PAGE 10, SECTION 2 - MCHENRY PLAIN DEALER - NOVEMBER 24, 1966 LOM Lake News EVE LEVESQUE 385-4141 COMPLETION OF DRAINAGE PROJECT SFT FOR SPRING The drainage project in the west end of the village which involved a portion of three roads is basically completed and should alleviate flooding conditions, but some parts of it cannot be finished until Spring, according to road commissioner Harry Lock. All six catch basins have been installed and all piping is under ground. The roads -- a part of Maple Hill Drive, W. Orchard, and Forest View-- have been graded and graveled, but seeding of the easements will be dpne next spring. A \ retaining wall at the end ot the project will also be installed in wanner weather. If you have made a survey of the property involved, you will certainly'be-pleased with the results. The project was contracted with Lakeland Construction Company for just under $8,- 000.00. Motor fuel tax funds were used to finance the work. New Road Work Delayed According to the latest report, residents living along W. Parkview, from Gate 1 to Gate 2 will have more time to remove their bushes, shrubs, and trees which they hope to save. From all indications. the new road, east of the Ray Murphy property and the one block of W. Parkview will not be started this year. Necessary repairs will be made by the village road commission, to keep the roadway in usable condition. Even on the Grapefruit! They don't plan to serve it to her this week, but sometime in the future, the Ken Loesch family won't have problems with that extra half grapefuit! The family came to an even number of four with the birth of Kimberley Ann at Harvard hospital. Tuesday, Nov. 15, at 6:19 a.m. Nancy and Ken just barely beat the stortef-in the race! Their wee new daughter weighed in at 6 lbs., 1 oz., and measured 20 inches from toe to the top of her dark hair. Ecstatic with his new playmate is Scotty, 27 months old. Maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Anderson of McHenry and Ken's folks are Mr. and Mrs. Roberf Loesch of Chicago. Matern a l g r e a t - g r a n d p a r e n t s a r e Mrs. Mary Kantorski of W. Parkview, Mrs. Elsie Hughes of Antioch. and Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Anderson. Sr., Madison, Wise. Poor Mary gave up waiting fop- the blessed event and took off for Kansas City, Mo., the day. before it happened. She is spending time with Laverne and Bob Kantorski in that city. Best wishes to all involved in the happy occasion. Too Long Neglected A contributing factor to a good time anyplace is the presence of Richard (Dick) White and for some strange reason, tffls reporter keeps neglecting ihm. This head is bowed in humble apologies. It was he. and not Tom Bateman. who recorded the excellent shots at the recent "Hard Time" party and Dick was also busy clicking his shutter at the recent Cullom- Knoll Harvest Home dance. Let his feats be properly recorded for posterity! A Sick Little Baby As of Friday morning, the news was- very encouraging about Richard Scott, the five week olo son of Joan and and Frank BSranham. who was hospitalized in McHenry, last Sunday. He is being treated for an intestinal ailment and is responding very well, according to his mom. Weighing only 6 lbs., 12 oz.. at birth, and slightly premature, he had no reserve strength, when he was stricken. He has started to gain weigfir-andvwe sincerely hope* by this reading, the wee one is back in his' mother's arms. When A Feller Needs ^ A Friend" Having only come to the community a scarce vear before tragedy befell the family, Ruth Gumm felt she had no where to turn for help, when Whitey was involved in his auto accident. But she certainly learned the meaning of friendship when people from all over the area rallied to her aid. Those who helped solve her many problems were Dick Pickett and the Ed Houlihans of McHenry, Lucille and Clyde Pillar, Linda and Carl Bergstrom, Dotty Vick, Sam Deskis, Shorty Sheriff, Harry Reimer, Frank Ritzer and Arthur Berg strom of Chicago, and Butch Steffan of Hebron. As we printed last week, Whitey is home from the hospital and feeling great. He reported that the accident was caused when his dog Lucky spotted a rabbit running across the street and flew across Whitey's lap, causing him to lose control of his vehicle. two are strapped for transportation until they acquire a new set of wheels. Glad to print a happy ending to the saga. Wild Game Refuge? It seems like a good idea to warn residents in the area of the presence of deer, lots of them. They can be extremely hazardous when driving at night! Bill Brand reports that he had to stop his vehicle