Miss Gail Meyer chose ' a bridal gown of peau de sole taffeta for her marriage last Saturday, Nov. 5, in Christ the King Catholic church, Wonder Lake, to Mr. Richard D. Madden. Hie couple exchanged nuptial vows in a 2 o'clock double ring afternoon ceremony officiated by Rev. Fr. Gaynor. Miss Meyer's dress f e a - tured a chapel sweep sheath effect, with sculptured neckline, fitted bodice and long pointed sleeves, alencon lace1 adorning the front of the gown and the detachable chapel length train. Her silk illusion, two-tiered bouffant veil fell from an alencon lace, pejtaled shell crown, highlighted with one silk cabbage rose and pearls. The bride, who was given in marriage by her father, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leo M. Meyer of 4008 W. Maple avenue, McHenry, and Mr. Madden is the son of Mrs. Olga Madden of 7501 Center drive, Wonder Lake. Edie Sutherland of Sunnyside acted as maid of honor, attired in an apricot-colored, floor length satin dress with eyelet overskirt. She carried a bouquet of light apricot and white carnations and apricotcolored roses. Frank Latino of Woodstock served the groom as best man. Mrs. Meyer selected for her daughter's wedding an Indian aqua, two-piece dress with matching accessories and a white carnation corsage. Mrs. Madden was attired in a twopiece, royal blue silk suit with matching accessories and a corsage of light blue and white carnations. A reception followed the ceremony for 100 guests, held at the Legion home, McHenry. The newlyweds win make their home in WOnder Lake. The bride received her education at Marian /Central high school and her husband at McHenry high. She is employed by the Admiral Corp., McHenry, and he at the Woodstock Die Casting, Woodstock. _ McHenry Girt . Engaged To Wed ker and Mrs. Robert G. (Marilyn) Miller of McHenry and Melvin J, of Crystal Lake; twenty -five grandchildren and one-great-grandchild. Mr. Freund farmed for thirty-four years in the Johnsburg community, and is now retird. NANCY ANN ZAHN WED SATURDAY AT ST. MARY'S St. Mary's Catholic church was the setting for a beautiful wedding on Saturday, Nov 5, when Miss Nancy Ann Zahn became the bride of Mr. Lenard John Szarek in a ceremony which took place at 2 o'clock in the afternoon. Rev. Fr. Rudden officiated at the nuptial rite. Miss Zahn is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph A. Zahn of 2416 N. Orchard Beach road, McHenry, and her husband is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Szarek of 134 W. Rand road, McHenry. Bouquets of gladioli and white roses decorated the altars of the church. Miss Zahn was charming as she walked down the aisle wearing a white, floor length, empire styled, long sleeved /gown with lace bodice and A-line skirt of antique satin. Her headpiece was a satin bow with three-tier shoulder length veil and she carried a cascade bouquet of white roses with a white orchid. Miss Linda Kneesel of Arlington Heights acted as her maid of honor, attired in a floor length, empire gown of forest green, the bodice accented in gold applftjue. A forest green, velvet bow served as her headpiece, to which a blusher veil was attached. Miss Kneesel carried a cascade bouquet of pom poms and mums in fall colors of gold and bronze. Lester Venable of McHenry served the groom as best man. Ushers were Robert Kneesel and Frank Davenport of Arlington Heights, both uncles of the bride. Mrs. Zahn wore a poudre blue, antique satin, 1 threepiece suit, with blue satin bow veil hat and white orchid corsage. Mrs. Szarek was attired in a dusty pink, three-piece suit, matching pillbox hat and similar corsage. Immediately following the wedding, a reception for seventy guests was held at the McHenry Country club, after which the couple left on a short honeymoon trip to southern Illinois. The new Mrs. Szarek is a graduate of Marian Central high school and is employed as a receptionist for A.C. Davenport & Son, Palatine. Her husband graduated from Marian and is employed as a carpentier for Theil Construction Co., Racine, Wis. The newlyweds will reside in the Concord Manor apartments on James Street, McHenry. KARON KARLS Mr. and Mrs. Joseph J. Karls of 5003 W. Bonner drive, McHenry, announce the engagement of their daughter, Karon Suzanne, to Alfred L. Caudell, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Caudell of Greenville, South Carolina. Miss Karls is a graduate of McHenry high school and is in her last year at St. Therese school of nursing in Waukegan. Her finace graduated from Clem son university and as a civilian is a civil enginer for a Greenville firm. At present he is attending officers' candidate school in the Navy at Newport, R.I. The new baby has two brothers, Ernest, Jr., 6, and Joey, 4. A dinner was served at the /Pioeroni home later to the / Marvin Rooney family, the ( grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Tonyan and Mrs. Pieroni, and the great-grandmother, Mrs. A. P. Freund. Firii®md!shlp Club Meato For Dinner The Friendship club of the Community Methodist church will hold its regular monthly meeting at 6 o'clock Saturday, Nov. 12, in the church basement. The usual pot-luck dinner will be served followed by the business meeting. