The L.L.C.'s were pleased to see some new faces and hope to see even more in the months to come. Hat party plans are in the making for the next meeting on Feb. 22. A number of spring hats in the latest fashions and colors will be obtained for all to try on. This ^ is a good way to buy your Easter bonnet at a very reasonable price. Everyone is welcome and you can bring guests. Through popular demand We are happy to report the L;L.C.'s are planning another dance this year. The dance committee is Pat Williams, Dolores Hanahan, Mary Ellen Wickman, Fran Fuqua, Sherri Dunford and Marlene 'Berg, committee chairman. Watch this column for further details. After the meeting Fran 01- TeT^howeS^^ had snapped at the Easter egg hunt, club swimming and Christmas party and the children's Christmas play. Most of them were unaware they were being photographed which made them especially entertaining and surprisr tag!! Coffee and cake followed. The next meeting and hat party will be at Carol Kennebeck's on Feb. 22, so please mark that date on your calendar. /Hawaiian Night There were well over three hundred people who joined the St. John's Home and School - at their Hawaiian Night dance Saturday even* ing. Among those present were the Farleys, the Von Oepens, the Volghts, the Walczynskis, the Lakowslds; the Mikkelsens, tHe Hanahans, the Wickmans, the Seipmans, the Kanters, the Noahs, the Fuquas, the Jesskis, the 01- sens, the Gersteins and the Kennebecks all from the Estates. The Johnsburg Community Club was beautifully decorated in the Hawaiian s e t t i n g e v e n t h o u g h m o s t of the decoration such as the grass hut and palm trees never arrived from Chicago, because of the blizzard. However many were dressed in costume including, one of our own residents who shed his clothing and wore a sarong for the evening. Your two reporters were not present but from the reaction of the many people we have talked to we get the feeling that all of us who did not attend sure missed a very good time. Birthday Celebrations . Despite tiie snow twelve children managed to get to the Olsen home for Erik's sixth birthday party. Among them.were Chuckie and Danny Schneider, Jimmy Willlams and Cheryl and Tim Maule. It was a grand party with lots of goodies and games. One year old Rebecca and seven year old Kimmy, whose birthdays were on the first had a family party in the evening. Kimmy had a weekend guest and then on Saturday all went to Grandma Olsen's. Sick List Little Timmy Simmons was in the hospital for a few days due to- dehydration. We are glad to say he is home now and doing fine. Michael Dunford who is almost two is in McHenry hospital also because of dehydration brought on by a cold and flu. We hope Michael will be back home and well again very soon. Bernice Fry entered St. Theresa's hospital in Waukegan, Tuesday evening. Wednesday Bernice will undergo minor surgery. We hope you will be feeling better real soon. Serviceman Home on Warrant Officer John Davis, son of Jack and Lou Davis, arrived home Jan. 20 for a short /visit before leaving for VietNam. While home he spent five days .in Minnesota, visiting the wife of a buddy who had been killed a tew weeks ago in an air crash. On his return he has spent most of his time with family and friends. John is leaving Feb. 8, for California and from there to Viet Nam. He will be joining the First Cavalry as a chopper pilot. We wish him all kinds . of luck and hope he will be coming back to his family soon. School Date Jan. 31, was a big day for seven of our youngsters. Darryl May, Chuckie Schneider, Linda Radtke, Terri Kanter, Cheryl Maule, Eddie and Deb-, bie Matuszak began their first day of kindergarten with much anticipation and enthusiasm. We hope you mothers do not feel too badly about losing the little one who has kept you company for these past five years. Repairs Boa Shelter Orchids to Jim Williams for repairing the bus shelter. Let us hope that it is used for the purpose it was put up and not for childish pranks and misuse. Birthday Salutations Happy birthday today to Dale Maule. On the eleventh Marty Palmer will be eleven along with Steve Farley who will be thirteen. David Segerstrom has his first birthday on Feb. 12. Robert McDonald will be twenty-two on Feb. 13. Richard Radtke celebrates on Valentine's day with Bill Kuechel, Jr., who will be seventeen and Camille Cina who will be one. On Feb. 15 Andy Eichhorn shares his day with Gary Wegner who will be three and Jimmy Cal ey who will be fourteen. May your birthdays be just perfect, a truly laappy day--one that fills your hearts with joy in everyway. 