I - PLAIN DEALER - JUNE 29, 1967 June Bride K:, , • -i '- Silver Wedding Party Honors Chicago Couple A gay silver wedding anniversary party was held last Sunday afternoon at the Fourth street home of Phillip and Pat Ahlberg, honoring Phillip's father and step-mother, the Harold Ahlbergs of Chicago. The climax of the day's festivities occurred at the mock wedding ceremony, presided over by the self-appointed justice of the peace, Fred Phillips, his grandfather. The Lohengrin Wedding March was emotionally played by 11-year old Ron Ahlberg, on his slide trombone. A delicious buffet luncheon was served, followed by the cutting of a beautifully decorated wedding cake. Presents, including an elaborate "money tree," were then received and acknowledged by the "bride and groom." During the afternoon the Pipers Four strolled among the crowd, singing their romantic and nostalgic numbers. Among the seventy-five guests present there were many old friends and relatives of Mr. and Mrs. Ahlberg locally and from the Chicago area and Wisconsin, where Mrs. Ahlberg spent her childhood. JAMES COX Miss Jacqueline Lee Crouch was a pretty bride on Saturday, June 24, when she approached the altar of Zion Lutheran church, Marshall, Mich., to meet her bridegroom, Mr. William James Cox. Miss Crouch, of 528 Clinton street, Marshall, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. M.C. Crouch of 502 S. Rt. 31, McHenry, and Mr. Cox is the son of William H. Cox and Mrs. Alton Herkimer of Litchfield, Mich. The 7:30 o'clock ceremony was performed by Rev. T. Taykowski in a church decorated for the occasion with two altar vases of white glads and pomp poms. Arthur Goodwin, uncle of the bride, was soloist, singing "The Lord's Prayer". The bride chose a sleeveless, floor length satin dress with jacket, featuring embroidered lace around the edge. A cathedral train was also accented by the same lace. A short fingertip veil attached with clusters of pearls and lace made iq> her headpiece and she carried a bouquet of orchids with starburst pomp poms and stephanotis, -( Attending her were Susan Lynn f Crouch of McHenry as maid, of honor and Mrs. Charles Phelps, Jr., of Litchfield, Mich., Miss Lynn WestofMarshajl, Mich., and Miss Kathy Powers of McHenry as bridesmaids. All were attired similarly in floor length, sleeveless, yellor/ : satin dresses with chiffon overlay, styled with streamers Calling from the shoulders and tied in bade. Their headpieces consisted of two roses with tiny pearls and netting for the veil. They carried cascade bouquets of star burst pomps and yellow roses, with a candle set in the middle of each. U»e two flower girls, Patti Goodwin, cousin of the bride, and Connie Shephard, niece of the groom, wore dresses identical to those of the older attendants and carried small colonial bouquets of yellow roses and white carnations. For her daughter's wedding, Mrs. Crouch selected a gold, three-piece suit with gold accessories. Mrs. Herkimer chose a turquoise dress with lace overlay coat and matching accessories. Both had cymbidium orchid corsages. A reception followed for 200 guests in the church parlor, after which the couple left on a trip to Sault St. Marie, Mich. The couple will make their home at 528 Clinton street until September, when they will reside in Big Rapids, Mich. The bride is an M.C.HJS. graduate, class of 1964, and has been employed at State Farm in Marshall since that time. Her husband is a graduate of Litchfield high school and has completed two years of college at Kellogg Community college, Battle Creek. He will attend Ferris State in the fall for his degree in pharmacy. The rehearsal dinner was held Friday in Marshall. Showers prior to the wedding were given by Georgia Fleming, Miss Lynn West, Miss Eileen Connelly, Mrs. Charles Phelps, Mrs. Charles Shephard, Mrs. Shirley Goodwin, Mrs. O. Fick, Mrs. Toqy Park and Mrs. Dorothy Cronin. FLOWER-GARDEN SHOW One of the fine flower and garden shows held in Illinois each year is the event in Dixon, scheduled to take place Sunday, July 2, from 3 to 9 pjn., and July 3 and 4 from 1 to 9 p.m. It will be held at 84 Peoria Avenue. CP Mai ley of 2405 N. Club road, McHenry, and Mr. Dennis Gene Pogose, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gene Pogose of Rt. 1, Antioch. Rev. Dorofficiated at the 3 o" clock nuptial rite on June 17. Darlene O'Malley of Chicago acted as matron of honor for her sister-in-law and flower girls were Kathleen and Christine O'Malley of Chicago, her nieces. Peter Lishamer of Antioch served the groom as best man and ushers were Terrance O'Malley, brother of the bride and Ronnie Pogose, the groom's brother. It was styled with short sleeves and scoop neckline, designed with detachable chapel length train trimmed with alencon lace. Her headpiece was a two-tier crown of seed pearls, with four bouffant tiers of fingertip veiling falling from it. Miss Messamore carried a cascade bouquet consisting of white roses and carnations. Attending her were Mrs. Nancy Leathers of Fox River Grove, her sister-in-law, as matron of honor, and Miss Lynn Moore and Miss Doreen Moore of Wonder Lake, both cousins, as bridesmaids. They were attired similarly in yellow linen, empire fashion, floor length gowns, fashioned with short sleeves, matching yellow