The big occasion was the Pitch and Hit dinner at Belvidere, promoted by Fred Schulte, a native son who made the big leagues some years back. It was through our good and true friend Joe Frett that we were able to attend this big shindig where tickets are limited. We had a great time. "Doctor" Wilhelm, famous knuckle ball pitcher of the ner will start at 7 p.m. One high light will be the presentation of 1966 varsity and underclass award winners by Coaches Tom Parsley, Lou Hartlieb and Tom Parker. Another will be recognition of the cheerleaders for their efforts to boost the Hurricanes. Feature Fletcher 0 A talk by Howard Fletcher, athlete chosen most worthy for the honor by the players themselvs. Last year's winner was Mike DeWane, and the husky fullback is one of several prospective candidates since he earned the award in 1965 as a junior. Fletcher, head coach for the Huskies for nine seasons, was coach of the No. 2 small college team in 1963. He earned "Coach of the 'rear" praise from his cohorts in District 8. He was second in national balloting for the honor the same year. Tickets , for the dinner have been mailed to Fathers Club members. Actually, he didn't have much to say about the Sox. He did say he aims for the strike zone and has no more idea how the ball is going to break than those baffled batters and catchers do. "Rip" Collins was ready with a few stories and handled the Job with the same ease that he dug low throws out of the dirt in his days at first base for the St. Louis Gas House Gang. Harvey Kuehn was another who seemed to have what it takes for the banquet circuit. He never was one to let a good one go past him. The orange and black don't at the present time have the height and muscle to pull down those valuable rebounds. TTiey were outrebounded 61 to 33 by the Bulldogs, and Antioch also showed a distinct advantage off the glass. To complicate matt ers worse, McHenry shot a miserable percentage from the field on their 2 point attempts, and couldn't cope with fast break attempts by the opposition. In the first half, Grant had 12 points on free throws to one point from the line by McHenry. Those free throws do count. One keen observer, who lias probably forgotten more basketball than most of us will ever know, promised to let us know if he ever finds a way to win games if you can't get the ball. Coach Anderson will no doubt be glad to see Paul Kilday available for a spot in the lineup, Paul was suited up, but has a cast on one arm as a result of a football, injury.
