MCCULLOM LAKE NEWS EVE LEVESQUE 385-4141 YOUNG LADS RECEIVE SOFT BALL UNIFORMS An excited group of young boys, 8 through 12 years, lined up last Saturday morning at the beach to receive their cherished uniforms. It was the moment they had anticipated ^since they first joined the organization.. No doubt, it will inspire their playing. The Little League group received a dohation from the American Legion, Post 491, unsolicited. Officers of the club were delighted and ,most appreciative of the gift. A uniform donation was made by George Luto after the list was published last week. Through the cooperation of J.R. Levesque, funds were raised to buy twenty-seven complete uniforms for the McCullom Lake Little Leaguers. ROAD OPENED FOR THROUGH TRAFFIC Access to McHenry was gained for residents of the village and others who use the McCullom Lake blacktop, by Wednesday night, a week ago. Three massive culverts have been installed under the road, on the east side of the railroad tracks. Everyone is asking the question "Why?" A similar plan was scheduled for the west side of the crossing, but has been put off, for the present. According to reports, blacktopping of the main thoroughfare, was to be done, after the July 4 holiday. MEETINGS WILL BE REPORTED NEXT WEEK The Cullom-Knoll association met last Sunday afternoon at 3 in the beachhouse, but because of the early deadline for the holiday, we are unable to make a report in this column. The same holds true for the village board meeting, held Monday, July 3. Hereafter, the board will meet on the first and third Wednesdays of the month, starting with July 19. WHERE "GIRL WATCHING" IS THE BEST! If you are male, free and over 21, and looking for some ..excitement, Montreal, Canada ; and, specifically Expo '67, is the "where the action is." So relates handsome young men, Jack DeMar and John Boyle, Jr. The two returned a week ago Monday afternoon, after spending six delightful days in the north. According to their extensive survey, girl watching is best in Canada, because the young ladies are every bit as provacative as their London counterparts. Jack, who is recently out of the service, and John, on vacation from his studies at Cardinal Stritch Medical School, left our shores on the previous Tuesday morning and arrived at their destination the next afternoon. John most enjoyed the French Pavillion because of the unique architecture of the building while Jack's choice was the German exposition. They both agreed they "lucked out" on lodging facilities and their expenses during the two days at Expo, were nominal. A spank- In* new subway, free L, and a monorail for pay, provides excellent transportation. The young fellas motored to North Bay, Ont., for about 24 hours of fishing. They spent a fortune on ice to preserve their catch of northerns. A few hours sightseeing on Mackinac Island, wrapped up a truly great time for the two of them. Warm welcomes were extended by parents, Lorraine and John Boyle and Barbara and Joe DeMar. RUBY RED VELVET FOR NUPTIAL THEME Nothing but wedding plans dominates the conversation at the home of Theresa and Willard Schultz with the announcement of the engagement of their daughter, Lynne. The lovely young miss became affianced to Pvt. Len Benson of Woodstock. His grandmother is Mrs. Schurring of Huntley. The two plan to marry around the Christmas holidays and then the newlyweds will return to Hawaii where Len is stationed. He is quartered at Schoffield Barracks in the Islands. Other details appear on the society page of the Plalndealer. Lynne plans for her attendants to wear ruby red velvet for the big occasion. LOSS OF THREE RELATIVES IN TWO MONTHS Jack Patzke recently returned from a hasty trip to Edgely, N.D., to attend the funeral of his mother's brother. Mrs. Frances Patzke of McHenry accompanied her son on the flight, and remained behind to assist the family. Jack's cousin and family -- Mr. and Mrs. Darwin Cousle of N. D., arrived last Thursday for a short visit with the Patzkes. This was the third funeral of a close relative for Jack in the last two months. SINCERE APOLOGIES To Elaine and Bill for misspelling their name last week. A thousand pardons. Speaking of that tribe, have you heard that Bill is a pianist of the highest caliber? Hie only trouble is he is shy! Needs to be coaxed. Even when Ken Betts and another ball player moved Pillars' pianopractically into his lap, he couldn't quite make it. It was requested that he accompany his lovely cousin Nancy Johnson with the voice. Better luck, next time! WESTERN FLIGHT FOR THREE CHUMS Two cousins, Mrs. Nancy Burg Lucarz and Mrs. Linda Kane Skroba of Chicago, accompanied by Miss Joanne Reid, left O'Hare airport last Friday night for a flight to Van Nuys, Calif. The cousins both have husbands in the service. Nancy's husband, John, is stationed in Viet Nam and due home Augv 20 for discharge. Pvt. Tom Skroba is stationed in the south. The young gals are visiting the cousins' aunt, Mrs. Evelyn Burg, in Van Nuys. THE WELCOME MAT IS SPREAD For Mr. and Mrs. Jack De- George who now reside at 2813 Beachview in the village. Their family includes Danny, almost 5, John, Jr. nearly four and the baby, Robert 4 months. Jack works for an airline and signed up to play Softball with the Forum Fits. His wife is happily meeting the young married women in her neighborhood. They are a welcome addition to the community. ATTEND BOY SCOUT CAMP IN MICH. Three of our young lads left recently for a week's vacation at a Bay Scout camp in Michigan. They were part of a group of Woodstock Scouts who had signed up for the trip. The three are Clayton Patzke, Kenny Betts and Terry Brendle. During their happy week, they indulged in plenty of boating, swimming, and qualifying for merit badges. CALIFORNIA HIATUS FORLU Mrs. Lucille Pillar has been enjoying a much needed rest in California for a total of three weeks. A resume of her journey will appear upon her return. In her absence, husband Clyde, Bill, and the Ken Betts family have been "minding the store." NATAL "DAZE'* Belated birthday greetings (17) to Bill Smith, as of June 28. Cmstis Bureau Checks Consumer- Buying In Area Households in this area will be asked early in July about major expenditures they have made recently for cars, TV's, other major appliances, and about their future buying plans for these items. In addition, home owners visited in the survey will be asked about expenditures on home improvement and upkeep during April, May and June. These questions are asked nation-wide each quarter as part of the Census Bureau's Quarterly Household Survey, Director Theodore F. Olson of the Bureau's Regional Office in Chicago announced today. Answers to the survey questions will provide guidelines to activity in certain important areas of the economy. For example, answers to this survey from earlier quarters indicate that, of the estimated 58 milion households in the United States, 79 percent own at least one automobile, while 25 percent own two or more; 93 percent of the households own at least one television set, but only about 12 percent own a dishwasher. The survey also indicates that persons who own and occupy their home spend an average of $220 per year for maintenance repairs and improvements to their property. The identity of households included in the survey will be kept completely confidential, and the information obtained will be used only for statistical purposes. Census Bureau representatives will visit households here during July 1-10. SHOP IN McHENRY 1 Q: velIme MOOdGARD LATEX K&HJSE PAINT • Need* no primer for most repaint jobs.
