Emerald drive, McHenry, died in Memorial hospital, Woodstock, Monday morning, Oct. 17, following a brief illness. He had resided at the above address for the past seven years, but lived his entire lifetime in the McHenry area. He was born Sept. 6, 1912. For several years Mr. Dowell had been a quality control inspector at the Oaks Manufacturing company in Crystal Lake. Hie deceased was a veteran of World War H. Survivors are his widow, Mae; and one brother, Earl Dowell, of Lafayette, Ind. Services were conducted by Rev. Raymond White of the Community Methodist church at the George R. Justen & Son chapel at 8 o'clock Tuesday evening, with private burial. MICHAEL E. DEO EN Michael E. Degen, 72, a lifelong resident of the McHenry area, died unexpectedly last Monday morning, Oct. 17, at his home at 3706 W. Waukegan road, where he had resided for twenty-four years. Mr. Degen was born Feb. 23, 1894. He was an electrician by trade. The deceased was a veteran of World War I and belonged to Legion Post No. 491, McHenry. Survivors are his widow, Eva Williams Degen; one daughter, Mrs. Kenneth (Carol) Flashberger of Gwinn, Mich.; three sisters, Mrs. William Blake and Mrs. Joseph Blake of McHenry and Mrs. John Kueney of Kenosha, Wis., and a brother, John, of Johnsburg. The body rests at the George R. Justen & Son funeral home until 10 o'clock Thursday morning, when a Mass will be sung in St. Mary's Catholic church, followed by burial in the church cemetery. owCan I Q. The suits result from an accident on the Crystal Lake blacktop last Feb. 28 in which the two Barwigs lost their lives. Young berg, 77, of 307 Emerald drive, McHenry, who collapsed on a CTA bus earlier in the week and was pronounced dead on arrival at Garfield hospital. Burial was in Mount Olive cemetery, Chicago. Masonic services were conducted from the chapel Wednesday evening. Survivors are two daughters, Mrs!. Leonard J. Survivors are a half-brother, Jon Sanborn, of Spring Grove; and a grand-niece, J a n i n e R e a d e l o f W o o d stock. Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Constance Robinson, of Warrenville; a son, Kenneth, of Long Island, New York, and five grandchildren. The body rested at the Ehorn funeral home, Richmond, where services were conducted at 1 o'clock Friday, with burial in Mount Emblem cemetery, Elmhurst. LILLIAN BOSSLER Last rites were conducted Monday afternoon from the Schmidt chapel in Chicago far Mrs. Lillian E. Bossier, 6M, of 482'J N, Wood row avenue, McHenry, who died in McHenry hospital Friday, Oct. 14. Burial was in Acacia Park cemetery. Mrs. Bossier, a fifteenyear resident of McHenry was bom Jan. 3, 1903. She was a member and past matron of McHenry chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. Her husband preceded her in death. Survivors are a son, Edward; two "grandchildren and two brothers. LOUISE BURKE A funeral Mass was sung Wednesday m orning in St. Michael's church, Wheaton, for Mrs. Louise Burke, 63, of Wheaton, who died Sunday, Oct. 16, in McHenry hospital. She was a sister-in-law of Mrs. Richard Nimtz of McHenry, with whom she had made her home for the past four months. MRS. EDWARD CROPLEY Mrs. Edward Cropley of Dodgeville, Wis., for many . years a resident of Solon pitch, m on a . regular rotat Mills, died Monday, Oct. 17, Alee Carroll, full time manager, and Mrs. Marie Gorgo, who has more than 1,500 hours of volunteer services to her credit during the past year. Volunteers literally keep the coffee shop in the McHenry hospital open long hours for the benfit of patients and visitors. The more than 200 members of the woman's auxiliary Don Peasley PhdH1 Women of the woman's auxiliary give many hours each week to make operation of the coffee shop in the McHenry hospital possible. Waiting on customers are Mrs. in Valley Hi, Hartland. Mrs. Cropley, a practical nurse, was well known throughout the local community. She was born in 1877. Mrs. Cropley is survived by her husband, also of Valley Hi, and several nieces. OLSEN Mrs. Jennie Ehlers Olsen, 86, died Monday, Oct. 17, in Valley Hi, Hartland, where she had been a patient for three years. Mrs. Olsen formerly made her home on Green street, McHenry. The deceased was born Aug, 19, 1880, in Boston, Mass. Survivors include a son, James R. Ehlers, of Rhinelander, Wis. Her husband, Henry Ehlers, preceded ' her in death. A funeral Mass was sung Wednesday morning in St. M a r y ' s C a t h o l i c c h u r c h Woodstock, with burial in St. J o s e p h ' s c e m e t e r y , R i v e r Grove. HARRIS GIDDINGS Private services were conducted Nov. 12 in Elgin for Harris Giddings of Bluff City blvd., Elgin, formerly of McHenry. ANNA B. TENNERT Mrs. Anna B. Tennert, 72, of 3216 W. Beach drive, McHenry Shores, died Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 18, about 3:30 in her home of a heart attack. She had been a resident of that community for five years. Mrs. Tennert was born Nov. 28, 1893, in Chicago. Survivors are her husband, William M.; and a daughter residing in the East. The deceased was a member of the McHenry Woman's club. Arrangements were incomplete at the Peter M. Justen & Son funeral home as the Plaindealer went to press. Mrs. Alee Carroll, an efficient, friendly woman, is the full time manager of the coffee shop. It is located adjacent to the main lobby of this new 138-bed hospital and is a major asset to the. services provided for patient comfort and visitor convenience. Mrs. Claude F. MCDermott is president of the Auxiliary and spends many hours each week filling in and assisting with the operation of the coffee shop and the auxilarystaffed gift shop.