lace at the bodice and bow in back, with streamers. Their headpieces were yellow linen bows trimmed in matching lace and veiling. All carried colonial bouquets of white carnations, with yellow ribbon and loops woven through them. Ronald Leathers of Fox River Grove, brother of the bride, served as best man. Groomsmen were Gary Larson of Wonder Lake and Douglas Miller of McHenry, the groom's cousins. Mrs. Messamore selected a shantung dress in pink silk, with matching jacket and accessories. Her corsage was of white carnations tipped in pink. Mrs. Johnson wore a threepiece, champagne colored suit with green accessories and a corsage of white carnations tipped in green. A reception for 140 guests followed at the Legion home. After a wedding trip to Pheasant Run, St. Charles, the newlyweds will reside in Woodstock. The new Mrs. Gustafson is a 1965 graduate of McHenry high school and attended Elgin Community college in 1966. She is employed as a legal secretary. Her husband, a 1960 graduate of Woodstock high school, has completed three and a half Wives of Mets Become Models For Charity Royalty, fashions, wine cookery, music and a modeling team composed of sixteen wives of Met baseball players were inthe starting lineup inthe third annual Food and Fashion show luncheon held last week in the Diamond club of Shea Stadium. Oyer 450 people bought tickets for the event, sponsored annually for the benefit of the Doctors' Wives* auxiliary of Flushing Hospital and Medical center. Proceeds will be applied to the purchase of equipment for indigent patients. -The "Bench Warmers," the Mets' wives' organization, were on deck as fashion plates to model the creations. The Mmes. Berra, Grote, Hiller, Jones, Kranepool, Luplow, Reynolds, Seaver and eight other Mets' wives came out of the fashion dugout to score for the hospital charity. Mrs. Hiller and her husband, Chuck, are McHenry residents. Tour Of Home Will Benefit School Group St. John's Home and School association is sponsoring tours of the Waterfall House in Dutch Creek Woodlands, Johnsburg, July 1 from noon to 5 p.m. and July 2 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. This unique home on the Fox river includes indoor waterfalls, a bar in a hand hewn rock cave and a tropical rain forest room among its many unusual feature. It has been seen in newspapers, magazines, and on television. Proceeds will go to the association for funds which will be needed when St. John's and Johnsburg public school begin a dual enrollment program this fall. Walter Infant Is Christened of Mr. Walter Ann in The infant daughter and Mrs. Harold E. was christened Dabra a baptismal service which took place at Zion Lutheran church during the 10:30 a.m. Sunday service, with Pastor William Baumann of Rockford officiating. Sponsors for the baby were Mr. and Mrs. Walter Deterding of Morton, 111., friends of the family and former local residents. A buffet dinner was served to the maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Eshoo, and maternal great-grandmother, Mrs. Anna Garr, all of Chicago, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Deterding and children, Mark, Roger, and Rita, and also the baby's sister, Linda, and brother, David. ROBERT JEPSON Sacred Heart church in East Chicago, Ind., was the setting for the wedding on Saturday, June 24, of Miss Jocelyn Mae Kissela, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph G. Kissela, and James Robert Jepson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold L. Jepson of 4621 Ringwood road, Ringwood, and a former resident of Dundee and Ringwood. In the double ring ceremony read by Rev. Joseph Semancik, the bride was escorted and given in marriage by her father. Pretty Miss Kissela wore a floor length, linen shantung dress and coat of Venice lace with short sleeves and a chapel train. Mrs. Gregory Kissela of Hobart, Ind., acted as her matron of honor and other attendants were Mrs. David Lamb of Barrington, sister of the groom, Mrs. Harold Jepson, Jr., of Freeport, Ida jean Windell of Hammond, Ind. and Teresa Matusek of Hammond, cousin of the bride. Robert Duncin of Naperville served as best man and groomsmen were Harold Jepson, Jr., brother of the groom, David Lamb, Gregory Kissela and Joseph Kissela of East Chicago, bid., both brothers of the bride. Following a reception atTeibel's in Shererville, Ind., the couple left for a three-week honeymoon through the New England states. Y Hie bride received her B.S. degree from St. Joseph college, East Chicago, Ind., and her M. S. in special education at Indiana university, Bloomington. The bridegroom received his B.S. degree from Knox college, Galesburg, and Master's in business administration from Indiana university. He is affiliated with Phi Gamma Delta. RAYMOND GAYLORD Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Gaylord of 1032 Qusen Ann street, Woodstock, will observe their silver wedding anniversary on Saturday evening, July 1, when they entertain 175 relatives and invited guests at the Woodstock Moose lodge at 6:30 p.m. Mrs. Gaylord is the former Jeanette Kennebeck of Johnsburg. The Gaylords were married June 22, 1942, in Woodstock. The couple has two sons, Donald of Elgin and Richard of Woodstock; also a granddaughter, Tracey Marie, 2 years old.
