in this new conception of child care. One key reason the Woodstock Children'^ home purchased the Graham property tor. $45,000 is because it required a minimum of remodeling to house twelve children. : t Good-hearted citizens from near and far have come up with $26,000 toward the cost of the property. The board of directors b orrowed the balance. It also is financing, remodeling and furnishing but the Rev. Clifford Redding, executive director, is hopeful additional donations for .this purpose will be received. The Children's home took an option to buy the property on Feb. 8 and completed the transaction after zoning changes June 9. Children who will live in the building are going to District 10 schools, the district that serves that, area. ^ The Children's home has forty children under its care. The eighty-year-old institution pioneered the way for teen-age child care in Illinois with the successful introduction of placing teen-age boys and girls in Harrison House under supervision of housepa rents. The family-living idea is one of three oroiects underway at the Children's hpnne in its "New Day" program. Also being instituted are ind i v i d u a l i z e d e d u c a t i o n a n d personality ' development programs. Shop In McHenry For Your Informotiofi Dear friends. The handsome architecture and accomodations in many of our newer churches and temples reflect the desire of modern Americans to worship their God in an attractive edifice. So too, the public has. indicated a preference for quality funeral home facilities and motor equipment. Just as church budgets have Increased, so too has public taste caused a modest Increase in funeral expenses. Oijten parents ask, "WHEN IS IT TIME TO BEGIN THE RELIGIOUS TRAINING OF OUR CHILD?" Here's a straight-forward answer: "THE MOMENT YOU BEGIN TO LOVE HIM!" You see, God is love. And, in a home where God is loved, a child quickly l^egins to associate the love of his parents for him with this Other Love which is felt by those he loves. Then cortie Bible stories and pictures and a simple prayer to help him experience and express his growing faith. Soon he'll be starting Sunday School --- but his religious training has already begun. Our churches are helping tomorrow's parents equip themselves spiritually today. The couple planning marriage needs a mature religious faith. For when God has given us a little son or daughter . . . THE CHURCH FOR Al_l_ ALL FOR THE CHURCH The Church is the (realol factor on earth for the building of character and (ood citizenship. It is a storehouse of spiritual values. Without a strong Church, neither democracy nor civilization can survive. There are four sound reasons why every person should attend services regularly and support the Church. Tliey are: (1) For his own sake. (2) Far his children's sake. (3) For the sake of his community and nation. (4) For the sake of the Church itself, which needs his moral and material support. Plan to (o to church regularly and read your Bible daily.
