Nye, widow of the late Dr. N.J. Nye, practicing physician in McHenry for many years, died in her home at 3425 W. Elm street Monday evening, Nov. 14, at 9 o'clock. Death followed an illness of about two months. Mrs. Nye, 88 years of age, was born in Harvard June 28, 1878, daughter of William and Bridget Pendergast McGee. She had lived in McHenry since the age of 12. The deceased was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America and St Patrick's Altar and Rosary sodality. Her husband died in 1938. Survivors are an adopted son, Arthur V. Martin, who had made his home with her for thirty years; four step-children, Harvey Nye, Mrs. Walter (Rosemay) Carey, Dr. William A. Nye and Eugene Nye, all of McHenry; six nephews and a niece. The body rests at the Peter M. Justen L Son funeral home, where the rosary was scheduled to be recited at 8 o'clock Wednesday evening. A funeral Mass will be sung Thursday morning at 10 o'clock at St. Patrick's Catholic church, with interment in the church cemetery. WILLARD THURLWELL Willard Thurlwell, 57, of Wallace street, Crystal Lake,, a native of McHenry, died Sunday, Nov. 12, in St. Joseph hospital, Elgin. Son of the late William and Anna Oeffling Thurlwell, he attended McHenry schools and resided here until his marriage in 1939 to Myrtle Huffman, when they moved to Crystal Lake. For many years, Mr. Thurlwell was an employee of the Terra Cotta corp., where he was a foreman in the plaster shop. TTie deceased was a veteran of World War II. In addition to his wife, he leaves a sister, Mrs. Stella Raycraft, of McHenry and a brother, Neil, of California. Last rites were conducted Wednesday afternoon in the Warner funeral home. Crystal Lake, with Rev. Dr. John Figley officiating. Burial was in Crystal Lake Union cemetery. EDWARD E. CROPLEY Services were conducted from the Ehorn funeral home in Richmond Tuesday afternoon by Rev. J. Robert Quinn for Edward E. Cropley, 96, of 4109 John street, Solon Mills. Mr. Cropley died Saturday, Nov. 12, in Memorial hospital, Woodstock, where he had been a patient two days. The deceased was born Oct. 13, 1870, in Solon Mills, son of Elliott and Flora Cropley. He had lived in this area most of his life, and before retirement was a truck garden farmer. His wife, Miriam, died Oct. 17 of this year. The only other survivors are nieces and nephe.ws. Burial was in Cedarvale cemetery, Solon Mills. GEORGE E. BREFELD A funeral Mass was sung Monday morning in St. Mary'!* Catholic church for George E. Brefeld, 79, who died Thursday evening, Nov. 10, in Birchwood nursing home on Rt. 14. Burial was in tho church cemetery. Mr. Brefeld, a retired dairy farmer, was born Feb. 4, 1887, in McHenry county. He resided on Rt. 120, McHenry. He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Joseph V. (Jo Ann) Blue of Libertyville; a son, George W., of Round Lake; sixteen grandchildren and a brother, William, of McHenry. THOMAS HOYNE II Thomas Macclay Hoyne II, 68. of Northfield, a member of one of Chicago's oldest .families, died Saturday, Nov. 12, while hunting pheasants in the Oakmount Game club, McHenry. Services were held Monday for the investment broker. ELKS DANCE The Woodstock Elks lodge is planning a pre-Thanksgiving dance Saturday evening, Nov. 19, starting at 6:30 o'clock. This will be part of the sixtieth year anniversary celebration. This year's celebration marks the beginning of a year-long observance by Rotary clubs everywhere of the fiftieth anniversary of the Rotary foundation, according to club president Earl Walsh. The objective of the foundation is to further understanding and friendly relations between peoples of different nations. Since 1947, when a program for graduate study abroad was begun, the Rotary foundation has awarded 2,300 Rotary fellowships at a cost of more than $6 million.