4-H The monthly meeting of the Johnsburg Clovers met at the Johnsburg school on Tuesday evening. Bob Walters gave a very informative talk on first aid. Some of the children gave a talk or demonstration on a project they worked on. Marty Palmer demonstrated a developer; Monica Davis gave a demonstration in Emitting; Helen Farley talked on health; and Terri Radtke reported oh dog care. All the 4-H groups in McHeniy County will participate by eaich group giving an entertaining program. The Clovers each submitted an idea for the program to be judged by three persons. Kathy Farley's idea was chosen as the best and she was presented with a small cash prize. Afterwards a game was played. Newcomers We are happy to welcorrie a new family to the Estates. John and Vernell Foley and their two children, Sunni and John, Jr., just recently moved to 4402 N. Dennis. The Foleys resided in Round Lake Beach before coming to live in our community. Johii . is a machinest in Mundelein while Vernell speeds her time being a wife and mother. When the Foleys have a little extra time they like to spend it together boating. swimming, or bowling. Most of us are just stayi ing home and trying to keep from being snowed in and just hoping that spring is right around the corner waiting for a chance to appear. Illinois continues to rank as one of the top states in the nation in the completion and opening to traffic of sections of the Interstate highway system as the program enters its twelfth year, Gov. Otto Kerner said. When paving construction work ended with the arrival of cold weather last month, Illinois had a total of 926, or 57 per cent, of its allotted 1,628 miles of Interstate highways open to traffic. PROPERTY OWNERS DISCUSS SEVERAL IMPORTANT ISSUES A small group of interested property owners attended the last meeting of the Holiday Hills Property Owner's Association, on Monday. Jan. .10. at Casey's hall. With many important issues at hand .the meeting began at 8:30 with John VanDuyn presiding. Bill Boettcher gave the treasurer's report and as chairman of the nominating committee, he reported on the slate of officers for the coming election to be held the last Sunday of this month, Feb. 26.-4 A report on a new developer in the subdivision separated rumors and fact and questions were answered to the best of the ability of the board. If we are to realize any real progress in the coming year--and we certainly need t o p r o g r e s s -- t h e n we w i l l have to bring up the number of dues paying members. This includes renters also, since it is the H.H.P.O.A. that covers all the costs on maintenance of roads in the subdivision. Without cooperation we can do very little, but with the cooperation of all of you, we can expect some help from the new developer. Were you a free loader on the road grading and snow plowing last year? Why not pay your share on the roads you use and pay your dues this yew. We still have the best location for a home in McHenry County with access to both Fox River and Griswold Lake--let's take some pride in it and help it grow to its potential. With your help, there's no end to the possibilities we have here. Woman's Club As president of the Woman's Club, Vi Abbink reported to H.H.P.O.A. that the Woman's Club has set aside money for sand at the lake beach and asked that it be ordered and placed on the beach before it was too late for summer enjoyment. YMCA AUXILIARY An organization to be known as the Lake Region YMCA WOMEN'S BOARD was organized recently at the home of Mrs. Violet Ranskers, 15 Dole Avenue, Crystal Lake. Nine women met to hear Board President Alfred Selling detail the history of the Lake Region YMCA and to tell of future plans for the 'Y'"s development. The board is created for the express purpose of giving Volunteer hours of service to the YMCA to promote and assist in all YMCA , activities. The women will begin by giving assistance during the finance campaign, which began Feb. 2 and closes March 9. Office work, record keeping, mailings, and the role of. official YMCA hostesses will be .their first project. Future projects will evolve out of growing needs and concerns for development and expansion.