last Wednesday night to avoid hitting four young beautiful beasts. He was on the Ringwood road just south of the McCullom Lake blacktop when he encountered them. They appeared startled and confused by the headlights and then turned and leaped over a fence to the west and disappeared in the field. In all his' hunting experiences, he has never witnessed a sight like this one. Orval Abney was told by his friend Bud Schau of Woodstock that he sighted a ten point buck in the Bud Oxtoby yard, Ringwood, that same morning. Here's hoping the "critters" are shot by cameras, and NOT by guns! A Very Welcome Addition We simply must comment on the beautiful new pews which were installed in Nativity Lutheran Church, Wonder Lake, last week. Many villagers are members of the church and are so happy to be able to use them. All were donated in entirety or in part by members of the congregation. Two full pews were given by Mr. and Mrs. Willard Schultz and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Thacker. According to the Rev. Thomas Johnson, the pews will be dedicated Sunday, Dec 18. Why not- plan to attend? Latest Word From Senior Citizen It is a joy and a privilege to report the latest news from that grand guy, Siefried Stevenson, now living at the Masonic Home, Sullivan, 111., 61951. In spite of a bout of flu, he is gaining weight and is ver>L happy in his surroundings. When the others get Tried chicken, he gets his boiled! The home is fattening seventy-five turkeys which will be served for Thanksgiving and Christmas. He doesn't have a girl friend yet, but he is still looking! Steve was ecstatic with the election returns, so guess what his politics are. H e r e ' s h o p i n g h i s m a n y friends will remember him with cards and letters and don't forget to include him on your Christmas list. Handsome Marine Has Landed Charley Tomasello arrived home last week, after completing boot training with the Marine Corps on the west coast. He will be here with his mother, Mary, until after Thanksgiving. He looks just great and wears his uniform with pride. Most Be An Eassler Way Bruce Walter had the shocks of his life recently when <his dog, Rinny, killed a raccoon while he was attached. It seems as though Bruce had the chain wrapped around himself so the canine couldn't get away from him. He was dragged right along When the pet went for the invader! It looks so easy when A1 Kanak is astride one of the beautiful horses owned by Carol and Tom Bateman. He is just part of the animal and rides like a cowboy. After much urging and coaxing, Ed Caron was persuaded to mount. Then the fun started! In spite of his height, it was no easy task getting aboard and even worse trying to dismount. Wonder if Ed plans to take lessons? Holiday (iueito T h e r e s a a n d W i l l a r d Schultz are spreading the welcome mat tomorrow for Thanksgiving guests. They are Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Benson of Woodstock and Mrs. Elmer Schuring of Huntley. Notes From the bike Set "Us Gals" are proud of the work they are doing on their club patches, featuring aqua and whit<» Some are accomplished seamstresses and others are having difficulty. But they are working. The Monkees made drums q r i d w a s t e b a s k e t s f r o m empty gallon ice cream containers, and they turned out quite handsome. The idea was dreamed up by their chape rones. Bonnie Morris and Ethel Brendle. Both groups and the teen organization is sponsored by the Cullom- Knoll association. When a man gives thanks he is expressing his affection for and his dependence on those who constantly share the experiences of his life. When a man gives thanks he is laying aside his discontentments to rejoice in the more numerous and more meaningful satisfactions that have marked each passing day. When a man gives thanks he is escaping from the webs of pride, greed and self-addition that could otherwise imprison his soul. When a man gives thanks he is meeting God on God's own ground. For God is God! And we are His chftdren. When a man gives thanks he is discovering his' greater need. For all that God has provided is but the threshold to all that God promises. It is a storehouse of spiritual values. Without a strong Church, neither democracy nor civilization can survive. There are four sound reasons why every person should attend services regularly and support the Church. They are: (1) For his own sake. (2) For his children's sake. (3) For the sake «f his community and nation. (4) For the sake of the Church itself, which needs his moral and material /nupport. Plan to go to church regu- ' larly and read your Bible daily.