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Sims have prepared a special program which should appeal to all. Entertain At Vets' Hospital Members of Court Joyce Kilmer , No. 573, Catholic Daughters of America, drove to Downey Wednesday, Nov. 2, for their monthly visit to entertain patients at the veterans' hospital. Games were played and prizes awarded to winners among the patients. Lunch followed, consisting of cider, doughnuts, cookies, bananas, popcorn balls and favors of Halloween candy. Members making the trip were . Elizabeth Thomps o n, chairman; Bertilla Freund, Irene Guffey, Ann Rodenkirch, Rose Staines, Frances Widhalm, Helen Heuser and Mary Hiller. Miller, who made his First Communion at St. Patrick's church On Oct. 30, was guest of honor at his home later. Present for a social afternoon and supper were his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph L. Schmitt, who makes her home with her sister, Mrs. Emma Lay, was surprised by a group of relatives at the Lay home, Sunday evening, the occasion being her eighty-seventh birthday which fell on Tuesday. Present for a social evening of cards and visiting and lunch with the customary birthday cake were Mrs. Mrs. Joseph S. Schmitt, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Freund, Mrs. Mary Schmitt and Mrs. Jean Green. r MISS KUHLMAN PLEDGES KAPPA DELTA SORORITY Deborah Kuhlman, a freshman at the University of Denver from McHenry, is one of t w e n t y - s e v e n w o m e n who have been pledged by Kappa Delta social sorority. The university's eight sororities pledged 190 coeds at the close of the recent fall rush period. Miss Kuhlman is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Kuhlman, 3817 Wauke g a n street, MjcHenry. She is a 1966 graduate of McHenry Community high school. At the University of Denver she is majoring in advertising design. MCHS ANNUAL NOTICE . DAR CHAPTER MEETS NOV. 28 AT JACKSON HOME The October meeting of the Kishwaukee chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution was held recently at the country home of Mrs. John McConnell on Charles road, north of Woodstock. A business meeting was in session at U o'clock, followed by luncheon served by Mrs. Walter Hoy and Mrs. Joseph Knuth, co-hostesses with Mrs. McConnell. The afternoon program was given by Mrs. Reber Graves of Glen Ellyn. Mrs. Graves is Illinois state chairman, Flag of the United States of America. She spoke on "Our Flag- Today and Yesterday," tracing origin and usage through the years, dawn to the present. She urged a more frequent display of the flag, and urged women, as well as men, to stand at attention or salute as the flag goes by. The next regular meeting, Nov. 28 of the Daughters of the Revolution, Kishwaukee chapter, will be. held at the home erf Mrs. George H. Johnson, 3805 W. Main street, McHenry. Co-hostesses will be Mrs. K. C. Peterson and Mrs. Frank Henry. Mrs. Charles Wright will speak on "The Story of Majelica Ware' and tshow some rare pieces from her collection. CD of A MEMBERS ATTEND NOV. 6 AREA WORKSHOP Several officers and members of Court Joyce Kilmer, No. 573, C.D. of A., attended the Catholic Daughters of America, Rockford diocesan workshop at Holiday Inn, North Aurora, Sunday, Nov. 6. Attending were Elvina Latimer, grand regent; Elizabeth Thompson, vice-grand regent; Mary Boetsch, historian; Alvira Nye, treasurer; Jean Driscoll, monitory Ann Rodenkirch, Helen Moriarity and Hildegard Douglas, trustees; and Stella Graham and Eleanor Strache. Nine courts of the Rockford diocese were well represented at the workshop. The morning session began with registration at 9 o'clock followed by a very informative discussion with reference to rules and regulations and highlights of the national convention. At noon, a delicous buffet luncheon was served. The afternoon session be- »an with a demonstration of the ritual of installation and initiation by the Elgin court, with Madeleine Schroeder, district deputy, officiating. A question and answer period followed the demonstration. A closing prayer by Eleanor Quinn, national director, - concluded the day. Honor Mro. Young At Baby Shower Mrs. Kenneth Young was the honored guest at a baby shower held at the home of Mrs. Georgiann Hopp on Sunday. Mrs. Hopp served a delicious buffet supper from a table decorated in the traditional pink and blue motif to twenty guests. Former residents of McHenry the Youngs now make their home in East Moline, 111. Mrs. Young is the former Sandra Schmunk. University Dean To Be Featured * By Johnsburg PTA Robert F. Topp, dean of the College of Education at Northern Illinois university, will be the guest speaker at the Nov. 15 meeting of the Johnsburg P.T.A. Dean Topp, who will speak on "Fathers Roll in Education," is the author of such articles as "Bruises and Bumps--Needless or Necessary," "Let's Stop Downgrading Boys," "Teacher Personality: Impact on Children," "Research is for Children" As Well As Their Teachers" and many others that he has written for school journals. Dean Topp is a native of DeKalb and an alumnus of the university there and has taught at seven other universities and colleges. Several of our teachers have been in his classes. . New health equipment for vision and audio testing are being purchased by the P.T.A. and testing will be given immediately by Health Chairman Lois Perrewe. There are fifteen cheerleaders this year who participate at all the school games. Parents are also invited to attend. While refreshments are being served, a square dance demonstration will be performed by the Woodshed Whirlers and explained by Charles Class. The meeting will be held at the Johnsburg Public School at 8 p.m. and all parents, friends and neighbors are invited. November II .
